A Razor Cannot Be "Efficient"

I haven't met a Tech I didn't like. I especially enjoy the Bakelite and Plastic Handle Techs.
Thanks @Techichi and @Dave in KY ... Now I have to find a plastic handle razor. Such enablers, lol.

Isn't these the same as any other 195* (US Tech) razor, just with a different handle... Or should I be looking out for some sort of specific design to the head? If I'm going to get one, I'd like it to be authentic.

Thanks.

As I stated I'm no expert. The heads may be the same and it's just the feel or weight/shape of the handle that makes it more comfortable to get the angles etc. I've just always loved the shaves from it when I used it. I've never done a shave comparison as some do. I suppose that would be something to consider in the future.........

lol...indeed! Although I don't recommend these unless you enjoy milder razors.

If I had to pick one, it'd be the WWII Bakelite handle with the triangular blade gaps. The more aggressive head design on the lighter handle. I suggest a sharp blade.

I guess this is now the Tech Appreciation thread?

I keep a tech in my Dopp kit. It's my go-to travel razor. I never have to worry about traveling, and know I'll always get a great shave from it..... and it somehting happens to it, it's easy to replace.

Tech, superthis, aristothat . . . . huh?

[don't feed the troll]
They are vintage shaving implements you acquire, use once or twice (and hopefully enjoy) then put in your collectors box and return to daily shaving with beautifully designed, tortoise shell clad straight razors. ...at least YOUR razors are clad in tortoise shell, mine are anything but tortoise shell.

This thread took a positive turn. A testament to the great people we have on TSC.

Watch this. ;)

It is MYTH that the pre-war Tech is more "aggressive" than post-war Techs. I have measured the blade gaps on pre-war, post-war, USA, Canadian & English. They are all the same at + or - 0.002" which are superb specs for the period. There is a theory, of which I am an adherent, that holds that the post-war Techs with their smaller oval slots have better blade rigidity.

Watch this 😂 Have you compared anything besides blade gap as that's only 1 variable that effects "efficiency/aggressiveness" ?

The exposure on all Tech models is essentially the same and only varies with the cap/baseplate thickness. Trust me, I'm a professional.

Well you measured the one thing (gap) but not the blade exposure or cap thickness or curvature, baseplate thickness............
This. It's been a point of discussion before how the angle of the blade itself in relation to the skin is a major player in aggressiveness. i.e. those head that put more of curve on the blade tend to be less aggressive than those that have less or no curve given the same blade gap.

And where is the best place to look for a post war tech?
Any suggestions?
I got mine in pretty nice condition from Etsy. I want to like it so bad... but it’s the only razor I have that always gives me irritation.

The bay usually has lots of them for cheap if you’re willing to clean it up.

Thank you

I will take a look there.

I am looking for something to hold the blade as rigid as can be for as inexpensive as possible.
