The catch up section:
Open blade shaves #144-148:
Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (1-6), Gillette Slim (setting 2), Astra SP blade (1-6), AOS Genuine Badger, La Toja travel stick, and Fine Platinum to finish.
Sorry for the long absence!
The family and I spent a week and our church’s annual All Church Conference. Basically, it’s a full vacation with some scriptural teaching and discussion in the mornings; the rest of the day there are planned activities you can take part in or you can adventure off on your own. The kids have their own programs going on as well.
It gets held in Scott’s Valley, CA which is about 15 minutes away from Santa Cruz, CA and the ocean!
Overall (there were the normal bumps and lumps here and there), it was a great, relaxing week with the whole family. Didn’t have to worry about a thing. We had a ton of fun (Boardwalk, beach, organized games, swimming, Marianne’s Ice Cream, Pizza My Heart, shop’s, etc.) and sun, but not a day over the mid 80s without a nice cool sea breeze.
The shaves were great as well. I woke up early every morning just to fit them in before getting everyone else up and ready for breakfast and the day.
Every day except Saturday was my standard 3 pass - 2 Feather and 1 Slim. All the gear worked phenomenally, though the brush remained a tad scrubby all week, but I got used to it. La Toja is simply and amazing travel stick, easy to use and providing a very pleasing lather. On top of that, being able to marinate all day in Platinum...oh man, what a great AS! I achieved full BBS every day with ease thanks to the Slim.
Saturday pretty much the same thing, except we had to pack up the car. I knew the Slim wouldn’t have the chance to dry completely, so I did a full 3 pass with the Feather instead. I took my time and did it right; I was rewarded with a great 90%+ BBS.
If anything negative happened over vacation, it certainly wasn't the shaves!
Today’s shave:
Open blade shave #149:
Gear: Feather AC SS, Feather Pro blade (7), RR Game Changer, Astra SP blade (7), RV Shavemac D01 Silvertip, GD Absinthe & Leather, and CC Venture to finish.
This morning is church and the first day of getting back into a soap rotation. I also decided to give the RV Shavemac another outing.
Today was perhaps my best result with it. I loaded heavily for about 30 seconds. With the Big Bruce I’d have had oodles of lather with a load like that, yet with the Shavemac I had just enough to do 3 passes, even still that final re-lathering was still a bit iffy.
Besides needing to continue to work with the Shavemac some more, the only other thing that was a bit of a downer was the final realization that Venture seems to have changed formula from the testing phase. The scent seems much more light and even less lasting than either the initial test formula or the first refinement version. It kinda stinks because the scent is truly great otherwise!
A solid BBS shave overall though!
Glad to be back home and getting back into the groove.
