....Marianne’s Ice Cream....

Ice cream was all I needed to hear.

Great stuff Chris. Sorry I was so behind. Really enjoyed the read. And happy to back on track.

Open Blade Shave #150:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (8), RR Game Changer, Astra SP blade (8), RV Egg Tuxedo synth, SS Citrus & Bay, with homemade Brut AS decant to close!

Did my shave video today, so I’ll make this quick.

Really solid shave, 90%+ BBS with the only DFS spot being under the chin. Only one little nick on the upper lip area despite the distraction of the camera.

Solid post shave feel from the Sudsy. The scent has really grown on me despite it being out of my normal wheelhouse.

Have to work on a teaching for this weekend today; I started it before leaving for vacation, but hoping to knock a good chunk of work out on it today. Otherwise today is the tail end of my 8 days off, going to make the most of it!

Video will be posted soon.

Happy Monday folks!

Nice shave video! Your lather for the first pass looked pretty dry to me. I think you'd be surprised at how much better the lather would get with a bit more water in it.

You look very comfortable wielding that open blade, though, for sure. Nice.

Thanks for watching Randall.

Yes, the first pass lather could have used more water, it was a bit dry but mostly because it was a bit thick; I was stuck because I had loaded a bit too much and soap was starting to fling a bit. The successive passes were much better after working in the water from my between-passes rinsing.

Open blade shave #151:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Pro blade (9), RR Game Changer, Astra SP blade (9), RV Egg w/ Tuxedo knot, Proraso Red soap, and Proraso Red AS to close!

Great shave this morning, luxuriating in the scent of the Red.

Typical 3 pass shave today, 2 Feather and 1 GC. The Feather Pro blade is at its most comfortable right now. Today I could barely feel the edge during the passes, but reduction was decent.

Overall at least 95%+ BBS with just a tad of irritation on the corners of the upper lip, that is rapidly fading.

I’ve noted today that in the last 50ish shaves, I’ve made no significant advances in open blade technique. Rather I’ve begun settling in to a general pass routine and begun just refining my movements and finding what’s comfortable within that.

As overall shave stands between my DE shaves and SR shaves, DE remains the overall closest with normally a 10ish hour BBS in almost all areas; conversely my SR shaves can give me mostly BBS, lasting over 15 hours on the cheeks in many cases but usually less than 8 on the upper lip, jaw, and chin.

I’m not sure at this point if I want to take the time to figure out that last percentage to have my SR shaves totally on par or surpass my DE shaves. I may be just comfortable enough with what I’ve achieved at this point. Who knows!

In other things, I’m back to work today. It’s kind of a bummer, but I feel ready to tackle it after that nice vacation.

Still working on my teaching for Bible study on Sunday. It’s been slow going because this time around the topic has been a collection of sermons in a book. So basically instead of being able to run off on my own steam with a passage, it feels more like I’m just regurgitating and restating. Still, the material is good otherwise!

Happy Tuesday all!

The day back to work after vacation is always hard. Good luck on the bible study!

I'm teaching this Sunday, too, but I get a coherent text: 1 Kings 17, 18, and 19.

Good luck. I hope it goes well.

Thanks Randall!

The book chapter is based around the text of Matthew 9:35-10:1.

My normal thing is to just start writing based off the text, then look up external sources later; but since it’s a book folks may be following along with, I felt I couldn’t quite do that for some reason. It’ll happen though, lol!

Shave #152:

Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (10), RR Game Changer, Astra SP blade (10), RV Egg w/ Tuxedo knot, Wickham Club Cola soap, and RR The Stallion to finish!

Good shave today.

Once again I overloaded the Egg and was slopping lather a bit. The lighter color tips/hairs on some of these brushes in combination with the smaller knots make loading a bit of a guessing game at the moment. Better too much than too little though!

No nicks or cuts today; only DFS in a couple spots that I didn’t chase, otherwise a very passable BBS.

The Wickham performed admirably and the scent was agreeable today, where as normally it is not high on the list in the scents I have in the den. Still there is something about vegan soaps that comes up a tad lacking vs tallow soaps. If I didn’t know better, it would still be a fine shave.

Weather is hanging around mid to upper 90s this week, combined with the CA fires, I’m surprised that I’m not having some allergy troubles. Thankfully I’m not, for now.

I get to close up shop at work a bit early today, so I’m happy about that!

Have a great Wednesday all!
