The weekend update...

Shave Quality
Saturday's shave was pretty good. I got myself BBS with a bit of leftover irritation which I suspected later that day was from the soap. It would have been a great shave with my second attempt at honing the ZY had it not been for the irritation.

Sunday's shave was rougher than it should have been. Usually the G-Bar is a pleasure to use. It is a solid razor that is mild and efficient. I was BBS but again there was more residual irritation than I am used to. I was really starting to wonder if the same thing that happened with the Haslinger Sage was starting to happen with the Haslinger Aloe Vera.

Today I only made it through one pass with the Haslinger Aloe. About half way through the pass my face started burning in places that the razor had not yet touched. I finished the shave with some KMF unscented and am going to discontinue use of this one. I am really disappointed that my face doesn't like this soap, even though it is not a top tier performer.

Gear
I am throwing in the towel on Haslinger. The unused puck of Schafmilch is going on the PIF pile. I am moving on to something that is less likely to make my face hurt and putting Haslinger on the "do not buy again" list.

The ZY seemed to have a decent edge. It and the Shumate both did a decent job of removing stubble. I am sure that I can get even better edges with more practice, but I feel like I am off to a good start. Now I just need to spend more time with my various stones.

Other Thoughts
I started watching the show Rake with my wife. It is an Australian legal drama starring Richard Roxburgh. So far it is really good and very werid. I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Shave Quality
Another day, another soap, another adverse reaction. They don't always feel the same or start in the same place, but my mustache area is a common place for the tingling/burning to start. The ones that drive me nuts, like with the Haslinger Sage, are the ones that start on my cheeks that I mistake for razor burn. This one started in my mustache area. Unfortunately, I somewhat expected it. The shave was BBS otherwise.

Gear
The Kraken is an aquatic scent. Some (many? most?) of them have lime as a scent component. That is one thing that I know I will react to in most cases. The soap performance was Tier 1, Box 2 or 3 easily. The soap lathers easily. It is slick and protective. It has decent post-shave conditioning. If my face had agreed with the scent it would have been a superb shave. Another one for the PIF pile.

The fat handle Tech with the Red Personna was a really great combination. Mild and efficient. Happy Tech Tuesday!

Other Thoughts
Having sensitive skin is rough sometimes. There are a ton of products that I am finding that I react to. However, considering the huge amount of products that I have tried in recent months, there are only a handful that have reacted. I have a ton of really good soap that my face loves. It could be so much worse.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

Glad most of what you’re using is working out for you. Sucks when you react to something.... especially if you love the scent! I’ve only reacted to a couple, but it’s not fun.

Shave Quality
It seems like forever since I have had a really good shave and today's was one. The Ballenclaugh, with a good bit of water, gave me a really good two-pass shave. I am just shy of BBS but my face feels great. The MJ-90 works well with a Red Personna. I really need to find a good tobacco aftershave to go with this soap.

Gear
Ballenclaugh is a definite keeper. It is Box 2, Tier 1 and something I could happily 3017. The slightly sweet and nutty scent is simply wonderful.

The MJ-90 rocks. This is the ultimate EJ-style DE razor. If you are thinking about getting an EJ, definitely take a look at this instead.

Other Thoughts
I am plateaued at 248. This is getting annoying. Hopefully I am poised for some losses soon. This is still much better than where I have been in the past.

Alright, a good shave under your belt. Lets not go crazy with the 3017 talk after one date.

Nice you finally got a good shave!

Just notice you started watching the Australian Rake, I made the mistake of watching a couple of episodes of the US one, and it put me off the whole idea. But I keep hearing the original is great, going to have to give it a look.
