West Coast Shaving Chypre | Feather SS Kamisori | Feather Pro-Guard (3)
Currently on Shave #608 | Straight shave #374

I actually got my computer at work up and running again, so journal posts can resume, as well as catching up on everyone else’s journals. Video’s are going to be another venture, as those have to be watched outside of the office. Looking forward to getting caught up with what everyone has been doing however!

Very nice shave today with West Coast Shaving’s latest release in Catie’s Bubbles Luxury Cream base. Chypre is one of my favorite scent profiles, so this was understandably a very enjoyable shave. The Feather Kamisori with the Pro-Guard Blade did its job well, only catching me around the adam’s apple when I came in a little steep, alum closed it up no issues. Three passes left me with a nice DFS, with very little alum sting. Topped off with some honestly needless post-shave in Omega Aquae serum, Paladin unscented and the complimentary EdT Le Grand Chypre to round out a very nice shave.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

I’m not entirely sure you used enough different products today. Good to see you enjoyed the new WC soap/cream.

I know owner Dave likes the Omega Aquae serum as well. I've toyed around with getting it a time or two. Would you say it's better than any other post shave balm or just different?

It's different...It absorbs quickly, is definitely NOT a balm at all. I would put it between an aftershave splash and aftershave "jelly". 2 squirts is generally all that is needed. When I don't have a matching splash, I'll use that and honestly don't need the balm. But I use the balm as a carrier agent for the fragrance of the day on my face and neck areas. Just added moisture for the face.

Barrister & Mann Tuesday | Ali’s Blade 7/8” Symmetrical Kamisori
Currently on Shave #609 | Straight shave #375

Today’s shave was with a soap that has caused probably the most buyers regret than any other in my den. When I was at Pasteur’s in early August, it was between this soap and Tallow + Steel’s West Coast IPA on which one to purchase. I went with the T+S, and ended up not really enjoying the in-shave experience due to the scent. So, I went ahead and purchased the soap later on and finally got around to using it today. Well, this just re-enforced the buyers regret, lol.

When this was released this past spring, I was skeptical about whether or not I would enjoy the addition of violet to lavender. I’ll say this up front, if you’re not a fan of floral scents, then this probably won’t be for you. But I do happen to enjoy them, this one being no exception. This is a unisex fragrance as well, so if it’s not entirely in your wheelhouse, then SWMBO might take a shine to it. The violet lends a great sharpness that normal lavender scents don’t have…it’s quite nice, and holds a unique place in the plethora of lavender fragrances available on the market. If you’re looking for an impression of what this scent conjures up, sitting in a greenhouse full of in bloom, sweet smelling flowers would be an apt description. It’s not the smell of a carnation or rose bouquet, but more of spring flowers, if that makes any sense.

Performance wise, its right where you would imagine Barrister & Mann’s glissant base would be, which is above average. There will be a review posted, as well as a video review. The shave was a nice three pass ordeal, with the alum giving the predicted feedback. That’s more due to the blade that was used. I could probably get a more keen edge on this blade, but with the geometry, I’m a little reticent to try and give it another go, but after today’s shave, it might be an inevitability. I still managed a nice DFS, however, which is all I was shooting for.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and has an uneventful Monday. Thanks for reading!

That Ali’s Blade is an untamed beast it seems! I know you will master it one day!

Hope you’ve gotten in a little R&R over the weekend and Monday treated you well!

Thanks Chris...no real weekends here, just 7 days of work, but it was a bit on the slower side work-wise. IRT the Ali's Blade...it's intimidating, but once it gets a better edge on it, it will give some stellar shaves for sure!

Australian Private Reserve Florian | Timeless Bronze Open Comb | Perma-Sharp Stainless (5)
Currently on Shave #610 | Straight shave still at #375

Well, this is the last new tub of soap that I have in the den, (for the time being). Despite the positive reviews on this soap, I had yet to use it. This is mainly due to the fact that the price to play is pretty steep, since it’s imported from the other side of the world. I did get the opportunity to take a whiff or three of a couple of their soaps while at Pasteur’s, but none really ticked all the boxes for me. The scent description on this one, however, really did intrigue me. Enough to pay the price of admission. I'll be spending a few days with this one, to give it a proper review when I'm done.

What I get off of the tub is very similar to Chad-bane, or Arko. But it’s not the generic smell that you Arko gives off. (I’m actually not opposed to Arko’s smell…it’s generic, clean, citrus to my nose) This is a much more refined and clean smelling version of Arko. Quite nice. There are undertones to the scent that do come through once lathered, but the citrus is ever present.

The lather was quite nice from a performance stand point…decent cushion, decent slickness and residual. Post shave I have to look at a little more, but initial indications are that it’s not bad at all. The surprising thing with this soap is how good it looked and felt on the face. The amount of sheen it displayed, and the silkiness that it felt on the face was absolutely elite level stuff. Like, Icarus base good. I’m going to be going with this soap for the next couple of days and will do a full review of the product on Wednesday or Thursday so I can make some well-informed ratings of the soap base.

The hardware today was the Timeless Bronze OC with a Perma-Sharp stainless on its 5[sup]th[/sup] use. This is just a very aggressive feeling razor to my face. Lots of blade feel…and the blade might have started to wane, so the shave wasn’t as comfortable as I was hoping. But it still ended up being a good shave. The Silver Smoke 24mm Pink Ivory brush by Smattayu whipped up an awesome lather today, as well. DFS was the order of the day, and I followed up with Adagio aftershave splash and some Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia EdT. Nice way to end a good shave!

I’m slowly making my way through the journals, and will eventually be caught up with everyone. I hope y’all had a good Monday, and your Tuesday is going well so far. Ciao!

Thanks for reading!

Some nice shaves, Josh. I have an AS sample of Tuesday, and your description of it is spot on.

Australian Private Reserve Florian | Brass Colonial General | Feather Pro-Guard (4?)
Currently on Shave #611 | Straight shave still at #375

I’m going to be sticking with APR’s Florian for the next few shaves, giving it a thorough once over to give a proper review. This morning I grabbed the Colonial General in Brass with a Pro-Guard blade on (I think) its fourth use. Could be more, could be less. I wasn’t doing a video this morning for the shave, or tomorrow, so it was time to chase the baby. Four passes, with a bit of clean-up afterwards left me not quite with a BBS-G…the only thing keeping it from that lofty status was the ever so subtle feedback from the alum afterwards. It was just a little more than a hint, but nothing like actual feedback…but it was there all the same. But…I’m SMOOTH…BBS as BBS can get. It’s about 6 hours post shave, and there is NOTHING left. Still nice and smooth and soft. It’s probably going to prevent me from shaving tomorrow, which is ok, I guess. I followed up this morning’s shave with some Wholly Kaw’s Fern Concerto and Juniper Sling. Decently good combination, as the citrus notes in each really played well with each other.

Most of you have seen the PIF video I posted today. That’s much of what is going to be included, but I identified quite a bit of other stuff that is going to be included. Those will be added over the course of the next 3 months to the haul, so it will end up being quite a bit larger than it is currently. Looking forward to seeing how everything plays out with it!

Work is going to get busy again here for a few days, so if my presence is reduced to just posting my videos, that’s why. Thanks for reading, everyone. Have a great hump day!
