Seriously I dunno dude. It seems like every time some sport tries to start up, it's not too long until you head about players and/or staff testing positive. Constantly close contact with heavy breathing...just insane.

Oh I know! Honestly I don't think it's going to happen. The NBA has created a bubble it seems to be working SO FAR! MLB well take at look two teams already shut down. Now go all the way down to High school! They can't afford to test everyone as often as they do. I really don't think the season is going to start. But like any profession officiating is political. So I am signed up and ready to try as I do not want to lose all the ground I have gained. But deep down I don't think the season is going to happen.

As most of you know I referee high school football and basketball, and am supposed to pick up some NCAA div III and Big Sky games this year. Obviously with corona virus everything is up in the air. As officials we have to use whistles which obivously can be a problem. Don't worry the #1 brand trusted whistle manufacturer released a mask designed to be used with a whistle.

I don't even know what to say, as if referees aren't heckled and yelled at enough they want us to wear these!

You found a mask for Cyrano!

Has anyone else noticed that sneezing while wearing a mask feels a lot like crapping with your pants on? Imagine having a ‘referee’ mask on when you sneeze, it would look like a party favor. ...and the rest of my comments have been self censored for to ensure compliance with all applicable state, federal and international decency laws.

Today is a bad coping day for me.

My wife has been on holiday, and though I don't like it, it's meant traveling around to see friends and family, using more public transportation.

A couple of days ago, she told me that she's going to have to fly to Lapland next week when she goes back to work. So I spent the morning looking for medically certified masks. Lapland has been the coveter of a number of outbreaks, since it's where people here go to holiday.

I've just tried to manage not feeling great about any of it.

Today, her sister is coming to town and they were planning to go to the cities most famous museum which will certainly be full of tourists etc.

That just did me in, I lost it. Mental states can just turn on a dime.

I know our numbers are comparatively good. Yet my wife and I had literally spent the morning talking about how people here are acting like nothing ever happened. She was even quoting an article in the paper about it. Other Europeans who come to visit have been vocally commenting on it. No masks, people don't even try to keep distance, etc.. So after that, hearing that, oh by the way, we're going into a crowded museum in an hour was too much.

Well I had my first incident concerning a mask yesterday.. I went to one of the local stores and had my mask on and upon entering was told "we don't allow those in here" it completely surprised me so I turned around and left.... Turns out the area she is in doesn't have a mask ordinance yet after I checked. I will not be returning to that store..

That's just ridiculous. So much for 'freedom'.

Prayers for safety.

I make it a habit of asking cashiers how they are doing and how people are treating them. I then thanks them for doing what they do.
All of the stories I hear are about masked people freaking out about non masked people. This is until yesterday. The cashier said she has been screamed at by customers because she was wearing a mask. She explained that her job required it but the man just called her a brainless sheep and continued to yell.
Now it is official.... both sides have lost it.

That sucks Cole. I often think how hard "doing the right thing" is even for folks that believe in it. You can't visibly see what we're avoiding. There is no evidence from day to day that we actually prevented being infected other than we feel fine. And even that doesn't mean as much as most people think it does. It's hard for everyone from time to time to think of themselves as the one that's not going to get sick and should be able to just do this or only do that. Sorry for the tension. I do keep thinking about the STD education we had in school waaaaaay back when and they would preach about sleeping with one person is like sleeping with everyone they were with too. Same goes for all this. I think it's hard for people to think past the person right in front of them and actually acknowledge they are being exposed to everyone that person has been around for the last 2 weeks. And so on and so on.
