Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

So happy to hear that Sadie is doing well! There is nothing more important in this world then children.

Wonderful news!

Thanks!

Great shave. I am glad everything went well. Keep us in the loop.

Thanks Doug!

With those tubes in Sadie should start to feel better very soon.

Actually my wife and I were both commenting how she was acting significantly more happy yesterday evening. Doc did say when putting the tubes while not infected there was a lot of fluid. He said to her everything probably sounded like it was under water, and she had constant pressure in her head. These tubes should really help her out a lot!

Great news, Chad!! Thanks for keeping us posted.

Thank you!

Great news!! Glad to hear that everything was routine.

Thanks Josh.

So happy to hear that Sadie is doing well! There is nothing more important in this world then children.

Amen Don!

Well on deck today is a favorite scent of mine from HeV. What a great scent. I absolutely love it, and it is in my top 5 scents for sure. I highly recommend this soap for scent alone, but thankfully the performance is also very good. With HeV it always starts out a little bubbly for me, but with a little extra work I am always rewarded with an excellent lather that provides a great shave. And today was no different BBS+ for sure.

Well Sadie is recovering really well. Honestly you wouldn't even think she had surgery. Hard to believe that she did. She came out of anesthesia very easily, they try really hard to get the parents in the room right when the baby starts stirring, which can usually take up to 30 min after the procedure is over. Sadie started waking up while they moved her from the OR to recovery room, so they were rushing us back there so the first thing Sadie would see is mom and dad. We barely made it. She cried a tiny bit, ripped off the oxygen and cries out momma! The nurses gave the okay to Megan to pick her up, an
d boom she was back to normal! All was good! A huge shout out to the nurses and staff at the Primary Children's Hospital here in Utah, they treated us well, and even though it was a simple procedure in retrospect, they were very comforting and understanding that even though this is routine it is still scary for mom and dad. In fact my wife cried when they took her back, a nurse stayed with us the whole 20 min while she was away from us, just helping comfort Megan. I have a lot of complaints about the medical system and the way things are ran. But I definitely do not have a problem with the nurses, staff, and doctors who go out of there way to ensure that everything is as comfortable as possible. So a follow up appt in 6 weeks to make sure everything is placed well, and to do a hearing test. But with how good Sadie was acting already I truly believe we made the right decision.

This evening is election night for the Knights of Columbus, this time tomorrow I might be the Grand Knight. Oh boy!

Have a great day Cadre.

Glad to hear that the procedure went well - that's great news!! And I'm keeping fingers crossed for your election.

I'm just now circling back to your journal Chad. Sorry I missed yesterday. Two very excellent Feather SS shaves there man.

Regarding our healthcare system, what is wrong with it is the system. The people providing the care, for the most part, are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is always hard on mom and dad, and pediatric care givers understand this. My experience is that they go above and beyond, every day, to give the most complete care that they can to not only the patient, but to the family as well. I am so glad everything went smoothly, and that Megan (and dad) was there when she woke up. Hoping that she is amazed at how well she feels going forward, with a "this is the best day yet" attitude each and every day.

It is always nice when you get good service and treatment.

Good luck on the election.

Good deal Chad. Gotta love kids. I think I've said it in the journals before, but when I was training students and new nurses, I would always tell them "Kids will bounce back from almost anything. Your job is not to screw things up while they get better."

Good luck tonight. You'll have to let us know the proper way to address you!

Good shave today Chad, and outstanding news regarding Sadie! C&CC is a great scent for sure, but the soap base doesn't perform quite as well as others. Still a solid soap with a phenomenal scent! Good luck tonight with the election!

Thanks Walt and I agree with your sentiments. Honestly starting to feel bad we didn't do the ear tubes sooner as the changes already seem to be for the better for her.

It is always nice when you get good service and treatment.

Good luck on the election.

Thanks Don

Thanks Dave. And I hope that is common practice in training for medical professionals that are working with kids. The staff yesterday was truly wonderful, and ensured that Megan and I fully understood everything that was happening to Sadie.

As to how to properly address me assuming I win I am going to ask the council to call me, "Chad 'cooler than that Dave guy in Arizona' Vargo"

Thanks Josh, and yes I agree the HeV is not the best soap out there but it is a solid Tier 2 soap. Which for me means buy if the scent is great/unique.

I am glad everything is well with Sadie! Good luck with the election man!

Thanks Tom!

Great news on Sadie. When I was being trained, they emphasized that you never just have only the kid as a patient. You also have the parents. If you keep the parents happy and calm, the kids will be.

You got this election in the bag.

Great couple of shaves with some excellent soaps, Chad. Great to hear that everything went well with Sadie.

Straight Shave #187

Razor: Feather SS
Blade: Feather ProGuard (3)
Soap/cream: Noble Otter Lonestar
Brush: TSC Legacy Brush
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Noble Otter Lonestar

Well today I used a sample set sent to me by Shaver Danger (Don), Thanks for sending this to me. I have heard a few things about Noble Otter and have been looking forward to giving it a go. So I went into this not knowing what the scent description was, but to my nose it is very sweet, and according to Don's review this morning I can see why I came to that conclusion. There is a hint of leather that rounds it out, and this scent actually reminds me of Soap Commander's Fortitude, in fact they are VERY similar, I wouldn't be surprised if they perhaps use the same EO/FO supplier. Anyways the soap. When using samples I always use my Captain Choice bowl, and prefer to use a synthetic brush so I grabbed the TSC Legacy Brush. The lather started out a little airy, so I added a little extra water and kept at it. The lather started to come together and developed a nice shine to the lather. While shaving I was very impressed at how slick this soap was. Which is perfect for a straight shave. The lather was stable for all 3 of my passes, which is exactly what I need. After one use I can tell this soap is definitely a top tier soap. Is it elite? Well time would have to tell. Initial impressions lead me to place this soap in a Tier 1 Box 3. It is definitely worthy of another couple of uses and I will be browsing the Noble Otter website to see what other scents are offered by this company.

The aftershave was unique. When I sprayed some in my hands (Don put into an atomizer) I felt the scent was practically non-existent, so I I added a couple more squirts, and applied again. Still felt it was non-existent... so I treated it like a cologne and did the dottie method. Now that I am at work I can definitely smell it! Perhaps I got a little carried away LOL. Oh well it does smell nice.

***Warning reading beyond this point you will be reading some personal religious opinions, and point of views***

Okay well now that the warning is out of the way. I can discuss the KOC meeting yesterday. First off I will say it did not go as planned at least to my perspective. However, I believe in a higher power so perhaps this is what was supposed to happen. Our council is sadly divided right now which is causing a lot of internal problems, and many people are developing an us vs. them mentality. Looking around the room I knew the vote would be close, and it was going to come down to speeches. The current grand knight went first and focused on how "the other side" has worked against him, and how he has been a knight for 40 years and this is HIS Council. No one can take it away from him. A bunch of mine, me, and I statements. I am a national Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate champion, and won state in high school 3 years in a row. I have also ran political campaigns, and was a speechwriter for awhile. Anyways when it was my turn I set my speech to the side and spoke from the heart. I talked about how the division needs to go away, and this isn't one person's council this is OUR Council and we MUST come back together. I didn't want to talk negatively about my opponent because at the end of the day he is in the same order that I am in. I would not stoop down to his level. We had 45 brother knights in attendance. A few state officers visiting because they understand where our council is and what is happening. 39 where eligible to vote. For some weird reason 2 abstained from voting and I lost by one vote.

Cadre I am hurt, I really thought this is what God wanted me to do, and truly believed that I could unite my council and get rid of the division that is tearing us apart. But apparently it was not meant to be. I have felt sick to stomach ever since the vote happened. I then ran unopposed as the Deputy Grand Knight and won obviously, so now I have another year where I have to somehow help this guy pull his head out of his you know where and actually try and lead this council. I guess we never truly know what God's plan is, but I will not give up on my church, my parish, or my council. I need some time to get over the results but I will come out of this stronger than ever. I am not used to losing elections. I can go all the way back to elementary school, Jr High, High School, College, and all the way up to the 3 political campaigns I have ran as a campaign manager; I have NEVER lost an election before EVER! I guess there is a first time for everything and I am learning.

Have a good day Cadre!

Nice shave and initial impressions of the soap, Chad.

On the KOC stuff, I think you're looking at it from the right perspective. HE is not going to throw something at you that you cannot handle, and at the same time, will not set you up for failure. Perhaps your burden will be, as you stated, to help this man remove his head from his fourth point of contact and help move your council forward in unity. Continue doing what you are doing by leading by example, and things will turn in your favor at some point soon. Keep your head up, brother, better times are ahead!

A winner’s shave Chad, even though it may not feel like it much.

I’m sorry to hear that things didn’t go as planned. Even though you didn’t win, it has brought a truckload of issues up to the surface for your council to ponder for the next few months as the new term kicks off for the incumbent.

Forgive me Cadre, I also am going to go on a spiritual tangent here...

This guy knows now how close he is to loosing his place as leader and hopefully see in time that he has some heart issues to work on, that should push him extra hard to improve. You’ll be there too, not simply watching over his shoulder, but to help guide in a patient and loving manner, in a unique position to continue to try and mend what has happened and help this guy find his sense of true Christian service once more. I’m glad you aren’t giving up! Until the next vote, it’s time to work with and together! The path of our discipleship under Christ is a tough road, a constant struggle of humbling our own will and selfish desires, but in the end we can be confident that God will be glorified through it all.

Thanks for shaving your burden Chad!

Sorry to hear that Chad. There seems to be a current of support for those that "talk tough" like it's something people should be proud of. Things will run their course and one way or another it will be shown that continue to be successful in any time of leadership that involves large groups, you can't alienate half of them. I personally can't understand listening to someone claiming ownership of community or claiming they are the only ones that can possibly do a certain job, and then feeling any type of support for that. I suppose one message is, we end up in life where the journey takes us and not where we plan to go.

Sorry to hear about the election. He wanted you in the position you are in for a reason. Whether it is to assist bringing this guy back to where he should be, or just getting others to see the folly of his ways, or some other reason. I am not one to even guess to know His method. Just know that this is where He wants you at this time.
