Shave #287 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: RR .68 GC OC, Astra SS blade, Stirling 2-band synth brush, CBL Steel Grey Fougere soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, LNHC Barber Shoppe post shave elixir, and Czech & Speake Frankincense & Myrrh to finish!

Not a bad nights rest! And a great great shave upon waking up to boot! The scent pallet of the shave was moderately neutral to make way for the star of the day…the frag! Really love this Czech & Speake Frankincense & Myrrh scent…absolute powerhouse of woody incense. A spray or two will cover ya for the whole day just about. So good!

The truck stereo deck is now upgraded! Nothing fancy, but I can either plug in by USB or connect via Bluetooth. Now I can have NPR and my eclectic mix of iTunes songs too!

Later tonight the missus and I are attending the local Young Life fundraising dinner. Our first time going. Should be nice to see!

Have a great Thursday all!

Shave #288 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: RR .68 GC OC, Astra SS blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, Proraso Red soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Proraso Red AS, and Bottega Veneta Illusione to finish!

A little groggy this morning. A great shave though to waken up some! The star of today’s shave was one of my new sample frags - Bottega Veneta Illusione. Really nice, bright lemony opening…then sneaks in a mild, mellow cedar wood with a hint of powdery musk. Not a nose blaster by any means, feels quite subtle and unassuming. Very nice though.

Glad it’s Friday. This week has had some highs and lows in terms of work. Some really positive moments and some really tough moments where it sucks to be an optional part of care when you can see people need something. The yin and the yang.

Some family will be coming in today to help celebrate my eldest son’s birthday. It was one of his wishes to be able to have a “normal” celebration with the extended family but distance and the number of trips we’ve already done make that difficult. So some family decided to travel to us instead for the special day and to soak up some Santa Barbara rays. It’ll be nice!

Happy Friday all!

Shave #289 (459 Open Blade Shaves) of 2021:

Gear: Colonial “Armored” General, Feather Pro blade, Yaqi Rainbow w/ pony synth brush, Moon Soaps Amaretto soap, homemade witch hazel/aloe mix, Skin Bracer AS, and Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male to finish!

Saturday! Woohoo! Last night, family arrived and surprised the eldest, who was very happy to see them. After hanging out and catching up, we went out to walk downtown a bit and ate dinner at the ramen house.

Didn’t get to sleep in much this morning unfortunately, just woke up naturally about 7:15 and lazed around for a bit. Before getting a jump on the day.

Today will be some breakfast at home, out for coffee for the adults, more downtown/ocean-side walking, then lunch and mini golf. The rest of the day…who knows 🤷‍♂️

Great shave this morning though. For a classic Italian soap, Cella hits all the marks…but in today’s lineup of available products, Moon Soaps Amaretto blows Cella to smithereens. It’s (I believe) locally sourced tallow base takes some getting used to but it levels beyond Cella’s classic formulation. And the scent is amazingly, mind blowingly almond/marzipan!

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male I have been long curious about, so happy to have a sampling to try. The opening is fairly unique with a bit of a musky, minty, vanilla. At its current stage of dry down though the earthy vanilla dominates with a little underlying woodiness to smooth it out. Not bad! At the moment I prefer Bottega Veneta Illusione more, a decent scent that lasted all day.

Have a great Saturday all!

Sounds like a great evening - Ramen rocks (Of course family does too)!

Also a sweet rock band!

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male
One of my favs!

Enjoy your weekend- especially mini golf!

If you ever spring for a full bottle, even a mini bottle, this is your warning. 🤢

Otherwise, it’s a decent “fougeriental” that I would wear again after sampling about a year ago. 👍

Yea I don’t think it would be a purchase for me but it was nice to try. I don’t even get oriental out of it really…it’s mostly mellow powder and vanilla to my nose about 10 minutes after spray.
