There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

Indeed, save the razor and beat them with the soap.

This guy gets it!
Check out Robeson Razors. They are a great too. I have a couple.

I have one on the way now that I found on the extra cheap lol. It looks like a bellied grind, and seems like it'll need very little work to make it purty. Darn enabler...
Skin Bracer is a great companion to a lot of frags but it does deserve to shine on its own some times! Nice one Eric!

It is one of the classics. The scent never lasts for long, but it does evoke childhood memories.
There are days I wish I had very dense puck of soap to unleash on a few employees at work. Maybe I should keep a puck in my desk...

You could always put it in a sock and reenact the beatdown scene from Full Metal Jacket.
You can put an eye out with the old Fine soap pucks.
I imagine that one of those slipping out of your hands could go right through a window as well.

Razor
: Filarmonica Sub-Cero 14 JMP
Brush: Switchback w/APShave Gelousy fan
Soap: CBL ?Coloniali
Aftershave: CBL After Shave Tonic
EDP: Robert Graham Valour

I can't seem to stay away from this Fili, and I wanted to see if the edge I put on it was as good as I thought or if the last shave was a fluke. I grabbed a sample that was sent by @CBLSoap.com for this shave. It's a recreation of the Icoloniali scent, which is one of my favorites. Funny thing about the shave soap. When I got it I could smell the scent very easily, but once I mashed it into the tub it was diminished considerably. Then a good bit of it came back while I was lathering lol.

This razor clearly had some restoration work done on it. There is a bit of very mild pitting on the back, and there is some tarnish on the front, particularly in the gold wash. She may not be the prettiest girl at the ball, but she can dance! This is my largest razor, and yet it feels incredibly comfortable in my hand as well as intuitive to use. Three passes and a bit of clean up gifted me with a fantastic BBS. The edge was sharp and smooth, and there wasn't even a whisper of burn from the alum block. A bit of the tonic and a couple sprays of Valour and I was in my happy place. Absolutely LOVE this juice! Valour is a definite cool weather favorite. I think it might be disontinued, and have considered picking up one of the 8.4 oz bottles before it's gone forever.

Well, the guy I was working with on midnights who injured his hand was just released from restriction. I was given the option of starting day shift again on Monday during a safety meeting last night, but opted to stay on midnights for another week. We were told that next week will be pretty slow, and it gives me a chance to learn more from the best roller guy in the shop, which will benefit both me and the company more in the long run. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Razor
: Ragg Paragon/Rockwell 6c
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Soap: CBL Orion Hammam Spa
Aftershave: CBL After Shave Tonic
EDC: Penhaligon's Savoy Steam

Ok, so disregard the date on the previous shave. That was my 3/4 sotd and midnight shift has distorted my view of what day/date it is. I grabbed the King of the Den for today's(yesterday's?) shave, though there are a couple other straights that will vie for the title now. Might have to do a shootout when they are all properly honed. One of CBL's masterpieces was brought out for this shave. Chris's Orion base is downright outstanding, and I can't get enough of this scent.

I don't remember what the Paragon was honed on(just another reason I need to start a honing journal), but the edge was pretty normal for what I'm able to achieve these days. Which is to say that it is a good edge, but not great. I called an audible halfway through the third pass and brought out the 6c for my neck, which is what I'll probably start to do more often. It seems that unless I'm using the sharpest of straights I can't seem to get BBS on my neck without some tugging and nicks on the ATG pass, probably due to the fact that my neck hair(like so many others around here) grows in about 15 different directions. A wonderful BBS was achieved and the combination of the Orion soap and the After Shave Tonic had my skin feeling amazing. I hefty dousing of Savoy Steam was just the right way to top off an excellent shave, and I left the den a happy man.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

You do have a lot of beautiful straights. Kind of makes me want to go out and buy more. Or at least have a couple of mine restored.

No shave today, as sheer laziness set in and I wanted to see how deep of a butt imprint I could put in my favorite chair. Today's Mail Call comprised of a lot of 10 straight razors that I got on an auction site for about $20 each. All except maybe 2-3 should be pretty easy to restore, if they need it at all. These are my favorite 5.

Genco Fluid Steel in very nice shape
oRqIFBal.jpg

A D.J. Faour & Bros with some light etching on the blade. A mans face and the name Joseph Bey Karam. Makes me curious about the history here, and I probably won't do more than give it a light polish since I don't want to fade the etching any more than it already is.

Imagine my surprise at finding a piece of Swedish steel in there. An Erik Anton Berg.

A JA Henckels 401 in excellent condition.

A Kraut & Dohnal Best Silver Steel in great shape with some beautiful(and deep!) etching on the spine and face.

Nice haul Eric. They are all nice. But the Genco, Henckels and Kraut razors are minty. Love that a German made razor is a Kraut. That's the icing on the cake. Purrty too. With the red fill in the stamping on the Henkels I'd be tempted to dress it up in red/ red translucent scales.
Look forward to them being put to use and your thoughts.

Some real beauties in the Eric! Nice finds!
Thanks Chris!

Lol Kraut had me giggling a little. And yes, I think the Henckels will get some new scales, either red or blue. I'm not sure yet.

These are the other 5

I think this Torrey might be one of the two that may not be restorable, as there is some rust right on the edge.

This C-Mon is the other, though I do love the scales.
Ihr9woGl.jpg

A Bauer with some really cool(bone or ivory?) scales.
MuyG0ZOl.jpg

A Boker Radium. It looks like someone with more enthusiasm than sense tried to restore it, as there are some around 1-1.5k circular sanding marks on it and the etching is clearly very faded.

And a near wedge with horn scales. Says Mycock & Comp Warranted Razor Sheffield on it. The scales are in surprisingly good shape for horn. The horn scales on almost every vintage razor I've ever picked up have been in such bad shape that they're usually scrap.

That was a ready made well rounded collection of razors there Eric. Different countries, makes and grinds. Good show. Before you spend time doing anything on the Torrey. See what the edge looks like under the loupe after a bit of honing. If you can get to good steel and get a shaving edge. Then you won't be polishing up on a dud. If thats the only one. You still done real good partner. ;)

The scales on that C-Mon are really cool.
The blade might be salvageable. I hope so. If not maybe I'll put those scales on my C-Mon Blackie.

Thanks Ken! Yeah, Both the Torrey and the C-Mon are going on the bevel setter to see if I can make them work. Hopefully something can be done with the edge, but if not I still came out ahead.
Though I'm not into straights, that's a nice haul!
Thanks Bruce!

Razor
: Simmons Hardware No 8 Special
Brush: TSC 2n Anniversary
Soap: Panna Crema Nuavia Verde
Aftershave: Fine Italian Citrus

DE0f3f5l.jpg

Yesterday's shave. A very nice 3 pass BBS with a truly fantastic soap. Followed it up with a hefty glug of Italian Citrus. As with most Fine aftershaves, no frag is really required, and I basked in the scent of this juice for hours.

I posted in the razor forums asking about opinions on a higher end DE and SE a while back. Many responses were given, and @DeepSea offered to send me both an O.R.E.N. and a Vector to test out and see which one I might like. They came in the mail today, along with some Schick ProLine blades, and I'm excited to do my own shootout with these razors. Many thanks, @DeepSea! I'll be posting first impressions and sotd updates with each one as I put them through their paces.

In the interest of full disclosure, I already ordered an O.R.E.N.. They were back in stock and on sale so I couldn't pass it up. That was right before I started my sabbatical(or restraint of you prefer to call it that), but I'm still excited to give the vector a go and see if it's something I'll be pulling the trigger on next year.
