Overview
Chin nicks are the worst.

SOTD Pic
None

Shave Quality
The shave with the Shovelhead would have been near perfect, if not for the nick on the tip of my chin that I keep reopening. After today's shave, I will need to take a day or two off to let the darned thing heal. *Grumble, grumble* It was a BBS- shave otherwise. Without the nick and some lasting irritation, it would have been full-on BBS.

Gear
The Shovelhead is less finicky than the MMCP. The large heads on GEM style razors can make them difficult to use.

Other Thoughts
Listening to The Monkees today. Good stuff.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Well if it doesn't run out soon, we might have to suspect that Doug actually used up the soap long ago and want to see how long he can keep the gag going.

Overview
Let my chin heal for three days, but couldn't stand it anymore.

SOTD Pic

Shave Quality
So, my chin is mostly healed but I really needed to get rid of three days' growth. So, my first shave in OCtober Had to be an OLD Type with a really, really good carbon steel blade. The Treet Classics (Treet Classic | Treet Corporation) work really well for me, even better than the Treet Black Carbon blades. It was a two pass BBS with no, and I mean no, residual irritation. I am a very happy shaver today.

Gear
The Treet Classics are a nice throwback sort of blade. They are sharp and smooth carbon steel blades. This kind of blade is just what the OLD Type was designed to use. They are a fabulous pair.

Also, the OLD Type is still one of the best razors that Gillette has ever made.

Other Thoughts
233.9 on the scale this morning. I am slowly inching down towards 230. Loving the Keto lifestyle, but I am starting to miss pizza just a bit. I will have to make some Chaffle pizzas or learn how to make Fathead Dough. BTW, if you are doing Keto you need to learn about Chaffles. They are egg and cheese waffles that are amazing.

I've not tried Chaffles yet, but I make pizza every friday. I make a variation of fathead dough. It's pretty good.

A quick Saturday shave.

SOTD Pic

Shave Quality
This Saturday shave was a bit rougher than Friday's shave. But, it was very, very good. The shave was BBS but there was some residual irritation. Overall I can't complain about the shave.

Gear
The brass Gillette OLD Type was not as smooth as my Ivory ad OLD Type, but it is still a great shaver. It works well with the Treet Classic carbon blades.

Other Thoughts
I have been trying lots of different bourbons and rye whiskeys lately. I like the Bulleit Rye, and the Overhorlt rye. The Larceny bourbon is good, but I have found a couple of fun bourbons. I have alot of really great pours in my liquor cabinet right now. I am really enjoying my whiskey journey right now.

Shave Quality
99 shaves and the tub and bottle are empty. Every shave was a good one. Today's shave was a good send off for this wonderful soap. BBS, two passes, little irritation. The lather was wet and sloppy and everything you could want in your morning lather.

Gear
The Piccolo is a really great razor it performs better than some that are much more expensive. It paired well with the IRP blade.

The Strike Gold Commander-In-Chief formula is definitely in my top 5 soaps. For me, it is up there with A&E, CBL, and Tabac performance-wise. This soap has a permanent home in my den. If I had been a little more sparing I could have easily pushed it past the 100 shave mark, but I like loading a little on the heavy side for a better lather.

Other Thoughts
I have a one day work week this week. Tomorrow morning the wife and I are embarking on a trip. I can't wait.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

LOL!!!!

Well, I'd get excited about seeing a new soap, but something tells me that you might use that one for a little while as well.
I am going to do some Tabac for Tabactober, then we will see what November looks like. It will probably be PAA Magi, but might be something else. I have a few Christmas-type scents to choose from. Maybe I will rotate them all through November and December. We will see.

Overview
Some vacation face lathering and back to work (and my shave mug) today

SOTD Pic

Shave Quality
So, I took a Tabac shave stick on my trip to DC. It was a great trip and the Tabac stick worked well. It reminded me how important pre-shaves are to my routine. The shaves were BBS, but had more sting immediately post shave than I usually have. It was nice to be back home today for my full routine. Today's shave was BBS all the way and left me with a great face feel. The lather was a bit too dry, but it did the job very well.

Gear
Tabac is still a wonderful soap. I will have to figure out the face lathering thing with the stick, but the puck in the bowl is easy as pie. The stick worked, but it still needs a pre-shave of some sort.

After reading @CBLindsay talk about Stirling boar brushes, I had to pull out the one that I got from @Dagwoodz in his PIF. It is a good brush. I really like the handle. The knot isn't quite as good as some Semogue knots, but it isn't far behind. Great brush!

Other Thoughts
Time to start stalking my Reindeer Buddy for this year. It should be lots of fun.

I’m also using the Stirling boar this week. Still breaking it in, but I like it.

I may have missed reading about it. How did you make out with that SB Ark?

Yup, the Stirling boar is a great brush at a great price.

I haven't been doing any honing lately. I like the SB Ark. It is a great finisher.

Taking a break from OCtober to try out the OneBlade.

Shave Quality
Two passes with great lather and a mild razor left me full-on BBS. The shave was effortless. I left the house feeling, and smelling, like $1 billion.

Gear
Tabac... What can I say about it that hasn't already been said. I love it. Were I ever to go minimalist it would be one of the few soaps/ASes that I would keep around. When I get my shipment of CBL Tonsorial I am definitely going to use Tabac as the measuring stick.

The OneBlade Core v2...

The razor feels strange on my face. The polymer head feels like nothing else I have used in the past. It shaves like a GEM razor, if a GEM head were plastic. The handle feels good in the hand. There is some heft to the handle. It is balanced well enough to easily find a proper shaving angle. I can see why it is as popular as it is. I don't like the pivoting head. It really, really doesn't need a pivot. I wish there were a way to lock it in place. The method of blade loading is simple and easy, but I don't like the way the v2 is designed to try and force use of the FHS-10 blades. The blade worked well on my face and gave me an effortless shave. I don't like the $0.70 price tag for each blade. I wish I could use a GEM blade in this without having to physically modify the blade (using a hand nibbler). I am going to spend the ~$15 to get the nibbler so that I can use my supply of 200+ GEM blades in it, but it is silly the lengths I will have to go to use my blade of choice in this razor. The PAA Starling (The Phoenix Starling V2 Single Edge Safety Razor - Anodized 7075 Aluminum) is a much better deal in this regard. (NOTE: I don't own a Starling, yet, but I do intend to acquire one.) I will probably buy the occasional pack of FHS-10 blades (especially since they fit my Valet SEs.) but they won't be purchased in bulk. So, overall, it performed well, but is disappointing in many ways. I am glad that it only cost me $20, it isn't worth it at a higher price.

Other Thoughts
Things progress as expected, but not necessarily as desired. I must bide my time.

I almost picked up one of the One Blades (I dont recall which version) but the price on ebay quickly reached the actual retail price and I backed off. Why would people on ebay bid up to retail when they can go place an order for the same (or lower) price? Nothing on the website indicated the product was unavailable. I think one of the listing may have had a stand or extra head or something but still the price hit retail for the package.

Mine included the razor, stand, and 10 blades. It is the "Core" model, so it is the basic, entry version. I am not sure why people would bid it up to full retail, but ebay is a weird place. All the models include a stand or a case of some sort now.

I am glad that I didn't pay full retail for it. At $20 I will keep it. At $50 I think I would be returning it.

Two passes and BBS again with great face feels. Great lather. The OneBlade made quick work of it.

Gear
The OneBlade Core is good for a quick shave. I was a little pressed for time today, so I had to shave faster than normal. It was a good shave. I still don't really like the feel of the razor.

Other Thoughts
