Okay, anyone that knows me, knows that I am a big fan of documentaries and docuseries about cults. I LOVED watching the Vow on HBO. HBO Max has a new docuseries called "The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin." According to HBO Max,

"After rising to fame with her Weigh Down Workshop, a Christian-based diet program that preached slenderness as next to godliness, Gwen Shamblin Lara founded the Tennessee-based church. Despite a carefully curated image, Lara and the church soon fielded accusations of emotional, psychological, and physical abuse, and exploitation for their alleged cult-like practices. Encompassing years of investigation and extensive interviews with former members and others personally impacted, THE WAY DOWN explores the legacy of Remnant’s infamous leader –whose life came to a shocking end after a plane crash in May 2021."

I watched the first episode, and yeah...this is right up my alley. As a bonus...Gwen Shamblin has massively huge hair!

I’ll have to check it out - it’s funny - just yesterday this came up on my YouTube feeds

For my part - since Ted Lasso jumped the shark this season I‘m looking forward to HBO Max Succession Season 3

My kids can’t wait for Stranger Things Season 4 on Netflix

Finished watching Squid Games…craziness! Fairly interesting story overall. Not too drawn out. Some predictable stuff. Good ending? Ehhhh jury is still out on that one.

I feel there’s room for a second season, they definitely set up the possibility…don’t know how much story is left though.

@GearNoir, absolutely not the best thing i ever watched, but novel and yes predictable to a point.

Did you like the OG Oldboy movie better? My wife kept telling me squid was too close to hunger games

If its that predictable then I may not like it because usually I figure out most shows in the first minute or 2.. I like finding shows that surprise me , which are rare......

I am pretty sure the overall plot isnt too surprising as it unfolds, but the unfold actually is and its not a deus ex machina resolution

I don’t think I’ve seen Oldboy as of yet, may have to now!

I didn’t necessarily get a Hunger Games vibe from Squid Games, though I can see where she would now that it’s been mentioned.

I saw the original Old Boy and it was pretty darn good. One of the few movies that actually surprised me.

Also I saw that the following place is supposed to have more accurate subtitles if that is a problem you are encountering..

I read through the the article on translation issues, i honestly dont think it was that much of an issue given what they are talking about and what i understood when watching. I clearly understood ali’s stuff and the best friend relationship discussed without the needing to change the translation.

Yes but if they had put something like "Master" instead of "Sir" it would have had more meaning and saying call me "brother" would have made the betrayal More dramatic like it was meant to be. according to the article...

Gonna start this soon....

Looks like it might be interesting.. It has been described as Lost meets Jurassic Park....

hmm.. i don't how much more feeling it needed, it was awful to watch the betrayals in both situations..

Yes but think of how much MORE Awful it would have been with the proper translations... From what I have read , it was meant to be worse but the translations didn't convey it....
