J. S. Bach - Goldberg Variations BWV 988
Glenn Gould - 1981

Yes, I know the 1955 recording of Glenn playing the Goldberg Variations is the definitive version; however, I find the more "seasoned" and musically "mature" interpretation by Gould in the 1981 recording (a year before his death in 1982) to be the better for my tastes. It is much more relaxed and allows for SPACE that is not present in the 1955 performance, while still yielding FIRE when called for! Miles Davis KNEW the importance of that SPACE in music!

J. S. Bach is JAZZ loooooong before jazz was ever conceived as a recognized art form! Theme, variation, alternate articulation, syncopation, improvisation,... SWING,... it's all in there!
