A Place for Deep Thought

Welcome to the journals! So sorry to hear about the loss of the furbaby.

Awesome, re: your love of HHG2G!! I was in high school, and our local NPR station played the BBC radio version on Saturdays, I think. Hooked for life! Found them on Audible last year or so, so am enjoying them again!
I might have to check Audible for that. I heard that the BBC version was excellent. Fell in love with the books ages ago, and still read them at least once every couple of years. I will quote them occasionally, which generally garners looks of "huh?".

The shave problem this mental midget (at least on the weekend!) is dealing with: nostalgia versus a better shave. I had just about made up my mind on next week's set up, then began to worry about the shave quality. My shaving notes from last summer, when I compared my Slim to the Karve for 2 weeks, showed that I consistently had minor irritations when using my Slim when getting the same closeness. For 2 years, my Slim was THE razor. I love it, it looks cool, and I like to think of all the men back in the 60s who may have used one before going to work at NASA in order to put a man on the moon! But on the Karve's first outing, I noted that the shave was as close or closer than the setting I typically used on the Slim, but felt mild and irritation free.

It boils down to me getting cold feet, I think, and not wanting irritation during a busy week with long, hectic hours (I get to work Black Friday, but that usually doesn't impact pharmacy too much, even when I did time in Wally World drug land). But this will be what I call my long week. So now I think, maybe push off the Slim to the week after. Another voice in my noggin says "life's too short for bad shaves, even if you love that razor!" And I tend to agree, mostly, which is why I sold off so many razors: why use a known biter when I can have a relaxing, drama-free, great shave with a lovely razor?! What problems to contend with, right?!

Those same voice roll round in my head from time to time but I don't do week long set ups................that would be hard for sure......

We think alike. One thing to consider though is your technique may be different now than before, and maybe you'll get comparable results with the two razors.

Broke out the open comb plate as I had 36 hours or more since the last shave. Good results, but I find that I don't like the teeth on the Karve plate as well as I'd hoped to. As a rule, I don't chase BBS, but instead want a Real Comfortable Shave, RCS. Back to the safety bar next time.

I think I feel the same way. The SB plates feel great, but the OC C plate that I have doesn't feel all that great. I might try a SB D plate before I try to move on from it completely.

You'll most likely laugh as the OC plate I have is A! [emoji16]

I recently received an almost new Rockwell 6C, in the original retail package. I was trying to give a RR Hawk to a guy who posted on another forum that he wanted one. He insisted on a trade, and rather than arguing with him, I gave in after mildly resisting for a couple of PMs.

I had been part of the Kickstart campaign for the 6C, used it for 3 months, then gifted it to a nephew.

Now I've got another!

What I'd like to do is get the razor into the hands of someone who could really use it, someone who may not know of it or maybe can't afford it. I know now, to me in my circumstances, the $50 price is not bad, given what I just paid for a SS Karve. But 4 years ago? I wouldn't dream of spending that kind of dosh on a toiletry item!

So I want to recruit help finding a good man to gift this to. If anyone knows of someone, send me a PM. I don't need details. I will trust a fellow Cadre member that they know a person who fits my wish.

Thanks for reading!
