Corona Virus

Sadly I think the longer this goes on the more of these stories we are going to hear. People want to get back to normal. Not NEW normal. In the grand scheme of things this is probably just going to be a blip on the life radar for a lot of us. But for a few it will define their life with loss. Because of that I will wear a mask and suffer through the boredom.

Unfortunately, people are stressed way more than normal these days are are probably more likely to take out their frustrations on strangers than would otherwise be the case. That's neither an excuse nor justification of behaviour, just my $0.02 (CDN)

The stress is EVERYWHERE! It's even in our kids. Everyone is feeling it. Now granted we have done a lot of camping but at least our kids haven't been playing with their cousins, playing soccer, doing swim lessons, play dates with friends from school, trips to the zoo, trips to the aquarium, and many other summer activities we would do. They desperately need a change!

The social effects of this virus at times seem worse than the disease... key word at times... I mean death is pretty serious.

It's easy to underestimate how important it is for us to feel like we have control of our 'world'. Since we usually live life with a pretty comfortable illusion that we are in control, we don't stress too much. Whether it is the mask requirements, directional arrows in store isles or some other requirement imposed by others as a result of the COVID crisis, they all represent a compounding of the loss of control COVID has brought upon people. I would bet most people who are violently opposed to masks or any other restriction/requirement are only doing it to try to assert and/or regain control. For them ANY control is better than positive self control that appears to be directed by or controlled by others. My brother has always had this reaction to life so when he refused to wear a mask and made up crazy reasons to support his decision I wasn't surprised. Fortunately,he has learned that he doesn't have to destroy his things or drag others into HIS delusions for him to be in control so his refusal to wear a mask meant he didn't go out in public wear one was required or expected.

@HMan I feel for you, my wife doesn't go as far from home as your wife has gone but I found myself feeling more and more anxious about her choosing to go shopping etc. It's not like the zombies are wondering the streets but a man like to know his family is home safe.

Yeah I am worried Every time my wife has to get up and go to her 5 day a week job.. I offered to go back and let her stay home but she told me she would go completely nuts staying home.. I worry that today will be the day she comes into contact with someone and she test positive but I know she takes all the measures to stay safe that she can... The person that owned the store I went to is one of those people who thinks the virus is fake and she said that she didn't know anyone who had gotten it..She was actually very rude..

Part of my extreme stress about COVID is because the facility my mom is in has cases. I've noted the last few times I talked to her, that she's sounded very off. I was concerned and called the facility to speak to someone. I won't go into all the details, but they have withheld that my mom HAS COVID-19.

Apparently she's asymptotic, well not exactly, because I knew something was wrong. I just can't believe that they didn't tell me. I found out from someone outside of the facility a few seconds ago.

Thank you guys for having this place to vent, it's keeping me sane.

Well the numbers for this virus came in and we got almost another 1400 cases today.
We also had over 50 more deaths and now my state and the state above me are implementing evacuation routes because of this latest hurricane...

Praying for safety.

The State just released the fact that every county will receive a green light for school. This means that every school has the option to hold in person classes.
Here are the 6 major guidlines:
6 Requirements for Safely Opening Schools in the Fall
  • Symptom Screening Before Coming to School - Students (parents/caregivers) and staff members must conduct self-checks for symptoms prior to boarding buses or entering school buildings each day. Schools should provide information to families in their primary language to support them in conducting this check. Any person showing symptoms must report their symptoms and not be present at school. Schools must provide clear and accessible directions to parents/caregivers and students for reporting symptoms and absences.
  • Physical Distancing and Facilities -Adults must maintain 6 feet of distance from others to the extent possible. Maintaining 3 feet of distance is acceptable between and among students when combined with the other measures outlined in this list of safety requirements. 6 feet of physical distancing is required for students while eating breakfast and lunch, as students will be unable to wear masks at that time. A “medical isolation room” (separate from the nurse’s office) must be designated for students/staff who exhibit COVID-19 symptoms during the school day. Adequate ventilation is required for classrooms, with schools having flexibility in implementation such as using properly working ventilation systems or outdoor air exchange using fans in open windows or doors.Groups in any one area, room, or classroom must not exceed the Governor’s gathering size limits.
  • Masks/Face Coverings - Adults, including educators and staff, are required to wear a mask/face covering. Students age five and above are required to wear a mask/face covering that covers their nose and mouth. (Updated 7/31/20) Masks are recommended for children ages two to four, when developmentally appropriate. (Updated 7/31/20). Masks/face coverings must be worn by all students on the bus.
  • Hand Hygiene - All students and staff in a school must receive training in proper hand hygiene. All students and staff must wash hands or use sanitizing gel upon entering the school, before and after eating, before and after donning or removing a face mask, after using the restroom, before and after use of playgrounds and shared equipment, and upon entering and exiting a school bus.
  • Personal Protective Equipment - Additional safety precautions are required for school nurses and/or any staff supporting students in close proximity, when distance is not possible, or when student require physical assistance. These precautions must at a minimum include eye protection (e.g., face shield or goggles) and a mask/face covering. Classrooms and/or areas that have been used by an individual diagnosed with Covid-19 must be closed off until thorough cleaning and sanitization takes place.
  • Return to School after Illness - Sick staff members and students must use home isolation until they meet criteria for returning to school.

Let me just add to my post above.. I'm so glad we homeschool. I cant imagine making my kid do the things listed.

When asked what happens if there is a positive in a school. They said that basically send everyone home for 2 weeks and then open again.
