The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Great read, picture, and shave sans the seepage and irritation Josh!

Awesome mail call!

Sweet mother of mails calls! And YOU'RE the one that got the last bottle of Opuntia AS!!

Nice shaves!

I hope all your work troubles are fully blown over now, lol, yikes!

Some really nice tin and bottle collections you’ve got going on there. Those companies have really set a high bar on packaging - SV And Penhaligon! Enjoy the new razor!

Thanks Craig! The irritation wasn't that bad, just more so than yesterday. The seepage was just a little pin prick of a spot. I think I caught an older scar or bump I wasn't aware of.

Thanks Dave! Not sure if I got the last bottle, as this order was placed on the 30th. Definitely worth waiting on or ordering direct from SV. Gives you a reason to order a couple of other items from them if you're doing that too!

Thanks Chris! Work problems persist somewhat, but like everything else out here, will blow over eventually. With people under the microscope out here, things get blown out of proportion very quickly, so you just have to be patient, bite your tongue a bit, and ride the wave of emotions that come along with it...both theirs and your own.

Have to agree with you on the packaging for the soaps, frags, and razors...all were top shelf all the way!

Nice shave. I am glad the nick wasn't bad. Great mail call!

Thanks Doug!

Wow did I ever get behind Josh. What a great PIF and a great 300 shave. Congratulations on both fronts. The packages just keep coming huh?

All caught up, Josh. Nice mail call. The Timeless razor has been tempting me for a while. And what's the SOS of the new SV soap?

Thanks Walt! Yeah, I've been a little impulsive over the past three months.

Caught up, and great stuff

Thanks Dave!

Thanks Chris...I finally had to pull the trigger on it after staring at it one too many times. Put it in the cart...delete it. Wash, rinse, repeat....

The SoS on the SV soap I would say is a solid 3/5 and stays there or a little stronger lathered up.

So I was curious how some of my new razors stacked up, weight wise, against each other and the other razors I have in the den. Here's what I found (lightest to heaviest)

Schick Type E Injector: (blade loaded) 33.1g
RazoRock BlackHawk: 35.8g
Aluminum Colonial General: 46.2g
Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip: 57.7g
Gillette Super Speed Red Tip: 66.2g
Gillette Aristocrat (48-51'): 68.6g
Gillette Fatboy G-2: 78.2g
Merkur Futur: 124.8g
Timeless Bronze OC: 129.4g
Brass Colonial General: 130.0g

What surprised me is the brass version of the General is almost 3X as heavy as it's aluminum version. I would imagine that makes it a heck of a lot more nimble around the face, and dials back the aggression some just due to the weight reduction. Also, it shows how light the RR Blackhawk actually is, only being ~3g heavier than the Injector. There really wasn't anything that surprised me about the Gillette's...though I didn't think the FB would come in a full ~10g heavier than the Aristocrat. And if there were any doubt about the Futur's credentials as an aggressive, skin peeling razor; on top of the wicked blade gap and exposure when cranked full open, it's almost as heavy as the Timeless and Brass General.

I did a little research as well into the SS versions of the General and the Timeless...(I'll post the General's numbers when I get out of work...can't access that site here)

The Timeless SS OC, depending on the handle chosen, can run from 110g all the way up to 133g...so the bronze version is as heavy as the heaviest SS version. Interesting for sure. (the solid bar version with smooth cap comes in at 135g max weight) The titanium OC version of the Timeless comes in at 66.4g (solid bar up to 67.9g). The cool thing is the TI version is completely interchangable with the SS version, but not the Bronze versions.

Thanks for posting those numbers. Maybe this would make for a good post over in the DE subforum?

Interesting for sure. I know I posted weights of my Asylum and ATT SE2 on that other site. I'll have to look those up for comparison.

Great shaves, and some terrific mail calls! Speaking of which, I will have a certain package on its way to you very soon.

Thanks Doug! I went ahead and copied it over there.

I'd be interested to see the weight on those razors as well to see how they compare, for sure!

Thanks Jim...and IRT the mail call...it makes me want to dance.

Ariana & Evans Warrior of Howling Fjord | Brass Colonial General | Feather Professional (2)
Currently on Shave #497 | Straight shave still at #300

Relatively quick entry today. I grabbed the next soap in rotation from the new additions, The Shaving Club’s (A&E) Warrior of Howling Fjord. This is an interpretation of Creed Aventus, with the pineapple notes being very forward without being overpowering. During the lathering stage, the pineapple is up front and present, however, the soap scent completely changes once painting strokes begin to a nice woody note with some soft spices in the background. Quite an interesting take on the Aventus scent accord, though honestly it is a somewhat simplistic version of the real thing, which really isn't a knock for me, but it might for some. Performance wise? Fuggedaboudit! This is right up there with Declaration Grooming, for me, as far as overall performance goes, and just surpasses Wholly Kaw. The only place it’s not quite as good as DG is the post shave feel.

I used what is probably my least expensive brush today in the Razorock Big Bruce 26mm synth, and it was able to whip up a beautiful lather, albeit after a bit of time and water. This is a bit springier of a synth, so there was some flying lather during the whipping process, and it’s not nearly as soft on the face as say the tuxedo, BOSS, or cashmere knots. But it does a good job nonetheless.

The General was back on deck with the second shave with the Feather Pro, and it didn’t disappoint. Three passes and some judicious clean-up, and I walked away with an irritation free shave with next to no alum sting anywhere. I was thinking this might have been a grail shave, save for a little bit of micro-stubble on the left side of my mouth down to my chin as I'm feeling around an hour or so post-shave. So DFS+ is the grade, but I’ll take it. The blade did seem to mellow out a bit from when I used it the other day…I’ll do another experiment later on to see how many shaves I can get out of them, but for now it’s been binned and the General is awaiting the Feather Pro Super. Post shave consisted of the matching aftershave, then topped off with some Paladin balm infused with some Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man. A few vasilies of CdNIM later and I was ready for the day.

Have a great day everyone!
