Brandon and Brendan are solid, and deeply cherished, friends as well as colleagues. They have gone the extra mile to stay in contact with me over the last decade and I have tried to do the same for them.

Life goes on


Shave Stuff
Trying to get back into an every other day cadence with my shaves. Today, for once, I got up early enough to shave before work. I am not a fan of the 8to5 shift, but I am getting used to it. Eventually it will be routine.

The shaves are good, when I get them. The Yaqi stainless razor is comfortable and about medium aggressive. The Institut Karite soap is absolutely fantastic. This is my first, and only, puck of it. I think this puck has been in my stash since 2016 or 2017. I wish I had tried it back then. I would have bought several before it got discontinued. This puck is going to last me a while, since it is a hard soap. Every shave with it has been fantastic so far. The soap loads easily after blooming the puck. It whips up easily into a nice lather that is very slick and quite protective. I really like this soap. The scent is also very mild and pleasant.


Other Stuff
Life is going well. I love my job. I am playing lots of Magic: the Gathering. My brother is getting married next week. Everything is great right now.

Shave Stuff
I am still not shaving regularly during the week. Today I was up early enough to do so before work. The Henson razor is a new acquisition. This was my second shave with it. The razor is good, although it is a bit too light with the all aluminum construction. I am used to stainless steel so one has to be careful not to apply too much pressure. The RK blade is decent. I am looking forward to trying other blades with the razor. I have no need to buy any of the RK blades, unless other blades don't fit the razor. The software is fantastic as always. It was a very good shave at BBS-.


Other Stuff
My brother's wedding at the beginning of November was nice. I got a few compliments on my best man speech. The Wilmington area was nice to visit. Overall it was a good trip.

We have another trip coming up in a few weeks. We are looking forward to that.

Still loving my new job. It is absolutely fantastic. I really, really hope that I am still with this company in 2034.

The weekend is off to a good start


Shave Stuff
I just acquired a Blackbird in machined stainless from Blackland. The Black Friday deal got me. The razor is hefty and solid. It is also a bit of a beast to shave with. I am completely BBS, but it did leave me with some irritation. It needs a lighter touch than I used today. But, it still was a fantastic shave. It is just going to require some getting used to.


Other Stuff
My weight is up a bit. I really need to work on that. Other than that life it really good. I am playing a ton of Magic the Gathering and loving my job. Things are going well right now.

The Blackbird works very well with a light touch. I am glad that I bought the long handle version. Holding it at the far end of the handle really helps. Today's shave was fantastic.

Today's Shave - 12/20/2025
No Shave

Overview
It has been a year and I have tried three times to write this update...

Shave Stuff
I have been shaving on Saturdays for the past year. It is nice, but I need to get back to an 'every alternate day' routine, but that would mean getting up early. Nothing to complain about as far as shave quality most of the time. Although, my last shave left me with a bunch of irritation around my mouth. I am continuing to work through the large pile of soap that I have acquired. I occasionally get the itch to buy more, but I have managed to hold myself back. Right now I am working through an old tub of PAA CaD. It is their old Kokum Butter formula which works fantastically for me.


Other Stuff
It has been too long since I updated this journal. Way, way too long.

I made a couple of things happen this year. First, I started learning the guitar. I am really, really loving it (both the learning and the gear acquisition). I am taking lessons and enjoying the experience. Second, I dropped out of almost all of my social activities. Back in January-ebruary I was getting fed up with all the negativity and near non-stop political hand wringing that I was hearing during many of my social activities. It was starting to weigh me down, so I withdrew. I needed a break, so I took it. Honestly, it has been nice. But, it also means that I haven't been a good friend to a large number of people, the Cadre included. So, I am going to try to be more active here and to reengage with some of my social activities. We'll see how it goes. I want to be a better friend.

My job is great. I am still in the same job that I started in mid-2024. I love it! It is the whole package. I am the happiest I have ever been in my professional career. I hope that this continues.

My wife is doing well. Her buisness is growing.

Life is pretty good. My weight is going back up, so I need to work harder on that. But, other than that I can't complain.
