For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! Although a cold one here in Chicagoland, it was one filled with friends which was a nice "return to normal" after 2+ years of anything but. This week is formally the last one of optional WFH before our formal return to office next week, where the expectation per HR is 3 days per week in the office, 2 at home. Will be very interesting to see how it all plays out, but planning to soak up as much of the home life as possible this week.

Started touring preschools today, talk about sticker shock. There's a reason so many of them don't put prices online, I suppose! Since my wife stays home, we're really just looking for a 2 or 3 day a week, half day program and thankfully there are quite a few options locally. Definitely early since our son wouldn't be entering until autumn 2023 but want to get it figured out an on any necessary waitlists. Sigh.

Have a great Monday, thanks for stopping by and reading!

Glad you had a great weekend Ryan. I can’t imagine the costs of pre-schools nowadays! There are two sitcoms that were guilty pleasures of mine (Archer, The League) - both had funny “Parents trying to get their kids into preschool” episodes - but I can’t find any memes or gifs lol. So since The League took place in your neck of the woods - I’ll leave you with this…..

HA! I remember that episode of The League, I stopped watching Archer around season 8 so not sure when that one ran, but I'm sure it too is 100% accurate. Thankfully it's only preschool, as we purposely moved into a house that was in a district in which we wanted to send our kids to school from kindergarten through high school, but doesn't take the sticker shock away!

Happy Hump Day! It has been an incredibly quiet week at work, which is a not-entirely-unexpected benefit to everyone being on Spring Break. Took the slow work day yesterday to get some stuff checked off my honey-do list including measuring and ordering the mulch for this year as well as going through the 30 years of paint the previous 3 owners had left in our basement. We're getting a new gas fireplace insert installed in the next few weeks and all of this old paint was stored right where they'll need to work in the basement so it got elevated to the top of my honey-do. Of the staggering 43 cans of paint left from previous owners, only 4 were deemed helpful to keep as reference and another 3 new enough to donate. Remaining 36 cans I filled with 50 pounds of kitty litter (along with a 5 gal bucket for old cans more than 1/2 full) and now they're ready to toss. Found paint from the original owners that were dated from the local Ace in the year I was born. That was some old stuff. Good to have that done!

No shave yesterday but another great one with CBL Hombres and chased with a sample of D&G Light Blue. Interested to try out the new flanker, seems to be getting good reviews as essentially an EdT flanker of Light Blue Forever from last year.

Waiting for spring to arrive, but this morning brought snow. Nothing accumulating, but it's getting old. Had to reach for some "warming" software this morning as a result. Also used the slow morning to boil reset my two "first generation" Plisson knots that have fibers with a tendency to fold over with use. The one in my EverReady handle resets nicely, but the one in my custom Rudy Vey handle does not. Oh well, they were meant to be used not oodled.

Happy Friday, Cadre! It's been a quiet one at work, which was a nice way to close out 2 years of full-time WFH. It will be weird heading back to the office with regularity. Should be a nice weekend around here, heading to the zoo tomorrow with my in-laws, and Sunday is looking to be nice outside so going to be prepping the beds for new mulch, throwing down the preemergent herbicide and first fertilizer of the year, and winterizing the snow blower / revving up the lawn mower. Is there anything more "dad" than getting excited to start up the lawn mower for the first time in the spring?!

Have a great one friends, thanks for reading!

Have fun at the zoo!
Thanks Brian, the ape house is finally fully open, so we're excited for my son to see the gorillas, he loves them!

HA! The wife is already in the "don't eff with me" stage of pregnancy, so I may or may not be looking forward to spending hours outside by myself :ROFLMAO:

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! Despite the colder than normal weather, it was a good one here in Chicagoland. Went to the zoo Saturday morning with my in-laws, my son loved the gorillas and had a great time at the dolphin show per usual. Thankfully the rain held off until we were in the car heading home. Spent most of the morning yesterday prepping the beds around the house to be mulched in a few weeks with fresh edges. I had laid sod down along much of the back and side beds in the autumn to help redefine the decades of neglect, so it was a big more work setting the edge on those. Laid down the preemergent herbicide as well as the first fertilizer of the season. Went to get the lawn mower started up and the rip cord was seized up. Haven't the foggiest idea why, as I've taken great care of the mower and it's a little less than 3 years old. Manually spinning the blade makes a terrible grinding noise, so a little worried somehow the cylinder is shot. Took it over to the dealer to see what the problem is. Hopefully if it is the cylinder, it's covered under the warranty.

Getting ready for the return to office tomorrow, as this week starts my "new normal" of 3 days in the office, 2 at home. Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to it, but such is life. Have a great Monday friends, thanks for reading.
