Not much to update. Tried a sample of a T&H cream today (Apsley). It's a very light but pleasant scent, just kind of a light cream scent. This is another one of those situations where the scent notes that they use to describe it are just lost on me:

(The harmonious overtones of woody vertivert are lifted with a refreshing essence of grapefruit and are accentuated by notes of pepper, while its heart of cedar- wood and patchouli, which has been enriched by sensual notes of musk, gives an alluring base to this captivating fragrance. Fresh, aromatic, masculine and timeless.)

Seriously... I get none of that. It's still very nice. If I was a cream guy, I'd be all over it.

Also, used my RR 400 brush for the first time today. This is what I've been looking for in a synthetic brush. The bristles are about perfect. Maybe a tiny bit on the floppy side, but I prefer that to being too stiff. We'll see how it works on a soap tomorrow.

Summer seems to have given Fall a miss, and gone right to Winter! It's been pretty chilly here. Lows in the 30s-40s. Highs in the 40s-50s. Not terrible, but not a gradual drop in temps either. Warm one day, cold the next. It got down to 65 in the house, so I turned the heater on. I like 65, I just don't want it getting much cooler than that. Especially with animals in the house. I think it's supposed to warm up a little and be 50s-60s for the next couple weeks so that wont be so bad. Hoping to get back on my motorcycle soon!

I hope you get to get some rides in too before winter hits!

Glad the 400 is working well, love my RR synth!

The scent as describe sounds pretty nice. All of that and it ends up being a simple light scent? what a downer.

31 Degrees this morning. Really did not want to get out of bed.

Did the best I could do for RazoRoctober with a Plague Doctor Soap and AS, and an R400 brush.

This scent is described as: From 17th century Venice, white musk, herbs & spices

Top Notes: Peony
Heart Notes: Musk
Base Notes: Vetiver, White Cedar, Patchouli

This is not what I smell. I'm very disappointed. To me it smells like I just opened up a box of 50 year old Band-Aids. It's a very medicinal/antiseptic smell, with an added light sickly sweet floral note. But not a good floral to me. I don't know if it is the peony or the Patchouli, but it jus smells off. Likely the peony, because I tend to like patchouli.

TJ said it smelled woody, and I was really looking forward to the musk/vetiver/cedar....... but there is none of that, to me. This one will not get a second use from me.

Strength of scent from the soap was like a 1/5. Maybe increased by 0.25 when lathered, very subtle. Which wasn't bad initially. I could have dealt with subtle. But the aftershave has some initial strength and longevity. I'm about 2 hours after application and it's still quite strong, and in this case that's a bad thing. Wish I could wash this off. The scent was so off-putting to me, I couldn't even appreciate the soap base, which I'm told is one of RR's best.

Sadly, it smells like I should have guessed it would smell based off the name and theme. The scent definitely matches the imagery. It just doesn't smell like the scent notes that are given on RR's site. (I hate that!!) Oh well, at least it made for a good SOTD Pic, right?

Was at Lodge late last night. First of all we had a ceremony to celebrate our 150th Anniversary as a Lodge. And secondly, we were putting on a Third Degree (i.e. Raising one of our candidates to be a full Master Mason). I think I was in Lodge until about 10:15 and didn't get to bed until 11. That plus the cold weather has made me very sleepy today.

I totally appreciate reviews like that, KJ - seriously. Brutally honest opinions are valued by me, especially when it comes to shaving stuff. I wouldn't even consider trying that soap based on the name alone! As a matter of fact, soap names have become sort of an irritating thing with me lately, now that I'm in the "Hey you kids, get off my lawn" phase of life. I've grown weary with many of the names given to soaps, and RazoRock seems to be the worst offender, IMHO; I can do without the sophomoric labels. OK, rant over; didn't mean to hijack your journal.

BTW, congrats on the 150 years at your Lodge! That's impressive. My dad was a Mason, and his dad, and his dad, and his dad, etc. etc. I had intended on continuing the tradition, but "life" seemed to get in the way, and alas, never did.

Sorry the soap wasn't to your liking scent wise. That is one I did not like when I sniffed it.

Long days when moving members through the ranks. I am all too familiar.

Sorry if my thoughts on the soap misled you KJ. I actually do get woody notes not the sick floral smell. SWMBO actually likes it too. But i guess its another soap/scent you and i disagree on. GTB and the Veg now i guess have a third. Nice read

Thanks, I try to be very honest and to the point with my reviews. I know everyone's senses are different, but I just try to describe things as I smell/experience them.

Yeah, initial smell off the tub wasn't great. I'd hoped it would get better once lathered. Nope.

Good to hear you're out and about, KJ.
Thanks. Out an about isn't the issue, I've felt fine for weeks. The rough stuff (talking, swallowing, moving my head)is coming along slowly.

You didn't mislead me. We are all different. I was intrigued, but made my final decision after reading the description on the site. If anyone, RR misled me, LOL. That, and I got suckered in by the labeling.

But i guess its another soap/scent you and i disagree on. GTB and the Veg now i guess have a third.

That's strike 3.... you're dead to me!

You know what'll wake you up? A nice bike ride into work at 31 degrees!

True, LOL. Just not sure If I'd be able to feel my legs or my hands once I got there. 30 degrees at 50 mph feels like 12 degrees!

At one point all I had was a bike for transportation and my girlfriend lived a good 25min away. In college at the time and didn't have very good gear, just blue jeans. I remember one time it's was around freezing and a little misty. When I got there, there was a film of ice on my glove and my legs were numb and blue. But hey, I also learned to ski in Colorado back in the day people wore blue jean and cowboy hats on the slopes.

Sorry to hear that the scent wasn't to your liking(a bit of an understatement perhaps?). I also appreciate blunt opinions when it comes to things like this, though now you've got me curious as to what a box of 50 year old band aids smells like. I might have to bury some in a time capsule and start eating really healthy...

50 year old box of bandaids, that's funny stuff there. KJ, I'd say your gonna drag until that Synthroid builds on your system. It takes awhile. Hang in there

Whatever floats your boat man......

Maybe just search ebay or an antique store. It may be underwhelming if you have to wait too long for it.

The things we men will do.

Indeed!
