The Dollar Store Razor Challenge

Chris got 2 razors in one... Regular on one side, and a slant on the other. Not bad for a buck.

Lol, I was trying to gauge a sufficient amount of time to build the William’s enough to get the shave done, without spending too long.

Shave #24 of 2019:

Gear: Assured Razor, Assured blade (2), RR Big Bruce synth, Cella soap, generic witch hazel, and Myrsol Formula K AS to close!

Eliminated some variables today in the Assured Razor Challenge...it wasn’t without some discomfort, but I came out on top with a 70%+ BBS, the rest a touch into DFS.

In the shave I only used the near perfect side of the razor, I did not flip the blade or anything else. Yesterday I simply dipped the entire head, blade and all, into isopropyl for a couple seconds. I haven’t even opened the razor back up.

The WTG and XTG passes were actually semi-comfortable. The edge of the blade had indeed smoothed put a tad, but still was obviously lacking in sharpness when passing over some spots. No tugging yet, but I did feel some scraping.

ATG is where the deficiencies of the blade really become noticeable. It cut, but produced a moderate bit of razor burn and some irritation. Nothing the witch hazel couldn’t handle, but still fairly uncomfortable, unpleasant, and scrape-y in a number of spots. Skin is a bit tender, but otherwise I’m good for the final use of this duo together for tomorrow’s shave.

I hate to say it, but right now I’m siding with those who say this thing is manageable in a pinch.

I was thinking about doing an "economy" shave as well when mine got here. Depending on how things go with tonight's shave though, that may be out. I used XXX last night and followed it with some of the citrusy Stirling AS I have. Not good... A lot of burning and irritation that I can still feel. I think the new job is going to wreak havoc on my shaves for a little bit until I acclimate. The entire building is humidity controlled because they are gluing dried hardwoods. It's really drying my skin out and I may need to stick to good stuff for a while.

Shave #3 in the books.

It was a late night shave for the Assured razor. And in this shave things got a wee bit off. First, as I have experienced in previous shaves with the Assured razor, the blade just goes south right after the first shave. It still cuts, just not a smooth cutting action. Well, shave 3 was the one where I could feel the blade was starting to pull and a bit of tugging was felt. I finished the shave but, it was not a comfortable or smooth one. Felt a bit of irritation along the jawline and up towards the top of the burns. The Humphreys & Nivea took care of it and honestly the Lisa’s soap really did a great job of providing protection and glide for the dull blade.

I will give another blade, perhaps a Feather or GSB a shot at the Assured razor and see how those shaves measure up. So far, the razor has held up quite well.

Yea! Rich knows what’s up! Good shave Rich.

Though you didn’t quite sound convinced you’d see us next time...is this a foreboding foreshadowing of the Shavepocalypse?!
