The New Year is almost upon us and it is time once again for the January 3017 project. Let's all start off 2022 with a bang by killing some soap!

The theme for this year is "something old." So, find a tub that has been sitting in the back of your den, blow the dust off of it, and get ready to use it until the tub is empty.

Here are the rules guidelines for this edition:
  1. Before January 1 choose your weapon... I mean soap.
  2. Participants are encouraged to pick up the matching aftershave, if there is one. (This is not a requirement, but bonus points to your favorite Wizarding House for 3017ing an aftershave too!)
  3. Completely unused tubs are encouraged, but not required. If you have a partial tub that you want to kill, bring it!
  4. Sign up in this thread and let us know which product you will be killing.
  5. Shave with it starting on January 1 (or whatever day your first shave of the new year is) and keep going until the tub is empty.
  6. We encourage you to keep track of soap utilization by weight and include it in your posts in this thread.
  7. Cheat days are allowed! But, in the spirit of the event try to keep them to only one a week.
  8. Keep us up to date, in this thread, on how you are progressing. This is a communal event, so let's talk about it.
  9. Remember that there is the The bottom of a tub where you can (should?) post a pic of the empty tub when you reach the finish line.
  10. Bonus points to your favorite Wizarding House for finishing your product of choice before the end of January (so that you can participate in the February Williams 3017 challenge hosted by @Spider).

I have wanted to clear a mug for a new puck for a while. Seems this is a great motivator. I will talk more of the reasoning for my selection in later posts.

Alrighty, let me explain my choice. I have a puck of Shulton Old Spice soap that is honestly the worst I have ever had. For whatever reason it just does not produce the thick creamy lathers that other pucks past, or even pucks I currently own create. I have had this in my line up for a while and just keep avoiding it as it is typically disappointing. I also cannot bring myself to simply ditch it. So instead I will 3017 this in a hope to unlock the secrets of this puck, and perhaps make it enjoyable. Either that or just power through this vintage beast.

Ok I've been wanting to knock this one out for a while but keep getting distracted. It's pretty dished but still looks to have quite a bit of soap left. It has lost pretty much all its scent and just smells like soap at this point so I think it's time.

Day 1: Didnt soak overnight as I feel asleep and forgot, but bloomed it for 2 hours this morning before my shave. Things were a touch better. I am hoping regular use will get through some layers of soap and hydrate it over time.
 
Here’s my start. Valobra Menthol. Been chilling in this anchor hocking dish for probably 7-8 years, getting used 1-2 times a year. Even thought I don’t have much to shave right now, I’m going to load heavy and power through to hopefully make this disappear fast!
