Shave Quality
Another really great shave from the Shark SS and PAA Kiritimati. The WCS brush is finally giving me the lather that I want. More on that in the gear section. I had 3+ passes worth of dense lather that smelled heavenly. The Shark SS + Gillette SS worked that BBS magic on my face. There was very little alum feedback. A healthy splash of the AS and I am feeling like a Christmas Pirate. It was a great way to start my second to last day at my current employer.
Gear
the PAA Kiritimati soap is a fabulous scent (Scent Notes: Frankincense, Myrhh, Bay, Seaweed, Oakwood, Ambergris, Benzoin, Blue Spruce, Tobacco, Labdanum, and Lavender) and the CK Kokum Butter formula is Definitely TIer 1, Box 1 on the Vargo Scale. I would rank it just a bit below the CBL soap base due to not having quite as good of a post-shave feel. The scent more than makes up for it. I am not a huge Bay Rum fan, but this one is killer. (I still need to try PAA's other Bay Rums.)
The PAA Kiritimati aftershave splash is definitely interesting. The scent profile is still an absolute knock out like the soap, but the performance of the AS is interesting. There is a West Indian Bay leaf in every bottle as well as some sediment from the making and aging of the product. The Bay leaf over time "enhances" certain qualities of the aftershave. (Please note: I bought this soap and AS for Christmas 2017 but did not finish the whole product at that time.) The aftershave gets a hot streak from the Bay leaf. There is a rather intense burn from the Bay as it goes on, kinda like menthol in reverse. It doesn't last too long, but it is eye opening. The dry down is worth it. The scent lasts all day. It makes for quite an experience.
The WCS Silvertip is a good brush. I think it has finally stopped shedding. It lost 5-6 hairs the first use and 1 almost every shave since. I didn't notice any hair loss today. The knot is 26mm dense, soft, and floppy badger hair. It splays really wide with little downward pressure. Anyone who is a face latherer and is looking for a budget Silvertip might want to give this one a try. I still think it is not a great brush for bowl lathering. It works, don't get me wrong, but I think synthetics and boars give better, faster results when used with a bowl. This brush is a keeper, and a good purchase that I will continue to enjoy. However, it is never going to be my first choice of brush. I have only one badger so far that I think is better, and that is the vintage Made Rite that I found in the wild.
Other Thoughts
I have had several people take me up on my offer of a tuck of Parker PP blades since Chad reviewed them. This makes me happy. I think the blade is top notch and I hope that others like it as much as I do. I bought most of them when Parker was still doing their introductory special, so I got a deal on them. It is nice to be able to share them and get more people interested.
Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.
