If you have to do something...

Sounds like you’ve got the Henson pretty much mastered!

We took down our Christmas decorations at work yesterday. I’m dreading doing the house though...the one downside of going full Griswold is the tear down!
Yea it’s a fairly intuitive razor...probably an easy transition for someone from carts.

There should be a year-round display that morphs for various different celebrations. No take down then!

That's an idea!

Get some outdoor lights that have adjustable colors... Red and green for Christmas... Blue and white for Hanukkah... Orange, red and yellow for Thanksgiving... Red and pink for Valentine's day... Orange, Green, and Purple for Halloween... Various Greens for St Patrick's day... The list could go on and on.

Do they even make that? They should!

Cold be someone’s million dollar idea! Just remember me when you make it big!

I had alarm issues today as well. I kinda half way woke up when my first alarm went off. I then hit snooze until my second alarm went off.

I’ve always been afraid to set a snooze alarm. Gotta get up and get going on the first one!

Tonight is 1/3 of bottle #6 - Oban 14 year West Highland Single Malt Scotch

Tonight’s sample is going to be taken neat. Tonight, before the taste, I had a dinner of a Greek Chicken with potatoes, artichoke hearts, and olives (salty and savory).

I remember Dave posting a whole back about bringing in a bottle of Oban but I’ve never tried it. It’s got a decent age date though, so let’s see!

First, a few sniffs after the dram is poured I’m definitely getting citrus of orange and a very high, dry note above the alcohol. A couple descriptions list a hay note. I don’t get the actual smell of hay (thank goodness) but the dry smell of a room full of hay I do get - the dryness that seems to steal moisture from the air. I caught the hint of clove mentioned after reading about it.

So what does Oban 14 taste like? Phew...that’s a complicated flavor! I think I went through at least three distinct levels of taste in seconds. There’s a good amount of fire to the whole sip (but a developed one, not one you’d get from a scotch being “young”). The first stage is very brief, almost gone as soon as you taste it. It’s strangely sweet and spiced. The second lingers a second or two longer. A walloping punch of general scotch flavor, spiced up. The final stage is dry, smoky, woody, and a medium char. There’s a slightly olive aftertaste 20-30 second after the sip.

Oban has quite a lot of depth to the sip! It’s probably the most complicated whiskey I’ve tried so far. I don’t think I’d buy a bottle (it’s way out of my price range anyway). It would be a fun once-in-a-while sipper though!

Corona Virus Official Day 297:

Back to normal Wednesday morning dad duties, now that the kids are back in classes. So I was up a bit early to get them going.

Really nice shower n shave once they were. CBL’s charcoal shampoo bar and the PDP63 soap are still doing well. I’m not noticing my scalp/skin getting too dried out as of yet, which is great!

Brought the Vector into the mix today. Shave #12 on the Proline. A little hesitation around the chin stubble and corners of the mouth but still very much an excellent shave! I’m probably tempting fate with the Proline at this point but I’m determined to get a feel for how it really holds out.

Finished off by spritzing the very last dregs of my TDH sample...there was just enough left for a full routine. I’m going to miss this frag for sure. I’ve got a clone sitting on standby, but it just doesn’t have the same rich depth. Maybe I can get a real bottle somewhere down the line...I’d probably go for the Vetiver Intense version, which was equally as lovely.

Have a great Wednesday all!

Tonight is 1/3 of bottle #7 - Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Tonight’s sample is going to be taken neat. Tonight, before the taste, I had a dinner of a baked Herb Chicken with tomatoes, noodles, and a balsamic reduction (sweet and savory).

Surprise, surprise! Didn’t expect to see this one pop up in the box...it’s Buffalo Trace! One of my favorite based on taste alone (especially good in an Old Fashioned) but I’ve never made an attempt to pick it apart as I’ve been doing here. Should be interesting!

First, a few sniffs after the dram is poured I’m definitely getting bright orange citrus I now have come to associate this bourbon’s smell (more or less) with an Old Fashioned. So delightful! Reading along with some other tasting notes, it’s a very sweet aroma...there’s some vanilla and a smooth caramel-ish scent.

So what does Buffalo Trace taste like? up front, for the slightest moment, there’s a bit of an oily taste but it shifts instantly to a sweet, spiced fire. The vanilla sticks around to play around the orange/citrus, with a hint of anise. There’s a dry woody note. It ends with an aftertaste of just a liiitle char without the bitterness.

For a younger and less expensive bourbon, Buffalo Trace gives a lot. It’s got a lot of great value to it. The rankings stand!

Corona Virus Official Day 298:

Got to sleep in a bit today, that was nice!

Pretty good shave today. Shave 13 on the Proline. Getting hard to say whether the bit of roughness I’m feeling is from the blade or just over exfoliation trying to work up the Barber Shoppe. WTG and XTG were still pretty dang smooth. ATG was a bit rough. I know the blade sharpness is still there though...my cheeks were still basically BBS from yesterday’s shave (everything else was DFS range). The only other razors that can do that for me are usually my open blades.

Some light chores today. Mentoree meeting this afternoon.

I finally played a round of Dungeon Roll last night with the kids. Fun game! Helps to watch a gameplay video before hand, the instrument it sound more complicated than it really is. I’ve got the complete game with all 3 expansions and even sleeved them up after finding the right size. Should provide plenty of variety and fun!

Have a great Thursday all!
