Nice shave Chris! The retreat sounds fun.

I can’t believe the the People for the Ethical Treatment of Trap Skeet haven’t boycotted yet.

Open Blade Shave #190:

So, obviously, today was the first use of Stirling Sharp Dressed Man. The cooldown scent is decent, I think I could grow to like it, but I don’t think at this time I would go out and buy it. Fine Platinum or AB for instance, I knew as soon as I applied it that it would be a purchase/eventual purchase, this one not so much. Thank goodness for 3rd party vendors who actually want people to know what they’re smelling, because Stirling’s descriptions did not help. I definitely get that it could be scented after something named Green Irish Tweed, though I’ve not smelled the original. It does indeed, strangely enough, smell like a tweed suit. I expected more green-ness out of it though. The forward scent on application is an ultra sharp talc-like scent but not as powdery; it was on the verge of unpleasant for me. After the cooldown, it is nicer, but still talc-something forward, hint of wood and green. Green Irish Tweed scents seem to be very popular, maybe moreso than Aventus, but if it’s anything like this, I think I’ll ultimately pass.

Chris, for "green" AS, look into Irisch Moos and WSP Gaelic Tweed. Both are high quality, and smell great.

Agreed. I really like the Gaelic Tweed. I was wondering how close SDM was, but I’ll hold what I’ve got.

Open Blade Shave #191:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (5), RR Game Changer, Personna Super blade (14), RR Big Bruce synth, SS Citrus & Bay soap, Alum block, generic witch hazel, Superior 70 Bay Rum AS, and Master Bay Rum AS to finish.

Just a quick entry today before I head out to the retreat.

Nice 3 passes, no damage this time around. I was just craving more bay rum goodness today though! I have used the same soap in a week since my TOBS 3018 I think.

First use of both the Superior 70 and Master Bay Rums. I started with the Superior. Really awesome face feel and easy application. Very nice, natural smelling bay rum, feels like top quality juice; my one complaint might be that the scent is pretty mellow. So, I chose to kick it up a bit with the Master. This one actually has a stronger scent, it mixed perfectly with the Superior for just the right, medium level of bay rum goodness. The Master is in its plastic bottle still, so it had a touch of plastic taint on application, but that quickly dissipated. These two will make great mixers, especially the Superior. Overall though, for bay rum scent, Pinaud VIBR wins hands down.

All packed up for the weekend. Taking my Feather, the RR Baby Smooth, fresh Voskhod loaded, La Toja stick, Alum, Fine Platinum, and giving my dad’s synth an on-the-road test. It just reminded me though, I do need to pick up a little Bruce for travel still.

The insulation work ended up being a no go today. We have to reschedule to a different day after they found what they said was “extensive” knob and tube still up in the attic. That has to be taken care of first or certified as not operational before they can come back. When we bought the house, the inspector said the knob and tub looked minimal and not live, but we had no official documentation. Kinda sucks, that fix likely won’t be any time soon and we need a good 5 inches of insulation blown up there the worker said.

Oh well, not going to let it put my weekend off to a bad start!

I’ll be on and off (mostly off), so you all have a great weekend!

Superior 70 and Master's Bay Rum...you might as well added the VIBR to make you some Bootleger's Bay Rum!

By golly, it’ll be a heck of a large decant, but I just might!

Nice shave Chris and have a good retreat. Knob and tube is nasty stuff !!

Thanks Dave! Yes, I’m hoping it all actually is unconnected...I’d hate to have been fooled on something like that!

You absolutely must mix up some bootleggers. You’ll never need another bay Rum after trying that!

Bootleggers is outstanding! I've got a bottle of Superior 70 that I added a few things to as well. Some orange peel, a little black pepper, and some Madagascar vanilla beans. Let it sit for about a year, and it came out pretty amazing.

A year? That’s some major restraint and pre-planning!
