For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Hello friends, it's nice to be back! (here on the TSC that is, not at my desk...)

Our little "staycation" was a wonderful 5 day disconnect from most everything for me and the family. Minimized phone time, didn't check work email, and overall had a lovely relaxing time at home. On Friday we went to the local park district indoor water dome that has a nice little kids play area that my son really enjoyed.

Biggest news around here is that my wife and I are expecting our second child, a baby girl, come the end of August! We are into the second trimester now, and had the chance to tell all our friends and family last week. We've always been on the fence between 2 and 3 kids, and it's a relief that we'll have one of each a boy and girl so if we do decide for a 3rd, it is truly because we want to be a family of 5 and not a conscious or subconscious hope for a specific gender. We're both over the moon and can't wait to meet our little girl in 6ish months.

Shaves were nice and quick, with continued use of my Bic SP and Canadian Williams, with just a couple shaves skipped on Thursday and Saturday. The Bic SP felt a little rough the last couple of shaves, so beginning to wonder if it's about time to bin it.

Thanks for stopping by!

@Scuttlesoap @MarkB @woodpusher @Bill M @GearNoir thank you very much gentlemen!!

Bill, your comment reminds me of the stories my grandfather used to tell about being at the hospital during labor & delivery back in the 40's and 50's where all expectant dads sat in the waiting room with their cigarettes, whiskey, and ultimately cigars. Just slightly different than being in the OR with my wife during her c-section last time around!

Hope everyone had a good Monday. We officially got the communication that April 4th is our official return-to-office date where we'll be expected to be in the downtown office 3 days a week again. Prior to Covid, we were in the office 4 days, so I think most people were expecting 2 days in the office, 3 days at home. HR has continued to say that it's a learning experience for all, so I'm hoping it settles at 2 days in, 3 days at home, but only time will tell. Time, and in reality, the actions and expectations of our finance leadership team that sits in Chicago. I'm going to ease back into my downtown commute, with 1 day a week for the next 3 weeks, followed by 2 days a week for the last couple weeks in March. While I definitely did not miss the 3 hours of commuting per day, it will be nice to return to something resembling normalcy again.

Yesterday's shave with the Bic SP was smooth as ever, so there's hope for this blade yet as we approach 30 shaves. Expect tomorrow to be the last day of the Williams but also might be able to squeak out one more shave past that.

We’ve been going back and forth on the return to work…..people who work at the corporate office were given the option on whether they wanted to or not - if they chose not - they lost their offices and when they had to come in - they’d have to use hotel space…..which I think works out for everyone - company saves in office space (they’ll condense office space - and hotel space is easier to build out) and people who want to stay home get to

for those that work on contracts - it is up to what the customer wants - but a lot of the fed side is leaning towards contractors staying remote (basically reclaiming contractor office space so that each fed employee gets their own office) - or downsizing their office space altogether.

Of course - always subject to change.

Back to the office for the first time since mid-December. Still very few people here but it is nice to slowly get back into a groove. Woke up at 5, worked out, showered, shaved and out the door to the train.

Needless to say like many baseball fans, I'm entirely disheartened by the news coming out of the negotiations. Greed from billionaire owners is going to derail the already fragile fanbase and I fear this time baseball might have an ever harder time coming back from a lost season compared to '94. Manfred's comments have been comical at best and insulting at worst. Was really looking forward to taking my son to games this season. Even if there's an abbreviated season, I have such a bad taste in my mouth I'm not sure about it anymore.

I can’t believe they have such short memories from the previous strikes - tether that with COVID for the past two seasons - you’d think they’d do everything they could to get the game on the field.

That's the most frustrating thing. And once everything does get settled, this season or next, you know the owners will be crying poor and using any "concessions" they made against the MLBPA as an excuse to further raise prices on tickets, parking, beer, etc.

I love baseball. I love going to Sox Park. But I have a feeling most of us will continue to feel the strain of inflation on our pocketbooks and the cost : enjoyment ratio compared to just watching at home is going to price me out of going to any more than a couple games a season...

Almost to the weekend, friends! Nothing too exciting to report, except that I tried my sample of FS Ferragamo EdT today and it is surprisingly nice! Definitely parts of that generic blue profile, but I'm also getting some nice subtle leather and musk notes after a few hours which is nice! I don't think I'm into the super leather forward frags like TF Ombre Leather but having some of those notes combined with citrus and ambroxan is one I'm liking!

Happy Friday, Cadre! Going to be a busy weekend. My BIL got free tickets to the Field Museum downtown tomorrow, so we're headed there with him and my MIL/FIL. My son will definitely love the dinos, just a bit of an excursion getting down to the city with a little man who's not poop potty trained yet. Then out to the boonies on Sunday for my wife's grandmother's birthday. Talk about a lot of extended family / in-law time...serenity now...my glass of scotch by the fireplace tonight is looking better by the minute!

Another day and another great shave with the sliver of Williams that won't die. Oh well, can't argue with great shaves.

Have a great weekend friends, thanks for reading!
