Hoping that this was an isolated migraine. Glad you are back in action.

Great shave today. I like the TI. Do the geometry problems make it difficult to hone?

Thanks Doug, they can present an issue when setting a correct bevel and you have to know where the issue is so when you are honing you place proper pressure on the right areas of the blade

Thanks for the info.

Well Dave, your Chris' Ark story inspired me. I got out my 3x12x1 Black Ark and decided to lap the opposite side to the one I've been using. First I lapped using 120 grit SiC, then 220, then 500. Then I went to 600, 800, 1,000, 1,200, 2,000 and finally 3,000 grit wet/dry. I stayed on the 120 until I got it almost completely flat across the entire stone. The last 7/8th of the stone shows some light coming under my Sterrett straight edge when I place it longitudinally. But horizontally, there is no light coming under the straight edge across the length of the stone. So I stopped there, and proceeded with the progression.

All wet/dry was done wet with the exception of the final 3K grit that was used dry until the grit filled up with stone, then I went wet with it. I got the chisels and burnished the surface for about an hour. I'm not sure that the surface is ready for a razor yet, but the surface is reflecting light pretty well.

STARDATE: AD:20180429 SR Shave #914 - In Shop Class & Shave
Pre-Shave Lather / Hot Towel & Rinse / 15 Laps Parker linen / 50 laps Parker Strop
Post-Shave: GCB Cedar Rose Balm / Cold Towel & Rinse
30-laps Trans-Ark Hone / 25 Parker Linen / 50 Parker Strop

Gem SE / EverReady SE / Schick Injector / Parker Shavette / Feather AC DX / Ralf Aust 5/8

Parker Black Silvertip
GCB Cedar Rose shave Soap / Aftershave Balm / Aftershave Splash

Provided a Shave Class today in the shop today:
Intro to SE / Shavettes / Straights.

So the shave was with all of the above razors, LOL Use of the GCB Cedar Rose provided a great base for all the different razors.

3 passes + cleanup, considering all the different blades and razors a nice BBS shave overall

( note this is the predicted outcome as my class is at 1300 hrs, LOL)

Will update if results warrant a different outcome, LOL

Set-up:

Have a good day folks

3 passes...6 razors...LOL...

Still, a BBS is a BBS! Love the sound of that soap scent, Dave.

I hope that your barbers appreciate the lengths to which you go to teach them the finer points of all of these fine shaving instruments. Sounds like fun either way you slice it.

Thanks Guys Hopefully it will end up that way ( BBS that is ) I see no reason why it wont, and Walt , thanks this is for the Barbers and General Public as well

Most razors used in a shave...ever lol. Love that set up as well. I am going to need to break down and order some of that Cedar Rose soon. It sounds like a fantastic scent.

LOL Right?

Nice set and picture Dave!

So how did the shave / class go?

{Craig wonders to himself just how long of a class it would be, I mean just to explain DSGWHCBBS would take at least 10 minutes right?

LOL Craig, Class went well , and was about an hour in length. The barbers are a bit more confident in using a real straight, but much more training is needed. Although AZ does allow the use of a real Str8 no schools have taught it in 30 yrs, mostly shavettes like most other states, so no concentration on upkeep and honing, so it will be a long road, but many have determined to use the feather system which makes a ton of sense, as it is the closest to a straight you will ever get, and a lot less hassle for a maintenance standpoint, not to mention with the Pro guards the chances of a customer getting injured diminishes greatly. So my goal is to get them using either method.

As to the general clients they loved the GEM style razors, and a few are leaning toward straights. I will be carrying our logo's TI 5/8's in the shop so I think we will sell a few as I am keeping the price point reasonable. the Customers could not believe the blade gaps in the GEms, , but I shaved one half with those, and then the other with the straights. It was nice to see some eyes opening to our hobby

Thanks

30-laps Trans-Ark Hone / 25 Higgins English Linen / 50 Westholme Fast Draw

RazoRock One X Shave Soap
RazoRock One X Aftershave Splash
Brut Special Reserve Cologne

Nice early morning shave before church today. Windy and Hot today, so a nice Italian Citrus was in order. I do not think anyone does inexpensive products better that RazoRock. They all have the Quality of the "Big Guys" at a price point that make it very attractive. Also with may of the soaps with the new formulary, they are T1 for me all the way around.

One X is a Citrusy, powdery nirvana that lathers well, shaves well, and finishes even better from the soap to the aftershaves. I do have my suspicions who makes some of these in Italy, but Joe is very tight lipped about it, and actually who cares, they are great!

3-passes with the German today and 3 good passes it was. With a tad of cleanup, my normal DSBBS was achieved easily bordering on a (G). Finished off with a liberal splash of the One X and about 6 Vasilli's of the Brut. A far cry from the Original Faberge formula, but a nice echo of the past, and always reminds me of dad.

Set-up:

Have a Blessed Sunday folks and look for the radio show being posted within the next few days or so

Great shave today, Dave! I really have to break down and get some of RR's new formula soaps...

Glad to hear the shave class yesterday was a success!
