Shave #102:

Definitely seeing more of the bottom of the TOBS tub!

Today’s gear was the usual: Feather AC SS, Pro blade, RR Big Bruce, TOBS Sandalwood cream, and RR The Stallion to finish.

I’ve stuck with the traditional 3 pass for the most part the last few shaves, except of course for my ATG. I am holding at about 60% ATG on that pass, and combining it with a second, closer, XTG pass on the areas I can’t do ATG. Stretching of the shave surface, especially on the final pass, continues to be the key to closer shaves that I was missing for the most part pre-100th.

Final result today is about 80% BBS with DFS everywhere else. It’s be just about on par with the 100th shave except the the post shave face feel wasn’t quite there. Good stuff though!

In other things, we were graciously given an old bunk bed and dresser set from some friends who’s kids grew out of them. The shuffle to settle in our boys continues. That part of the house looks like a tornado whipped through! I hope to have things finished by the end of the week, the mess is quite an eye sore for me. The positive side is that each of the boys will have their own bed now, which they are excited at. The oldest and youngest have shared a bottom bunk for the last 5 years.

This week is going to be a notch up on the heat index, going into the upper 80s to mid 90s most of the week. I hate summer!

Nice one Chris...I will usually put some sort of soft listening music on. Soft or classic rock like Steely Dan or The Shins is usually the order of the day

Thanks! Yes, I only have a couple heavier rock albums, which the family generally doesn’t share my love for. Gentler sounds are usually the order of the day.

LOL I betcha all our SWMBO think we are crazy one way or another when it comes to wet shaving. And I am sure your boys will have a blast with the new bedroom set up!

Nice read there! We are in the market for a new bed for our son. He is 4 and the toddler bed is definitely looking small. Been looking at some bunk bed options but having a hard time finding a set for a decent price that can put up the abuse a growing boy can put furniture through.

....Screamo music and blades?”....

And that should now be your personalized avatar title! That's awesome.

Yes! They have already started dragging stuff out of boxes before we’ve even found places for it all. They have so much random stuff! They love it though.

So far we’ve always stuck with solid wood furniture, it’s just sturdy and lasts forever! Bunks are just so economical on space, even for one child per room if you find a bed-over-dresser/desk combo. They make great forts too!

Great shave.

The bunk beds sound like a nice score.

Thanks Doug!

Shave #103:

Late report, but I did do my normal shave this morning. I can’t believe it’s flippin Wednesday already!

Same set up: Feather AC SS, Pro blade (over 5 shaves on it at this point I think), RR Big Bruce, TOBS Sandalwood cream, Pinaud Original decant cut for the closer.

My shave is getting a little more confident at this point. I’ve been consistent the last few shaves, bringing the majority BBS, remainder DFS/CCS level. I’m pretty happy about this!

The shave was a little rough on the ATG today, I think I had a little less prep than I should have and didn’t let my water warm up until almost the final pass. Everything was pretty cool temp until then. Still, I hit an excellent mark at about 85% BBS, CCS under the chin.

In other things, yesterday was HOT at work. It’s my job to turn about half the AC units on and off when setting up for meetings and whatnot, so about half the rooms I’m working in aren’t cooled by the time I’m finished. When the heat hits, I’m going to be a barely moving slug, moving from shade patch to shade patch. It’s going to be a killer summer!

Nice shave, Chris. Sounds like you are really getting into a rhythm.

Earlier, I wondered why you said you hate summer. Now I think I get it.

Thanks Randall!

Yes, I’ve got a good stride going!

As for summer, it’s just my least favorite season. There are a million ways to make the others bearable, even enjoyable, but heat is just the worst one to deal with IMO.

Belated congrats on a fantastic #100, Chris! Very nice shaves since then as well. I'm a fan of both Brut and Clubman, and need to break both out more often.

Sounds like a lot of people have just skipped spring all together and went straight to summer.

Shave #104:

All the SRs passing before my eyes in the 7 Sins videos had me wanting to try something different today, so I did...

Yes, I brought back out the SR. It’s been at least a couple months since it’s seen the light of day. I was so torn on putting it away then that I didn’t even coat it for proper storage.

So the gear today was: Koken Army & Navy, Feather AC SS w/ Pro blades was on standby just in case, RR Big Bruce synth, TOBS Sandalwood, and RR The Stallion AS to finish.

I was a bit apprehensive about the SR shave (hence the Feather on standby if I couldn’t finish with the SR). The last times I had used the SR, the shaves had felt really rough and I wasn’t getting good reduction, really poor in fact, leaving a lot for me to clean up with the DE. So for good reason I was prepared to fail on the first or second pass. I gave it a good 30 complete strop passes on bridle leather and then went for the shave.

I did get one bad touchdown (I’ll be sporting a nice needle thin mark on my upper lip today) and the ATG was a bit rough, but I made it through all 3 passes! I finished pretty much on level with my Feather shaves in fact! The skills and refinements I’ve been working on the last few weeks really have made a huge difference, and it showed today. I did have to use alum to tighten up the skin a bit, especially around the cut, and it sang for a few seconds, but that’s OK.

The SR was lighter than I remembered and the tail is about 2/3 the size of my Feather, which felt a little awkward, but it was fun to bring out again. I don’t think I’ll bring it out for every shave, but once in a while.

Today I was rewarded with BBS/DFS.

In other things, not a whole lot going on. It’s the middle of the work week for me. The kids’ last day of school before summer break is today. The oldest had his “graduation” ceremony yesterday morning, as he begins Jr. High in the Fall. He is going to a different school than the majority of his friends, but he chose it because he felt comfortable there during the visit (it’s a smaller school and he has some health issues he’s working through). That’s about it!

Happy Thursday!

Shave #105:

Normal set up today, using the Feather: Feather AC SS, Pro blade, RR Big Bruce, TOBS Sandalwood, and homemade Brut AS decant to finish.

I won’t bore with the details today, usual shave, usual results; only 1 little cut and 1 old cut reopened a bit, nothing that the alum couldn’t handle!

In other things, yesterday was a killer mid-work week day! Not only was it warm, I was back and forth non-stop all night. Some major events on the grounds today, so things had to be ready and tip top shape. I was flying solo on the custodial team yesterday so the only time I got to sit was my 30 minute lunch, I even had to stay 30 minutes late to finish preparations. My body is still feeling it this morning...

Wow! A straight razor sighting! Awesome.

Glad you had better success with it this time around. You should bust it out every once in a while, just for fun.
