Dagwoodzs Tonsorium; vlog, shaves and reviews

Super coupla shaves! Loves me some Friodur! Not sure if there’s anything to the cryo treatment, but they are great stuff. Definitely going to give Sellout a go. If only for scientific comparison with Fine.

Thanks Rich! Sellout was suprisingly close, scent-wise, to Aventus, though I think the differences between the three big clones (this, Fine Platinum and Stirling Executive Man) that I've tried are somewhat minimal, with Fine being the closest of the three. The differences seem to be in the portrayal of the pineapple note up top, which is also where the differences are in the different batches of Aventus. So it could be just a case of the batch that they were based off of.

Been watching a lot of your vids and enjoy the thoroughness and honesty.
The Lisa's soaps definitely have me intrigued.
As for the sellout,....I bought it because I wanted to try the base and the previous Icarus soaps that I've bought, just did not sit well with my nose.
I'm by no means an Aventus admirer, but it's tolerable. Lol
Regarding the different 'Aventus' soaps, I find that they capture the opening scent more than the dry down. A&E Spartacus is probably the one for me, that captured the scent in its entirety.

Nice video Josh. I'm going thru some samples at the moment but need to go to the 3 tubs of hers I have during winter especially for the moisturizing. Maybe I can get her to do a KY Bourbon scent for me. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Oh Lisa !!!

Josh,

I always enjoy your videos. I am always amazed at how you move that straight around your face while discussing the shave and the soap in a coherent manner. Really good job.

I tried my first soap in Lisa's new base the other day in her Doc Holiday scent and must say the scent was really very pleasant. The soap performs in a top-shelf manner to my way of thinking and the post-shave was excellent as you point out.

I finally had a go using Australian Private Reserve Florian which I recall you liking. While the soap performed at a high level for me, the scent, while pleasant, was a little over the top in intensity, particularly when I applied the matching aftershave which I did on two out of three shaves with this soap. All scent reactions are subjective and personal. For me, Ozymandias is a much nicer scent--exquisite as it evolves through the shave and after--I don't think you get that with just smelling the puck. I have one more APR to try, La Violetta.

Thanks Pottertons...I enjoy, personally, the Aventus-type scents. They aren't my favorite, and the fact that SWMBO doesn't like them (or Aventus) is a huge reason I held off on this one for a while. But, curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to see how close it was to the real deal. Spartacus is another one that I have yet to try out...not sure if I'm going to as there is going to be a fairly large den reduction here in the near future. With me already having Fine Platinum and Sellout, there really isn't all that much space for another Aventus clone.

La Violetta sounded nice, but I already have Tuesday, which is B&M's lavender and violet scented soap so I have that scent niche covered. Sorry that Florian didn't agree with you. I found it to be a nice scent, but nothing that I would go crazy for. If I were looking for something with that scent profile, I would just grab my stick of Arko, as it's, to my nose, a more refined version of that. Interesting that it was almost overpowering when the aftershave was applied.

Thank you Chad, (and Chris and Dave) for giving us a platform to share!

I’m still a couple vids behind but I wanted to make a quick comment about your comments regarding hard water. First, bottled drinking water can have a significant amount of added minerals (for taste) so I would imagine it could have the same effect as moderately hard water depending on what minerals are added.

There are several additives that combat hard water issues, they are commonly referred to as chelating agents. Citric Acid and EDTA are the two that come to mind, both can be added to the soap to improve hard water performance. If users want to have an excellent experience with most every shave they can prepare a spray bottle with distilled water, a bit of Glycerin, a pinch of Citric Acid and a small drizzle of castor oil and use that mix to whip up lather.

Thanks for chiming in, Chris...I remember reading that somewhere, that bottled water has potential to be quite hard. I'm not sure what this water that I'm using would be considered, but with that being said, it's a constant through all of my shaves.

Great shave Josh! I’m glad the razor didn’t exact it’s toll. We should endeavor to preserve our precious bodily fluids as much as possible. Having said that, I probably should try the mmoc again. LoL
