Another phenomenal shave this morning! Returned to Ariana & Evans and their excellent "Limoncello" shave soap. Wonderful boozy, lemon scent with incredible lather built with the Rich Yuengel synth for three passes with the '56 "Gold Tip" and I finished with alum, Quinn's "Pink Grapefruit and Orange Rind" witch hazel, Myrsol "Agua de Limón" aftershave lotion, Pecksniff's "Grapefruit and Citron" talc and Muelhens "4711" EdC.

Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.

Closing out the workweek with a full concert from British Prog Metal band, Threshold. Hope you enjoy.


A fantastic shave with which to close out the workweek! I had two different shaves prepped but couldn't decide on which one to go with so I just flipped a coin and ETHOS "Campari" won out. What an incredible scent! BIG citrus burst off the jump with more of the florals shining through this time around. Wonderfully thick and slick lather built with the Paladin brush for three passes with the '56 "Gold Tip" and I finished with alum, Quinn's "Pink Grapefruit and Orange Rind" witch hazel, the matching skin food splash, Pecksniff's "Grapefruit and Citron" talc and Dior "Eau Sauvage" EdT. Will use the setup that lost out today for tomorrow's shave.

It's "Synthwave Saturday" so here's an album from English SynthWave/soundtrack artist, Kalax. Hope you enjoy.


Late post but a great shave to start the day. Today's shave was the one that lost the coin toss yesterday. Returned to Stirling Soap Co. and their excellent Floid Blue homage, "Cool Blue". Fantastic scent with a big dose of cooling menthol which was perfect on a hot and muggy day in the south east. Incredible lather built with the Paladin brush for three passes with the '56 "Gold Tip" and I finished with alum, Quinn's "Pink Grapefruit and Orange Rind" witch hazel, RazoRock "Blue Barbershop" aftershave lotion and vintage Williams Aqua Velva talc.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Sat down last night and re-watched Scorsese's period epic, Gangs of New York. Had forgotten what a great movie it was. Ridley Scott's director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is on tap for tonight.

Getting closer to "Spooky Season" so here's a dark ambient soundscape for your Sunday. Hope you enjoy.


Fantastic shave this morning! Returned to ETHOS and Frank's excellent "Blue Lotus". This single-note scent is simply incredible! Floral scent can be hit or miss with me, but this one.... "Muahhh!" Chef's kiss! A very natural scent that isn't perfumy with incredible lather built with the Wild West Brushworks for three passes with the '56 "Gold Tip" and I finished with alum, Thayers unscented witch hazel, the matching skin food splash and a dusting of Yardley "Gentleman" talc.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: A nice preview of fall is on they way this week! Can already tell the humidity is dropping!

It's "Metal Monday" so here's a couple from German rockers, the Scorpions. Hope you enjoy.



Now this is the proper way to kick off the workweek! Returned to Martin de Candre and their excellent "Original" shave soap. Fantastic traditional scent with notes of lavender, mint and rosemary along with a phenomenally thick and cushioning lather built with the Wild West Brushworks badger brush for three passes with the '56 Super Speed and I finished with alum, Thayers unscented witch hazel, Pinaud Clubman aftershave lotion & talc and Dana "Canoe" EdT.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Refreshing walking out the door this morning! Gonna have low temps in the 50's several mornings this week.

Returned to my vintage Crabtree & Evelyn For Men shave soap & splash. 80's power house scent with super slick and cushioning lather built with the Rich Yuengel synth for three passes with the '56 Super Speed and I finished with alum, Thayers unscented witch hazel, the matching aftershave lotion & Crabtree & Evelyn "Sienna" EdT.

A bonus "Women of Rock Wednesday", but on a Thursday. Saw where guitarist / composer Lari Basilio dropped a new track this morning so I'm featuring it today. Hope you enjoy.


Wow! The shaves just keep getting better and better. Returned to my vintage Yardley suite this morning. Light scent but a super slick and thick lather built with the PAA synth for three passes with the '67 Super Speed and I finished with alum, Quinn's Lavender witch hazel and the matching ASL, talc and EdC.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Up and out early to have blood work done. Another comfortable morning but the temps are gonna start rising again. Not looking at anything like we were having but closer to what it should be this time of year.

Going with a couple today from Prog Rock supergroup, O.R.k.. Hope you enjoy.



Great shave with which to close out the workweek. Sticking with the Yardley theme, today I returned to PAA and their Yardley Black Label homage, "The Watcher". Now I've never use Yardley B.L., but after reading many reviews and comments online, it seems this is, if not identical, an extremely close dupe of the original. Incredible old school, manly scent and the dry down is simply phenomenal! A super thick and slick lather built with the Simpson badger brush for three passes with the '49 Executive and I finished with alum, Thayer's Unscented witch hazel, the matching ASL, and a dusting of Clubman talc.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Picked up a juicer from Amazon and plan on using it to get more fruit / vegetable vitamins and minerals in my diet. First use was yesterday and I used an apple, carrot, celery and ginger (all organic). Tasted great! Anyone have any suggestions?

Nothing fancy about today's shave. Just great items which together provided stellar results. Love the RazoRock P.160 soap! Traditional Italian marzipan scent with super thick and slick lather built with the Paladin badger brush for three passes with the '58 Super Speed and I finished with alum, Thayer's Unscented witch hazel, Proraso "Refrescante" ASB, and a dusting of Clubman talc.

The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: Up and out early to take the wife's car in for servicing. Dropped it off and then breakfast at Metro Diner (fantastic breakfasts there), a little shopping and by that time they had her car ready. Dropped her off and I stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some fruits / veggies and then home.

A wonderful lather built with The Razor Company synth for three passes with the '58 Super Speed and I finished with alum, Quinn's Grapefruit and Orange Rind witch hazel, Clubman "Tequila Tease" after shave lotion, Pecksniff's Grapefruit and Citron talc and Creed "Virgin Island Water" EdP
