If you have to do something...

Nice John! I definitely liked the sherry scent and smoothness.

Have you tried a Henson already?
I haven’t tried one yet but it looks pretty interesting. If you see a taster set of Compass Box grab it. The Story of the Spaniard is fantastic if you like the Sherried whiskies. .

Corona Virus Official Day 289:

Up early again. Headed out to work in a min.

Great shower n shave this morning. Same ol stuff as the last couple days except for switching up the AS and frag. Don’t wanna get too fancy for custodial work...might set a precedent. 😂 Should be able to shave with the Henson on video tomorrow...really looking forward to it. May have a Purchase lined up for a slightly used Parker injector too, come the New Year.

Going to try and go to the drive-in this evening with the family to see the new Wonder Woman...we’ll see!

Get er dun boys!

Have a great Tuesday all!
Wonder Woman ?! 😳

Hah! Gal Gadot is probably one of the major redeeming factors of the DC movie universe.
I’ll take your word for it.... I’m subject to having to turn my head away from the tv for any commercial or scene that has even the slightest bit scantily clad woman or else I get the hand whack to the face.... I’m pretty much trained like pavlov’s dogs now 😞

Honestly, no shame in that at all. It’s a profuse problem. My wife and I try to avoid the gratuitous or even semi-risqué stuff. For the rest, I try to resist staring too long and objectifying...to just see the story instead and all the moving pieces. It usually works.

I gotcha and agree - I was kidding around about WW 🤷‍♂️

That’s cool! Wasn’t sure. Didn’t wanna poke fun without being a little sensitive. 😂 It is a pretty big issue for men in general. 🤷‍♂️
Indeed. Years ago I heard a sermon that helped me. When I catch myself looking longer than necessary to enjoy the loveliness of God's creation, I TRY to remember to pray that she find a worthy man to appreciate her beauty, or if she's married, that they have a good marriage, etc. Basically helps me to keep my mind out of the gutter.

We used to watch some TV shows that literally ALL OF A SUDDEN had a topless woman in it. (I mean it wasn't magic, but was entirely gratuitous.) Years ago we agreed to put no vain thing before our eyes, as far as TV is concerned, and it has helped. My son is easily twice the man I was in that department, and I have little doubt it's because God laid it upon our hearts to be vigilant.

Tonight is 1/3 of bottle #2 - Grangestone 12 year Highland Scotch Single Malt.

Tonight’s sample is going to be taken neat. Tonight, before the taste, I had a dinner of Chicken, broccoli, and bacon bits over a sweet potato with alfredo sauce.

First, a few sniffs after the dram is poured. If I read long with tasting notes of another reviewer, I can pick out what I think are a slight oiliness/butter, peat, and something that comes off as leather-ish to my nose.

The single malt scotches I’ve tried are Glenmorangie 10 year and Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve. I don’t remember them well but I think Glenlivet came out on top ever so slightly.

So what does Grangestone 12 year taste like? A bit oily/buttery up front. A pop of bitter citrus. Mellow. It does have some warmth to it but not the same sharp fire as the blended malts. On the back end is a gentle peat and woody-ness. My tongue has a feel similar to the lingering aftertaste I get when smoking a pipe almost the same tobacco taste too. I feel like it pretty linear and kind of “narrow” in its flavor profile. This is very different from both Glenmorangie and Glenlivet. It’s very good in its way! I’d probably put it above the other two for now, even though it has that narrower range of flavor.

Blended Malt Scotch Rankings:

1) Naked Grouse
2) Monkey Shoulder

Single Malt Scotch Rankings:
1) Grangestone 12 year
2) Glenlivet Founder’s
3) Glenmorangie 10 year

Sounds lovely! Looking forward to more whiskey reviews! Used to be a big fan of liquor but it was not kind to me so put it down a few months ago. Still these reviews are interesting especially all the notes that some people can perceive from it. 🥃🥂

Thanks! It’s been fun so far to try and figure out what I’ve tried and still enjoy it at the same time.

Corona Virus Official Day 291:

I actually kept fairly accurate count for daily shave number! Amazing! I think I only had to adjust a couple times throughout the year 😂...that said, didn’t miss a single shave this year!

Last chance to put a little larger of a dent in CBL Money tonsorial for the next month or so (starting the LNHC 3017 tomorrow). Went with the Henson again. A little bit of sharp irritation on the final, cold water rinse, but it cleared up quickly. Definitely BBS though! Yesterday’s BBS even lasted a bit longer than expected, probably longer than my Tech BBS? Wasn’t paying too much attention.

Oh! Used my CBL shampoo bar and PdP63 shower bar today too! I have very dry skin and scalp in general. Today’s use was good though! Man, once that CBL charcoal shampoo bar get to lathering, it don’t stop! Really seemed to make my hair squeak my clean though. The PdP seemed to do a good job too...and smelled amazing!

Ready to see what the new year holds. Hopefully upward movement for me ministry/career-wise. We continue to be blessed with each other, good health, enough finances to keep us floating, and a roof over our heads. Can’t really ask for much more than that!

Hope everyone has a great evening ushering in the New Year!

Tonight is 1/3 of bottle #3 - Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Straight Bourbon

Tonight’s sample is going to be taken neat. Tonight, before the taste, I had a light dinner of ham sliders (ham sandwiched in a Hawaiian roll).

Really looking forward to this one! Bourbon is my preferred hard alcohol; sweet and smooth is my jam. Woodford gets a lot of love all around as a solid buy...though it’s (for me) on the pricey side. First, a few sniffs after the dram is poured. If I read long with tasting notes of another reviewer, I can pick out what I think are a deep, sweet caramel, a bit toward the burnt side, and a boozy vanilla. It smells, as one reviewer puts it, thick. TL;DR - Smells amazing!

I’ve tried a few different bourbons - Larceny, Jim Beam Black, Buffalo Trace, and Eagle Rare, plus some randoms here and there that I couldn’t tell you what they were. The Buffalo Trace house (which includes Eagle Rare in their lineup) is currently the house to beat for taste and accessibility.

So what does Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Straight taste like? Initially I get a huge pop of orangey citrus, very much like it’s a type of premade Old Fashioned. It’s got a moderate dose of fire to the sip, but not in a gross “young” spirit way, and it finishes pretty smooth. The predominant taste I get is like a sweet char, hint of orange, some smoke, and wood. The lingering aftertaste is a char (not gross to me). It’s a warming, hearty sip for sure!

I would say it has a lot more character than Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace but does not win out on sweetness...maybe matched in smoothness though. I think The ER and BT remain on top for more versatility and value. I do like this pour of Woodford DOS a lot though...so they aren’t ahead by much! I’d gladly take a bottle of this as a gift for pouring on special occasions!
