The Dollar Store Razor Challenge

Nice job Dave! That razor really brings out the snarky-ness!

Shave 1 January 25, 2018

The Assured Razoe Challange.
Final results of shave 1 differed from the video. I was closer to CCS than ASA which I rated it in the video> shave 2 was SAS

Posted more about this shave in my journal...but again...here is the nuts and bolts of it. Let's just say...I don't think I will be shaving with this razor/blade combo again!

I decided to take the advice of the Cadre and pitch the blade that so offended my face. I grabbed another Assured blade and inspected it to be sure there were no nicks or dents. There were not. I placed the blade in the razor and checked for alignment issues...there were none. I went ahead and did a towel strop of the blade in the razor...both sides...I should be ready to go! Lathered the wonderful soap and the scent of Dragon's Blood is almost enough to make one forget any misgiving. I said...ALMOST. The North to South pass was almost a decent pass. Felt the blade a good bit but was expecting it. There was some stubble reduction and I thought all would be well. I attempted the South to North pass and this is where the trouble began. The blade seemed like it would catch on EVERY...SINGLE...WHISKER! Seriously...the blade would pull and tug on every hair follicle that I waved the razor over. Under and around the chin area is the worst. I finished up the best I could and decided I was done! Yup...three shaves with this razor and these blades are enough for me. I might want to try it with a regular razor...but I am going to give it a few days before I commit to that. A splash of aftershave was nice...but this shave really sucked. No real bloodletting occurred...but a little tiny nick under my chin is there. Go figure. Again...this was not a great shave...but just a shave.

Nice video Jim. Your intro is awesome!

Don, you've survived the $1 Razor Challenge. Congratulations sir, now you can get back to using a razor and blade that don't scrape your face off! ???

I have made it through shave 2 with these blades forged In The fires of mount doom and I disliked this shave more than the first. Really tuggy and seems to be at best CCS+ lots of palpable stubble left after 4 passes.

My first dollar razor shave was captured on video for all to enjoy. Today it was a quick slide downhill. With the first pass I thought things were better than yesterday. It s
eemed like the blade was smoother and I was actually getting a good(ish) shave. Come the second pass start the roughness and some tugging and come the third pass I was getting flashbacks of Graham Field. There was less alum sting than I was expecting and I got BBS on the cheeks and DFS+ on the neck. I would have like to have a couple clean up stokes from the Timeless on my neck, but at the time I was assuming I would be lit up like a forest fire.

My assured death trap arrived today. I got some catching up to do in this thread though

I skipped last nights shave, and despite having a miserable day already, I was all set to go with my second dollar razor shave. The only thing I was changing from the previous one was using LNH in place of CBL soap.

Set the paladin in the water to soak while I was in the shower, opened up the razor to check the blade (which surprisingly still had some edge left on it), put the blade back in, started to close the razor, and this happened.....

So I opened the cabinet and grabbed my Dandy Shave Co. razor that already had a fresh PolSilver blade in it and used that. I still had a couple spots that were yelling at me for the last round of abuse I put them through, but overall a decent 2 pass shave. I wasn't pushing anything though, so I left it where it was. Probably about a DFS+ on the face and DFS on the neck.
AS had a little tickle to it, but nothing compared to the other night.

Overall, I'm going to conclude that for me, this razor cost's about $3 more than it is worth. The blades are horrible on tough whiskers, and the razor won't even last the life of the pack of blades which would have equaled about two and a half shaves.

Not on my list to look for in the future.

Our first razor malfunction! I’m surprised this hasn’t happened already.
