This was my first use with A&E’s new Kaizen base. Initial reaction is that the consistency of the soap was very similar to DG’s Milksteak base. The scent off the puck is very good, I would say a 7 out of 10. It is very easy to lather, lather is slick and protective. Very nice residual slickness and post-shave feel is very good as well. I would like to use it a few more times before doing a full review, but initial thoughts are that this is a very good soap. It reminds me a lot of DG Milksteak soaps. Thanks for reading Cadre!

Been a while since I posted in my journal. I have been a little busy at home trying to get caught up on projects now that work is starting to get back to more normal hours. Also just been a little bummed out about recent events that took place, but that’s just life. I have kept count of my shaves and slowly my SR count is catching up to my DE count. I have been watching a lot of videos on honing and prepping stones because that is something I am excited to get into and I have a couple razors that could benefit from some touch-ups. I also have been researching different grinds on SR’s. I love my full hollows and the singing they do, but my chin hair is pretty determined to not let the blade mow them down. Hopefully y’all have been staying safe and in good spirits!

Great looking shave Pat. Good to see you pop in. Excited to see how you like honing! What sets/methods have you chosen to start with?

I hope this week holds better things for ya.

I have gotten a lot of great advice and @CBLindsay was kind enough to help get me started by selling me a few synthetics for a great price. I am going to go with a synthetic progression from 1K (bevel set), 4K, 6K (with slurry), 12K, and then finish on a Black Arkansas. I’m going to see how that does and depending on the results I may even strop on a couple pasted balsa strops before going to linen and leather.

Great looking setup Pat! I am also doing the synth progression with an SB Ark finisher. I haven’t bought the SIC powder yet to work the Ark any.
Thanks Tim! I haven’t bought it yet, but Chris and Dave were telling me to use a diamond late and then WD sandpaper from 2000 up to 4000. Then WD40 with 0000 steel wool to get the mirror finish on it.

There are few things in life as rewarding as starting the day with the sense of accomplishment you get when you lather up with a great soap and wipe away the previous 24hrs whisker growth with a blade you honed to perfection.

We celebrate the great things our forefathers accomplished throughout history but if you take a moment to think about what made those men capable of such greatness...it was all those little things they did for themselves each and everyday that WE consider challenging but THEY called routine. Hone a razor and shave with it...Rule the world.

Very well put Chris!
