2019 Shave # 43

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Sputnik (16)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Butterscotch Moe

Soap: Chiseled Face Easy Street
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Bootleggers Arctic Lime

Great shave with Easy Street this morning which website states has "notes of green tea, citrus, bergamot, rose, nutmeg, and ginger with hints of musk and woods to round it out." Topped it off with Arctic Lime as they were sold out of the Splash when I got the soap. Don't think it will be available ever again. Several emails to the owner have went unanswered so I've given up on getting the matching splash. Shame as I really dig this scent from them. Non of the scent notes appear like they'd be hard to source but it is what it is. Sputnik continues to provide a shave although requiring extra effort. I want to see this thru but sometimes ask myself, Why? Just to say I could stretch it? I will never do it again I know because.....................well, Why? When a blade isn't sharp anymore you can shave with it and get more life from it as we have seen with the Graham Field and the Assured Blades. But the shaves are sub par at best. I think I just talked myself out of pushing it. I want a good shave and will finish the month out with the Sputnik blades but bin after they are done for me. I don't need to brag about how long I can shave with a dull blade when it is possible but not enjoyable. Have a GREAT day Cadre !!

I think if you’re getting sub par shaves then you’ve pushed the blade far enough. At this point you know how many good shaves you can get out of it, so now you switch. Unless the point of the challenge is to just see how long you can suffer through a bad blade?

Preach it Dave! As I don’t have a tough beard I’m not as hard on blades as the average guy. I won’t endure a dull blade because frankly, I don’t have to.

You are correct. Easy Street is no more. I know TJ knows of some women's scent that is a match for it that you can use.

To be clear, I can shave and get close to what I want but it requires more strokes and more pressure and I don't see the point if the shave is training bad habits. I want a sharper blade.

Yeah, I've heard that. Just not sure why. Sourcing of materials? Not selling enough? I like this scent. In order of like I would say GTB, Easy Street and Sherlock would be my top 3. Oh well, I'll wear ladies scents when I start wearing tights like Don (sorry Don) but that ain't happening ???

Yup blades are cheap. But there is something satisfying about pushing one past it's normal use.

I know......I'm torn. I actually took the blade out and washed it clean, then gave it a palm strop and put it back in the razor in case I change my mind by the morning........

I would say there is really only one way to find out if it is still any good. Go for it
\n\nRemeber these words when you’re about to bin your blade this month

2019 Shave # 44

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Sputnik (17)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Harlequin Chief

Soap: Stirling Coconut Lime
Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla

Aftershave 2: Pinaud Clubman Original

After some coffee I got my 3 am shave on (IKR?) and to give the Sputnik 1 more chance I pulled out my RR glycerin Lime pre-shave to prep better. Went at it with the Stirling Coconut Lime and got a great lather going. The Sputnik is just not sharp. I had to go over and over places to get a decent shave. I have no irritation or weepers and hope I don't have irritation later (time will tell). Since I removed, cleaned and palm stropped the blade I will try another shave or 2 to see if it settles in and improves but I have my doubts. I'm really trying to take this one the distance as best I can. Topped it all off with Clubman because I was in the mood for powder. Have a great day Cadre !!

I can't believe you would sully that delightful smell of coconut lime with...Clubman...
