Pre-Shave Lather / Hot Towel & Rinse / 15 Laps TM linen / 50 laps TM Strop

Post-Shave: Lucky Tiger Aftershave Salve / Cold Towel & Rinse

Westholme Fast Draw

Modified Gold Dollar 13/16
DeRuiter Custom PJ
THB Mr. Hyde Shave Soap
THB Mr. Hyde Aftershave
THB Mr. Hyde Edt

This was my 1st use of the 2nd component of the "Dr. Jeckyll & MR. Hyde" gift set from The Holy Black. I must say I was completely underwhelmed. I am a big fan of THB and the Jeckyll was on point, but this was just Meh at best. Of course the performance was spot on, but the fragrance was so linear in nature, frankly, it was boring. AMBER, AMBER, AMBER that was it. None of the Dark Smoky raw vetiver I was expecting. Sad, Sad, Sad.

for Halloween I will be combing the two, but will most definately be using an 80/20 mixture as the Amber wants to be the star.

3 passes, DSBBS, Aftershave meh, EdT, a bit better but still an amber smack in the face, nothing else.

Set-up:

It's really a shame that these scents didn't live up to expectation. Do you think THB are getting a little too big for their britches and are kind of "phoning it home" now?

I received my J&H box yesterday. On initial sniff I enjoyed both...... but really, really enjoyed the Hyde scent!

but the fragrance was so linear in nature, frankly, it was boring. AMBER, AMBER, AMBER that was it.

I was reading the scent description and it says "Almost imperceptible hint of amber".

I also noticed that your EdT bottle is different from mine.

Good stuff Dave. A straight Amber scent doesn't seem right. Hope the mixing worked better!

Thanks Guys, and yes it was all amber if there was Raw vetiver in my batch it left the building. Dr. Jeckyll is wonderful, and after mixing....well please see me journal entry for Oct 31's shave. and Don I think it is a quality control issue, the products are solid, however to me the consistency between products lacks a bit. Lavender Creeper was perfect, Tangerine Creeper was nice, but problematic in the aftershave, soap is great, in DJMH the J is amazing the H not so much. I will give them a break as they are a relatively small operation, and are seeing some growing pains, as on the barber side there products are in high demand

They are all different KJ, as they pick up what poison bottles they can and refurbish, part of the uniqueness of each set

Behind on a few entries:

Jerry Stark 6/8 Kamisori
Rubberset 400-4 / TGN finest
THB Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde Shave Soap
THB Dr. Jecky & Mr. Hyde Aftershave
THB Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde
Edt

Was excited to finally mix DJMH to see if the hype was worth the cost of admission on a mixology standpoint..... FAIL. It should be noted I LOVE DJ and the soap when mixed does allow Jeckyll to still have an identity, but it ends with the soap. Don't get me wrong the performance is fantastic on all fronts, but even with an 80/20 mix of the aftershave and EdP's "The Monster" takes over and an AMBER monster it is. As mentioned earlier I detect no Vetiver in any way shape or form in Mr. Hyde, at least in my batch. The shave was good, but post shave and fragrance was a let down. I like Hyde, but my nose, I guess has become a snob, as the scent is way to linear and plain for me. I like complex scents.

It should be noted that I do notice the complexity in Dr. Jeckyll.

Anyway the Stark Kami make quick work of my beard in 3-passes DSBBS, and a less than happy application of DJMH AS and EdP. Where Amber ruled the day. I Like amber........mixed with other items, this, even mixed was a let down. Sorry THB.

Set-up:

Hope you all had a safe and Happy Halloween

Dorko 1151 6/8
Sorrentino "Barzini No.1" / Tuxedo Synthetic
The Chamber Shave Company "Black" Shave Soap
The Chamber Shave Company "Black" Aftershave Splash
Penhaligon's Elixir EdP

After yesterdays, less thank stellar performance, I was ready for a solid product shave. I know this will sound a bit bias, as I am affiliated with Chamber Shave Company, however as most of you know I review soaps and performance based on merit, not on any interest I have in the company. I am now closing in on over 450 soaps in the den ( not samples ) so many times it can be over a year before a soap gets back into rotation, and even longer if it is a seasonal combo.

Luckily I know this product from top to bottom and LOVE it. I look forward to the cool weather so I can use it. Being 39 degrees when I awoke, this was a perfect opportunity and with the upcoming release of the new flavors, even a better time to get reacquainted. Black is:
Egyptian Musk
Amber
Vanilla.

I know in a previous entry I was ambered out, however this is amber done RIGHT! with complexity, as is the Penhaligon's Elixir, which BTW smells just like the inside of St. Peter's Basilica, or any ornate Castle or Cathedral. It is amber done with COMPLEXITY, and is fantastic, as was the shave. The Dorko, aside from being my grail razor and one I waited for for over 4-years, it is also a wonderful performer, and slipped and slid around the "oily slick" soap for 3-passes.

It should be noted that is says "Cream" but it is really a hard croap. We will be discussing the misnomer and misconceptions regarding Hard Shave Soaps, Shave Creams, and Croaps in a Tutorial Video very very soon in hopes it will alleviate some of the confusion in some vendors nomenclature, please stay tuned for that.

The shave was DSBBS (g) today and the Aftershave splash followed by the EdP, should have made me go to Church, however I went to cut hair for the night shift instead, LOL

Hope you all had a Fantastic Thursday Gents

Well...at least the Dr. J & M. H aftermath shavexwas nice! Sorry the product was half a fail though...that’s gotta be pretty disappointing.

Interested to see Chamber up and running soon!

What a shame that the Jeckyll and Hyde wasn't what you expected. But with my aversion to most amber scented soaps i am glad I now passed on it. Although the bottles and presentation are AWESOME!

Also great shave with the Chambers.
