The OREN is a strange razor, but it gives a really great shave. The Bluebell gave me an excellent lather. A heavy load plus plenty of water makes for a fantastic shave. It is BBS- because I was in a bit of a hurry this morning due to an early meeting. The face is feeling great today and the nicks from Sunday are almost completely healed. Can't complain about anything shaving related today.

Gear
The OREN is a minimalist sort of razor. It had just enough metal to hold the Feather Artist Club blade securely and be functional. Loading the blade takes a tiny bit of finesse, but once it is loaded it won't come back out. Changing the head to change the aggression requires a jeweler's screwdriver set. (This isn't a huge problem. I had one on hand.) It takes a #1 Phillips Head. This is a deal breaker for me. Screws strip too easily and finding these tiny screws as replacements could be a chore. The razor also comes with a tool to assist in blade insertion and removal. My razor shouldn't need separate tools. I am glad that I got to try this hardware, but it is not for me. The General from Colonial Razors shaves as good or better.

I should use Clubman SR more often. I love that woody and leathery scent. Great juice.

The Atomic Rocket is a great brush. It is definitely worth the price of admission. I really like the handle. If you are considering the purchase of a RazoRock Big Bruce, also take a look at this brush. On Sunday I will move on to the next PAA brush.

Other Thoughts
Yay for Friday.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

I hate office politics. I hate having to worry about "visibility" and metrics and all the other numbers crap that only seems to matter to managers. I just want to quietly do my job, put out a quality product, and fly under the radar. I hate having to play the "Look at me! I did stuff! I'm valuable!" game. It is a rigged game where no matter how much you do and how much "visibility" you get, it is never enough. It always comes down to "Great! You did all that. Now do all that again but this time do more." The goal posts are always moving. The only way to win is to not play.
This sounds very familiar to me. I'm more of the "Leave me alone and let me do my work" type. I consistently do more than is asked of me, and those goalposts never seem to be any closer. Bah!

An excellent Saturday SE shave.

The Enoch really performed well. It was not as aggressive as it looks. The lather was amazingly slick and thick. There was also about 6 passes worth. It made for a very low effort BBS. I even went ahead and did the third pass, which I usually skip. Just great stuff.

Gear
The Enoch is great, but the angle of head to handle does require getting one's hand close to the face. So, that is a little weird in places, and can make maneuvering it a little tricky. The handle is also thinner than I really like. It is a great shaver that I would not be sad to own. However, it is not one that I am going to spend money on.

Loving the Fine AB today. The scent is out of this world good.

Other Thoughts
Had a good Saturday.

Next week should be interesting.

Sometimes when you chase that baby smooth shave you get burned, razor burned that is. I went for the third pass and that left me with a couple of pin-prick sized weepers and some lasting burn. It has been a couple of hours and it is settling down finally. I really should have stopped at 2 passes. The lather was rich, slick, and had nice residual slickness. The quality of the lather tricked me into thinking I could get away with a third pass for the second day in a row. How wrong I was.

Gear
My General still has the original aluminum handle on it. After using the stainless handled one from the passaround, I am thinking about getting a new handle for mine, like a Maggard MR5. I really need to wait a bit before I put in another order though.

The PAA Green Ray is a great brush. The knot is ultra soft and really whips up a good lather. This one is another winner.

Other Thoughts
The weekends are too short.

Shave Quality
Pressed for time again today. The lather was decent, but could have been better. It was still much better than many other soaps. The razor only got me to DFS-ish. I can still feel stubble in most places. Tomorrow will be better.

Gear
The BD179 really failed to deliver today. I think it needs a different blade.

Other Thoughts
It has been a long day of meetings for Program Increment Planning today.

I am a little impressed.

Shave Quality
The lather was perfect. Thick, slick, and protective to the max. The Mergress was mild but really efficient with the Parker blade. Two passes left me full-on BBS with no irritation. The razor just skated over my problem areas leaving me with no lasting irritation. It was an excellent introduction to the Mergress. I am a happy shaver today.

Gear
The large stainless knob on the Mergress XL definitely changes the balance. While the regular Progress is very head heavy, the Mergress XL is decidedly tail heavy. However, it is closer to balanced than the standard Progress. The Parker Variant is a little closer to balanced, IMO. The shave was excellent. The heavy knob helps give the razor a solid feel against the skin and helps maintain even contact throughout each stroke. I found myself wanting to hold back on the razor, rather than push down. I am going to have to do some comparison shaves with the Variant and the regular Progress, but I do think that the shave is just a bit better with the Mergress. That could also be an effect of my perceptions relating to the cost and work put into the razor.

Other Thoughts
It is Tuesday. So far it has been an okay week. Hopefully that will continue.

Good stuff

Shave Quality
Today's shave was a little rougher than yesterday's. The lather was almost as good, but that is probably because I was a little pressed for time. It was a very nice BBS shave.

Gear
The Variant head has a little more friction than the Mergress head. It is still a smooth shaver, but it is not quite as smooth. The Variant is also a little more head heavy than the Mergress XL. It makes for a more aggressive shave at the same setting. The shave was still excellent. This is a fabulous razor design. However, I have to give the Mergress higher marks.

Other Thoughts
It's Hump Day...

I am feeling very blessed to be a part of the TSC after the most recent Social Distancing call this last Wednesday evening.

Thank you everyone for giving me an evening to remember, especially Chad and Megan.

The Cadre is full of amazing people.

Another comparison shave.

SOTD Pic

Shave Quality
It was a really smooth shave today. A really great lather combined with the mild yet efficient head of the Progress made for a BBS shave. I did press down a bit too much, however. There is a bit of razor burn going on.

Gear
I may keep going with the comparison shaves, but after three I can definitely say that the Mergress XL is a superior razor. The Parker Variant is a great shaver, but the finish on the head gives it a little more drag than either the Progress or the Mergress, but the handle has a good weight making for a decently balanced razor. The Progress has a good chrome finish, but all the weight is in the head and the razor is very light overall. It can be easy to use too much pressure with it. The Mergress XL is heavy, but has good balance. The adjustment is smoothest of the three, but that is not the main attraction. The weight gives the razor presence in the hand making it less likely that one will use too much pressure while shaving with it. That adjustment knob does make a big difference.

Shave #2 with the Mergress XL

Shave Quality
One word... Amazing.

The lather was everything it should have been. The razor skated across my face. I came out of it with a very nice, low irritation BBS. Happy Friday!

Gear
The PAA Green Ray brush is excellent. It has the same knot as the Yaqi 26mm Rainbow Handle, just at 24mm. This brown knot is one of my favorite synthetic knots. The Green Ray is a lather machine that feels great on the face.

I am loving the shaves that the Mergress is giving me. It is a nice improvement over the standard Progress which is a very fine piece of shaving hardware to begin with.

Other Thoughts
The people in my office like discussing politics a little too much. Ugh.
