@Dave in KY I look forward to your updates as you explore other topics. Flat earth, moon landing, vapor trails. Sounds like you could learn a lot!
Laugh but I learned a month or so back that one of my old clients was a firm believer in the flat earth thing (what is called? a thing? concept? hoax? I laughed when he made a snide comment about how the globe we'd given his grandchild contributing to the round earth hoax. Then I was informed via whisper HE is seriously a flat earth guy. My head began to run through ALL the absolutely stupid get-rich-quick ideas he'd fallen for and and the stupid things he'd done/said and the flat out obvious truths he'd fought me on and it all made sense. All I could do was smile and leave. I had his accounts moved out of my office the following monday, best we just end the fight before it ever began. and @NurseDave those vapor trails are CHEMtrails and they are filled with corona virus and stuff that makes us stupid.

Don't forget the tin foil hats too. Gotta block them government types from reading your brain waves or planting thoughts in your head... 😜

The earth is not flat. If it was, the cats would have pushed everything off by now! [emoji6]

About 22 percent of all covid 19 cases in my state are aged 21-30 . Our governor yesterday passed a new order stopping alcohol sales in bars and restaurants @11 pm. He said its time our young adults start acting like adults. He also stated if this doesn't help lower the numbers he will take further action...

The inpatient COVID population of my hospital system is approaching triple what is was with the last spike.
Our system in the state is at 75 percent capacity which is way more than its ever been before. Earlier I think the highest we got was between 8 to 18 percent..... This is crazy.... I hope something changes soon and the numbers go back down...... What I'm afraid of now is the fact they are wanting to open schools back up by the end of next month. I'm already checking into virtual schooling but it also makes me sad that the twins won't be able to have the school experience but its just not safe.... Also I know my oldest is ready to see his friends again but again its just not safe for him either.

I hear ya. At the school board meetings those that want to do physical schooling cite emotional and social health. Which is totally true, but risking physical health and an illness that spreads seems like a high price to pay which likely would end up as distance learning as soon as the first few cases hit the schools. Regardless, it seems to make sense at least starting with a good distance learning program since at some point it’s likely you’ll need to have one in place and it’s not something that can be thrown together and be well done.

Yeah they're looking at 3 or 4 different options here.
1..regular in person back to school.

2..dividing classes and part in school one day and the other part the next alternating. When not in person they would be virtual.

3.. Virtual until this is under control and then going to in person afterwards.

4.. Full virtual for the year..

The problem with full virtual classes is that even if this virus is gotten under control if you have committed to full virtual you can't change to in person...

Regarding virtual schooling. I switched my daughters to a virtual school 2 years ago so this whole debacle had no impact on their schooling other than canceling the many planned in-person events AND prom, grad-night and graduation for my older daughter. The purposefully designed virtual schools normally include plenty of field trips and there are a number of localized parent meet-ups to allow a lot of the social aspects. Of course NOW those are on hold and certainly going to be modified but since the schooling and social/physical are normally separate concerns they can be dealt with separately going forward. In my girls case they both excelled and had plenty of meaningful interaction with the teachers (pleural, they had multiple teachers but one primary touch point) and even had direct phone calls as they felt necessary. Again, my kids were able to devote a lot of time to school and completed tasks well in advance of when they were due so they Were able to keep going ahead instead of waiting on the “classroom” to catch up.
A good virtual school can be a good fit for a family, especially if your family has someone at home to act as a surrogate teacher/teacher’s aid. My kids had become able to self start and follow a schedule but having a parent/teacher there to work along side them and offer assistance and guidance on the spot is a great enhancement.

Education and the merits of different styles of delivery is another subject that gets people all lathered up...so many opinions and facts thrown around. We all have an interest in a well educated society but in the end the clock keeps ticking and all that matters is how YOUR child fairs.

...based on the last conversation I had with my son they were considering a version of #2. I think there was some concern over the fact the governor wanted to start school EARLIER this year to catch up for lost time and the #2 option was the operating assumption. Now that it looks like earlier school starts aren’t likely they may put more thought into the plan. Truth be told, our local district “starts” August 2nd but they don’t know what starting means yet.

I think they want to go with the part of the class on alternating days here but I am honestly to scared to send my child back or start my other kids in school until they get a vaccine but I don't want to force him or them to be all year online either by just enrolling him / them in virtual for the year but it looks like here its either going to be one or the other..they don't look like they are gonna give us an option to start them in virtual and then let them go back when a vaccine is available.....

See my problem is my oldest has done well online and in person.. He is one of those kids that all the teachers love and he gets along with almost all the kids in the school too and he misses the interaction with others. I mean the principal of his school even came out every morning to open the door for my oldest because they get along so well.... I hate to take that experience away from him......

I think ours is supposed to start on the 17th. But registration is the end of this month and they haven't made any decisions on how school is going to go so they are not giving us much time to figure out what we are gonna do for our kids as parents. If they would just go ahead and decide something then it would give us all a chance to make a decision also...

That’s a tough one. My youngest (11yrs now) was definitely well engaged at her physical school and had life easy there, lots of playground buddies and all that. So deciding to pull her was not easy, but we had put it off a year already. We had definite academic reasons to make the jump and it was either virtual or skip grades and stuff like that (a real fight even with my connections and friendships). I won’t lie, that in person special stuff is gone. She has developed relationships with teachers via the video rooms, telephone, chat and few in person visits. Those relationships are real to her and the teachers and they involve actual communication, so I consider them positive. But we work harder to create the playground connections.

Seems so far away when you say AUGUST but we are already 11 days into July... it’s too late to plan on buying clothes for your kids, everyone is going to be sending them in fuzzy pajamas and slippers. Or hazmat suits.
