Stirling 3 piece DEs

Been following along on this. And I am not sold on the handle design. But assuming the price is right I am sure I will try one.

Hey @Joe Hackett any comparison for the the mid and aggressive plates for reference ? Thanks Rod

I honestly don't own any high end razors, so I can't make any comparisons. I've got testers shaving with them over the next couple of weeks. So far the results have been exactly what I'd hoped for. I will say that neither of them are likely to be good options for beginners. They are both aggressive. I'm looking forward to seeing the polished product. The handles look so much nicer when polished, and I have no doubt the heads will too.

Sounds good. Thanks Rod

That sounds promising. Most new entries into the wet shaving world in the far majority start off on the milder side and work their way up the aggression scale until they find what works for them on a consistent basis.

A more aggressive or should I say a bit more efficient feeling razor will always grab my attention. Positive and Neutral blade exposure designed razors have always worked extremely well for me. Negative blade exposure razors have also worked but, just a bit more work involved with them in getting a solid shsve.

My shaving taste buds are gearing up for this one. Will be following closely.....

Posting a few pics from a shave member on another forum who wrote up perhaps one of the best reviews on a razor, prototype or current production model that I’ve ever read. I won’t post the link as I’m not sure if it’s allowed but, the gentleman has compared the SS Stirling prototype with some of the more upper end razors including some of the most aggressive/efficient razors in the business. The prototype actually competes extremely well against the likes such as Timeless, Wolfman and Charcoal Goods. Including a shave comparing it to one of the most efficient feeling shavers out there, the Ikon Tech. According to the testers experience it shaved just as efficiently as the Tech but, noticeably smoother. That statement grabbed my attention very quickly. I own the Tech and if the Stirling is just as efficient yet smoother, that’s a Ralph Kramden “Homina” moment.

Here are a few pics from that reviewer....

I think the pics sold me. @Joe Hackett how much longer?

I'm still gathering quotes. The machinist I worked with on the design simply needs too much for the production run. The razor would be in the $170 to $190 range if I went with his quote, and I really want to be able to make it less expensive than that. If I can't keep it the mirror finish version under $150, I just won't do it. There's already enough razors in the 200 plus range.

My goal as far as timeline is concerned is before Labor Day.

That's very commendable of you, sir. I'm in and I hope that this endeavor is successful. One more thing, assuming that all goes well and you achieve the happy medium of production costs & profitability because let's face it you have to turn a profit or it's not viable, will you be offering the razor with both the mild and aggressive base plates in a kit in either finish as an option or will it be offered in two separate razors with one being a mild set up and the other aggressive? Thanks in advance and looking forward to seeing this razor as a standard stock item in your store in the very near future....

It's all going to depend on the final price. If I can make it viable to sell both base plates together, I will. At a minimum I'll make the base plates available a la carte.

An update from Stirling on the progress and potential release/availability of the SS razor offering. I copied it from another forum and pasted it here. Good info and I’m extremely interested in this razor......

“GlazedBoker, I should have a better idea by the end of next week. I'm really working to get the machinist to pick up the paces. I've got six handles of various finish levels in front of me today . What is likely going to happen, is that we will offer a completely unpolished level (other than normal buffing to remove burrs), which should be in the $100 range and it will only come with our standard handle options, as the art-deco handles have too aggressive of a knurling to be used with out quite a bit of buffing to take the bite away. We'll also have an Electro-polished version (maybe not in the first round) that will also use the standard handles. The 316L handles (Fort Worth, Dallas, and Austin) will only be available in the manually polished version that will be hand polished up to a mirror finish, and will include laser etching of serial numbers and designs on the side of the base plate. That's been the real hold up so far. Well, that and deciding on packaging. As these are high end items, the packaging should be in line with that so we're furiously trying to find something that meets that need without adding a huge cost to production. I'd hoped to be ready to release them by 1 October, but that's not going to be feasible. It's okay though. I'd rather folks be mad that an amazing razor took a little longer than to have them mad that we put a mediocre razor out too soon.”
