Honeybee Soaps Hydrogen | Feather SS Kamisori | Feather Pro-Guard (3)
Currently on Shave #555 | Straight shave #346

Yesterday was a continuance of the same, and it turned into a very long night. So, late to wake, late to shave, but I DID shave. And I did record it. But, I haven’t had the opportunity to do any post-production yet, so that will be posted much later on in the day. Also have a mail call segment to put in there as well…so that’s one bonus to not immediately rendering the video.

The shave, my first with a glycerin based soap, was with TSC Vendor and one of the original “Sue’s”, Honeybee Soaps, in her scent, Hydrogen. This is a light blue floral and fresh scent, reminiscent of those air fresheners you get for your car…and I really like it. As far as the lather goes, I was a little skeptical that I would be able to get a good lather out of it, but with a little bit of work, I was able to coax out a nice lather, though a bit on the drier side of the house than I normally like. I was very conscious that too much water too quick would break it, so I might have had a resultantly sub-optimal later for what it can give. I did get a great shave however, the Feather scything through the 2-days of growth without any hesitation and the soap providing a great platform for it to do its job. Three passes later, and I’m DFS+, no irritation or alum feedback aside form one dime sized spot. I followed up with Nivea Sensitive Cooling balm and the classic 4711 EdC…almost using it like an aftershave. (it’s real hot out here, so this will burn off very quick)

You’ll have to wait until the video to see about the mail call…and in the meantime, I should have some time freeing up in the next day or so to catch up on everyone’s journals, as well as other threads throughout the forum, including Bingo. Thanks for all the well-wishes guys, it means a lot!

Happy ground-hog day everyone!

Can’t wait to see the video, and hear your thoughts on the Honeybee. I know it’s not even in the same realm as what you’re used to, but glad you still got a good shave from it.

Great shave and read, Josh. I can't wait to see the Mail Call. Just caught up on a couple days worth, and I'll echo everyone else. Get some rest, we'll be here when you are able to pop in.

Catching up again Josh!

As per norm great shaves, reviews, reads, and pictures!

Hope things slow down a little for you at work. But then again, for me anyway, being busy seems to make the day go faster, but I don't like being swamped!

Thanks again everyone!

The Holy Black Tangerine Creeper| Ali's Blade 7/8" Kamisori
Currently on Shave #556 | Straight shave #347

"I should have stuck with the Feather...."

Yeah, that pretty much sums up my feelings after this shave. The soap was good, but could have been better...but that wasn't the biggest issue. The biggest issue was staring at me right in the mirror. *smdh*

So I'm doing my recording thing, starting the first pass. Things going well, and the first few strokes go well. The razor is doing fine, good edge on it and all. The soap, while not an ideal lather for this soap base, is adequate for the job. Then I just stop paying attention to where the nasty little spike point is on the razor...then I felt it. The point just dragging along my skin. At least that's what it felt like. I knew from experience that it was not dragging along, it was slicing under. *sigh* Let's allow it to do its thing.

By the time I got to the other side of my face, there was a nice little dollop of red. The rest of the pass went by without incident, and a little water seemed to stem any further flow of vital fluids. Of course, now that I've had one incident with this razor this shave, I've got to be paying attention, right?

Wrong again, Ralph.

This time it was on the left side of the face, but thankfully under the jawline, not as long, but a little deeper. This razor was out to get me today. It must have been me talking smack about it during the video, about how its geometry is all buggered up. I must have given it a complex and it lashed out. I debated throwing in the towel on pass three, (and in retrospect, probably should have so that I had something a little more substantial to shave later on), but pushed on all the same.

THANKFULLY, there was no additional spillage or seepage. The frustrating thing about this, is there will be pictures taken in the next 10 days, and I'm going to have a lovely reminder of how much Murphy loves the camera and limelight.

Aside from all that, the shave was actually really good. I'm not going to do a review on the soap right now because I didn't get the lather I know I can out of it. That will come when I get back and use it for a third time. (going to use it once again before I leave, but won't have time for a full video/written review)

No irritation at all, just the two reminders that I should have used the Feather. Or any other razor. I didn't get the full creamsicle scent profile until just before putting on the aftershave...then it was all I could smell. Until then, it was all tangerine. Quite pleasant! The Clinique Happy is a great pairing with this, though I wish the sillage / longevity would be better. But, it's a citrus scent, so it's not in its nature to be long lasting AND loud. It burns bright for about an hour, then like Kaiser Sose, *poof*, it's gone! (well into a nice floral dry down that is a skin scent after about 4 hours)

Got a snap of the first Murphy visit...not the second. Hope everyone is having a great Sunday!!

Great reads, Josh. Bummer about the spike point misbehaving, however. And I'll be curious to hear your impressions of the Tangerine Creeper once you've used it more.

Well is it Monday there?

It is here and Mr. M. made his round to my shave this morning also.

Ouch !! I can see the frustration in your face.....................and on it

Catching up Josh, Good Stuff

Thanks guys!

I did shave today, but since I'm still in the process of getting back into a routine over here, there's not going to be a full SOTD post. I will say that the shave went very well with the Hartford Cutlery 5/8" Extra Hollow Ground. Soap, aftershave and brush knot were all provided by Declaration Grooming...and were downright awesome! Brush handle was by Wild West Brushworks...he really does do good work. DFS+/BBS- and zero irritation or bloodshed of any kind. Just what the Dr. Ordered with almost 4 days of growth.

The video of the shave is in the process of uploading, so that will be posted in the next couple of hours!

So it's their take on what a beach scent would be. It has the "feel" of some mild suntan lotion (not loud like a clone of Hawaiian Tropics oil, or something along those lines), with hints of ocean breeze and spray thrown in there. The anamalic scent that was extremely prevalent with the Santal Auster, and led me to PIF it, is there but extremely muted and doesn't interfere with the fragrance at all, at least to me.

Performance wise...this is the top performing soap base I've ever used.

Interesting. Hmmmmmm - considering......

I think you answered my question...but is this more "beach" or "ocean" scent? To me a beach type scent definitely is that sun tan lotion kind of scent while an ocean scent is more like Mickey Lee Soap Works the Kraken. Nice and light with a sort of aquatic scent to it.

Best way I can describe it Don is that it's like The Kraken mixed with Stirling South Padre...the ocean smell and beach smell meld together pretty well.

Sounds like a great scent! I have a tub of the Chatillion Lux/Declaration Grooming Vide Poche in the Icarus Base coming. Should be here this week! Can't wait to try since you give that soap base such high praise.

OK, Josh. You have my full attention with that soap.
