Shave #320 (477 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Feather AC folding SS, Feather Pro blade, Gillette NEW LC, Astra SS blade, Stirling 2-band synth brush, CBL Steel Grey Fougere soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Speick AS, and ADG Profumo to finish!

All right! My large set of decants finally came in…time to get down to testing a few new frags! On these days, I like to keep the shave set relatively neutral or subdued in scent profile so that I can really get a good feel for the frag. So the star of today’s shave was Acqua Di Gio Profumo, stated as a staple of the ADG line since the reformulation of their namesake frag. It opens up a bit perfumey but that is only temporary. What has really come out to play so far is a hint of sea, the bergamot, a touch of rosemary, the geranium, all underplayed by a base of patchouli. It comes off as a slightly dark scent that’s punctuated by almost a fruity playfulness of the florals. It’s not totally dried down yet though, I’m hoping some of that incense come out to play. So far a decent anytime masculine frag, not mind blowing, but solid; probably not worth the purchase price unless you can find it on sale. This is only a first sniff review mind you. I’ve still got 15ish ml of this decant to get through. I expect it to grow on me as most frags do with regular use.

Have a great Tuesday all!

Shave #321 (478 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Feather AC folding SS, Feather Pro blade, Gillette NEW LC, Astra SS blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme to finish!

Up a bit closer to normal time today. The missus has an online class and I’ve got to get into the office for an IDT meeting.

Another new frag today. Proraso Red is innocent enough that it doesn’t mess with frags a whole lot. Even the AS pretty much stays a nice skin scent about 5 minutes after you apply.

Today’s frag was L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme. This may have been a slight mistake in my trade, it was supposed to be the intense I think but I don’t think that’s what I ended up with, I’m just going to roll with it though. This one is a little rough. The initial spray is a blast of yuzu and dirty citruses…then very quickly an animalic/musky/light leather comes out. One might mistake it for some animal stank or funky BO, something definitely masculine and polarizing. It rides a very fine line. Still in dry down right now, so we’ll see where it lands. It smells nicer a few inches away from the skin vs my nose mashed up on it.

Yesterday’s Profumo ended up being fairly nice. My few sprays lasted the whole work day and fairly very pleasant and unobtrusive.

Chris, it's good to see you making the best of a bad situation with the L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme.

It could be worse. You could have gotten stuck with Clubman in the trade.

Funnily enough…I have both Clubman and The Veg sitting in my den drawer, untouched for the last year. I should just dump em lol.

The only Clubmans that’ve seen action at all are Vanilla and then some VIBR that’s in a Bootleggers BR mix up.

Shave #322 (479 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Feather AC folding SS, Feather Pro blade, Gillette NEW LC, Astra SS blade, Yaqi Moka synth brush, CBL Cherry Blossom & Bamboo soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Fine L’Orange Noir AS, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Terre d’Hermes EDP to finish!

Chill morning for the most part. Got to sleep in, then did a quick search for a local coffee shop to pop on over to for a morning cup. Dart was open thankfully. Had a “Tres Leches” which includes an espresso shot. Gathered up a couple last minute ingredient items at the store then it was back home to clean up for some company.

At a decent break in activity, I was able to get away for an absolutely amazing shave. Same razors as I’ve been using all week so far, but the planets aligned extra on point today. Took no chances on scent profiles and went straight for some top notch products. Thanksgiving deserves something warm, darker, and almost gourmand so I selected CBL Cherry Blossom & Bamboo in the original artisan base, found a little bit of a Fine L’Orange Noir AS sample I had squirreled away to mix into some LNHC post shave elixir, and topped it off with that dirty orange favorite I’ve still yet to get a bottle of - Terre D’Hermes EDP! Perfect on all counts!

Thanksgiving meal is cookin away and guests arrive in a few hours. It’s been a pretty darn good day so far!

Happy Thanksgiving all!
