Stirling 3 piece DEs

The timing of this release is perfect. I’ve just started looking into getting a Timeless. I might wait and consider this new razor instead. Or better yet, get both!

It has been confirmed that the new SS razor from Stirling will actually be at about $200 for the mirror polished version and a matte finish version will be available for $100. But, from what I read on the Reddit AMA it looks like the matte finished razor will be available perhaps later and not released in conjunction with the polished version. Rod did give a very straight forward answer in that it was just not feasible in producing a high quality & high finish razor in a SS 316L alloy for less, especially with it being manufactured here in the USA. Personally, it would have been nice if it peaked at the $150 threshold but, again most high end razors are starting at about $180 already and we know what Wolfman razors are substantially higher with Charcoal Goods, Paradigm & Timeless following closely behind. I’m still thinking of getting on board with the Stirling SS razor but, I’ll probably just wait for the matte finished version whenever it becomes available. Still, it it’s as good a finish as the razors mentioned above for the mirror polished version and it performs as good as Rod has stated in the Q&A on Reddit, it still can be a formidable competitor to the established higher ups in the artisan wet shaving manufacturing market. And competition always brings competitive pricing. I certainly hope that Rod at Stirling nails it with a winner in the high end razor field....

Just an interesting aside - Supply also announced raising their prices recently. They’re also moving to the $150 range for their injector plus the other plates.

I don’t like the trend personally, but there’s obviously a market for now.

Well, at least Supply has a product that has been proven and is made to last a couple of lifetimes. SS make up and excellent construction, I can give them a pass on a price hike. But, Rockwell has their Model T on their website for $150 as well. Mine is an excellent performer and build quality is solid but, it's not close to a higher end razor in feel and quality, imo. Still, I agree with you %100 that the trend is heading up in the pricing department with makers today....

My pocket book would have to wait for the Matte finish if I get one. Just economics for me the same as it is for them.....

Agreed amigo. I've been putting out some $$$ in the razor game. Time to hold off on these expenditures especially with the holidays coming up. If I decide on getting one, I'll go with the matte finish as well. As I still want to support Stirling on this one....

So I can say with certainty now that it won't happen before Christmas. I'm really sorry. I did all I could, but it just wasn't in the cards to have it done, and I didn't want to rush it further and risk any QC issues. That said, I do have a date now. I'm not going to say the date until I actually have them in my hands, as at this point I'm pretty sure that would jinx it and they'd all be consumed in a fiery inferno that opened up from within the earth. But there are 300 sets (100 with standard base plate, 100 with hyper aggressive, and 100 with both base plates) currently in production. The leather cases are also in production. There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

That's a small run....................My prediction is a sellout fairly quick. Week or less.........................maybe a couple days (y)

That small run is going to cost me over $35,000! I'm taking out a loan to have them cut. If they do sell out quickly, I plan to immediately take the money and pay off the loan and have more machined. They are a high end item, but I don't want to create an artificial scarcity. It's an awesome razor. Maybe one of the best ever made. I want it available at all times.

I wasn't implying you were attempting to create scarcity. I can imagine it's a big risk tying up that much money etc. and was just indicating I think it will go over big for you and sell out quickly. I appreciate what it takes to do what you do and contribute to this "hobby" of ours. Please don't misunderstand my comments. I'm an interested party considering how quick I may need to pull the trigger on one before they disappear (y)

I didn't take it that way at all. I just meant I was surprised that 300 would be considered a small run. I hope they do sell out fast, but I honestly thought that by doing 300 I would be able to prevent them selling out quickly and causing any angst from customers hoping to get one.
