Yeah, I was fortunate although at the time I thought it was misfortune that my parents forced me into learning how to play various instruments and I didn’t fall in love with the Dobro or the banjo till later in life, but having the foundation of guitar and base certainly helped Now it is the great stress reliever. Now the mandolin is my next goal. This is why I am telling myself over and over things like: "this is not a collection", "one and done", "we only have room in the house for one musical instrument".
If we ever move to a house with more space, maybe I can start collecting guitars and other instruments. However, I really don't have the space for it in our current house.
EDIT:
I also need to learn how to play before I can get any value out of such a collection. That is going to take me some time, so it doesn't make sense to start collecting until I am a proficient guitarist.
Watches take a lot less space. Just sayin'....However, I really don't have the space for it in our current house.
No such thing........Even Eddie Van Halen had a guitar teacher.until I am a proficient guitarist.

Yes, Eddie Van Halen had a guitar teacher. He was also a grand master guitarist at the time of his death. I will never be at his level. I will certainly never be a professional guitarist. But, his level went far, far, far beyond mere proficiency with the guitar.
By proficient I meant competent. I.e. having enough knowledge and experience to learn songs and play them in such a way that people listening to me enjoy my playing.
