Shave #91:

Yep you guessed it, TOBS Sandalwood again! Razors were Feather SS (WTG and XTG) and Slim (ATG). Finished off with lather soak and Clubman Original AS concoction.

Today’s shave was about quickness. In all, shower and shave took about 30 minutes, which is pretty fast for me while still trying to maintain some felt safety with the razors. I did get one little cut with the Feather on the jaw with a bad WTG stroke, it closed off easily with the post shave routine though.

I have been working on working in a very light towel and palm stropping for the Feather. Given that the current blade is approaching its normal binning stage, this should prove very interesting or very painful. Lol.

Tomorrow is the big do-or-die day, Tabac shave finished up with The Veg! I also decided that (since I’m in an experimenting mood) I’m going to try and go a week straight with the Feather SS (pun intended?) as my only razor.

Its a good thing Jesus shaves! May the Lord have mercy on my soul and face.

Hoping to read about a shave today and not an Obit.

Shave #92:

Today marks the beginning of a new month and so some new things to try doing, mainly getting in more SR/shavette only shaves.

I decided to start things off with a bang. Second time use of Tabac and first time use of The Veg. I came, I saw, I conquered!

Today was a 3-ish pass shave with the Feather AC SS. I say -ish because the ATG pass is what I primarily need to work on. I largely kept to the directional confines each pass requires, with a few varied strokes here and there for more comfortable reduction.

WTG and XTG were uneventful and straightforward. I was able to go fully ATG on the cheeks, back and main jaw line, lower lip, and neck. I could not complete ATG on the upper lip and chin, so after a couple attempts to reset my strokes, I simply finished those areas with additional XTG strokes.

This shave marks my second use of Tabac, a soap which I have no problems keeping around. I know it’s quite a polarizing product for the traditional shaving community, but I happen to enjoy its scent and lather. The post shave feel might be very slightly lacking, but it is decently slick and overall it’s a very solid value soap.

After my shave and lather soak were completed, I felt I did not have much irritation, so I did not use the alum today. I’m really trying to avoid using it now unless I have a good nick/cut or razor burn. I like the results Alum gives, that tightening, but it does dry out my face quite a bit and I already have naturally dry skin in most areas.

So, with moistened hands and face...I put on two splashes of The Veg!

Boy was that an experience! It definitely applies right like it smells right out of the decant. That heavy, otherworldly, lilac-y, cat spray-y, skunk-y, weirdness.

Thankfully it mellowed out to the simple, muted, lilac/vegetal smell within 10 minutes. At least, either it did that or my nose is so assaulted that it quit work for the day.

I’ll say it wasn’t terrible, but now I am qualified (because I used it) to say that The Veg is not in my wheelhouse. While I don’t think Tabac makes me smell old and grandma-ish, The Veg certainly does.

I’m glad I could say I’ve tried Tabacaveg though and lived to tell!

More importantly how are people acting around you?

My wife did happen to get a whiff before she headed out on her trip. She said “You smell sweaty.” Then she realized I had shaved and said “Is that supposed to be a scent?”

I said “It’s the Lilac Vegtal scent”. To which she crinkled her nose and walked away. Lol.
