Fluffy's Curmudgeon Corner

Didn't get around to posting up last evening's shave.
It was a nice first go round with the Our Very Best, Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett razor. It's a smaller razor in blade width and tang size as well. Sometimes it's nice to change things up. The size difference makes you pay more attention. The WK Merchant of Tobacco is in heavy rotation. And does not let me down. Followed by Tobacco AS from Germany.

How you all have a good Sunday
Fluffy

Relaxed Sunday shave. Second action with the OVB razor. Nice little razor. Did a small bit of stuff around the house. Groomed the dog. Generally just relaxed.
Looks like Monday is gonna be a washout. No tar and chip tomorrow. Who knows what we will be up to. Pot luck Monday will be the title.
WK is still in play tonight. As this Tuesday I should be able to try my Victory Shave Co. Flak Bait.

Have a good Monday guys
Fluffy.

Nice day today. It was much cooler. Overcast/cloudy remnants of the hurricane. Raining at present. My hypothesis. That the GD 66 would be a more enjoyable razor for me to use. With converting it from a round point to the superior "square point". As with most of my theories. I was correct. Most certainly this extensive modification. Only possible with skills and tools (bench grinder) that only a few artisans possess. Has easily doubled the value of this razor.
The premium recycled steel. Honed to exacting standards. The square point allowing it to be wielded with scary precision. Glided through my barbed wire whiskers. Like Grant through Vicksburg. Result, NBDBBS.
Tuesday I will be impersonating a low budget moving company. For my wife's kid. I can't wait. It's gonna be awesome.
Hope that all of you made it through Monday.

As promised here is the story of how I got the CHH Tobacco Aftershave.
Backstory. I like tobacco scents a lot. So when I see a SOTD post with a item featuring it. That get's my attention.
This AS is just such a item. After quite a lot of frustrating searching on the web. I was unable to find a retailer that would ship to the US. I even contacted the manufacturer inquiring about a distributor or possible source in the US. No dice.
Then on a hail Mary play. I reached out to the members on the forum I frequented at the time. After a while a member in Germany offered to make it happen. Yee haw. This gentleman packed two bottles of the AS in his carry on. He was traveling to Florida. Once here in the states. He went to a Post Office and mailed to me. He asked nothing in return. But that is not cool in my book.
Reading back through his posts. I found out the kind of straights that he liked. And sent him a few American examples. Luckily he got them just before Christmas. He was surprised and thankful;
But it was the least I could do.
On to the AS. It is a basic drug store aftershave in Germany( inexpensive). The scent is medium in strength and medium light in longevity. I would say it's tobacco flower rather than cured tobacco. Will I seek out someone to "Smuggle" some into the country for me again? Probably not. But it is cool to have a "unobtanium" AS to use every now and then.

I love finding those hard to get aftershaves. Pipe and cigar tobacco scents are my fav as well. Some that I own and like are Siliski Soaps Santa's Pipe, Blackship Grooming Captain's Pipe, Tiki The Captain, and Catie's Bubbles Connecticut Shade. As far as EDTs, I have Pure Havane, but I would love to get my hands on a sample of Perfumes de Marley Herod and Mancera's Red Tobacco.

Good Wednesday today. It got even better when I opened my mailbox. Inside was my Flak Bait shave soap. Will go into more when I have more time for a thorough use. First impression=😁 very good.
Hope everyone’s hump day was good. Sorry I couldn’t make the zoom call.

Happy Thursday Cadre.
Decent day today. We squeezed in one last day to Tar and Chipping at the County. We loose the Tar Distributor truck for two weeks. That will give the crews time to catch up on their wedge and level operations. That usually precede the chipping. After a full day of bouncing around in my big rig. I returned home to find my new F. W. Engels razor waiting for me on the front porch.
Along with a amazon box for my wife and another box of medicine for the wife.
So after the snafu with the seller sending me the incorrect razor. The delay was only a few days. Was it worth the wait. Boy howdy heck yea it was. The razor is in near pristine shape. With only the faintest of grey patina on the blade. That only took 5 minutes of polishing with a cloth and some mothers aluminum polish. To remove.
No hone wear. And a possibly original edge. It's 6/8ths. Super thin extra hollow grind. And lays dead flat on the hone. This thing "rings" like a tuning fork when you strop it. My Fili's and some others do that as well. That sound has the same effect as a Victoria's Secret fashion show. First shave with it was......wait for it. Pretty damn skippy.
Second shave with the Flak Bait. Used less water this time. I can safely say the scent is mucho grande. And the performance is real solid. I am usually leery of non-tallow soaps. But since @BarberDave and @Dave in KY @Spider and others have given it high marks. I felt confident that it would be good. This will not be my last Victory soap. One could stay with just TSC soap vendors and never get a bum soap. Word to your momma.
Friday looms large in the windshield. The weekend beyond the horizon. We have but to release the brakes and get on the gas. Let's go you guys.

Very nice!

What do you mean you lose the Tar truck? Goes to a different county for two weeks?
