Slants

So tonight was the last of my most recent slant acquisitions (until the next one arrives next week ;)).

This was the Ikon B1 stainless steel DLC coated slant, which was a clone of the Mulcuto Needlepoint. To my knowledge, all Ikon stainless steel razors were called B1 and so it gets real confusing. What got more confusing is that Ikon came out with a Hybrid Slant which has the cap of an X3 and the base plate of the B1 slant. I had the hybrid for a while now and it was a very efficient shaver and so when the opportunity came up to get a B1 slant, I got one just to see what the real one shaved like. Quite frankly, I have no idea how close a shave the B1 slant is to the real Mulcuto Needlepoint because I don't own one. It is still on my list, but I got impatient.

WTG pass went very smooth. I had to adjust my angle a little from the Hybrid because the caps were different. Personally the B1 was a slightly milder and less efficient shave as the Hybrid. ATG pass again went smoothly, and I appreciated that I could adjust the shave angle more than with the Hybrid and came out with a very efficient two pass BBS. Now I have to redouble my efforts to find a Mulcuto Needlepoint just to compare the two razors.

Hey, did anyone hear from @Techichi? He was supposed to be shaving with Thor's Hammer this weekend and we haven't heard from him since.

I hope he didn't drop it on his foot or anything like that.

Stealth Clone Review

4.3oz with the Maggard handle. The bottom plate weighs 0.9oz...that's the weight of most Schick Injectors. The head is all safety bar and can be a little difficult at times. I used Ethos Success every time I shaved with this razor and I used 3 different blades. The Shark Stainless, Feather, and Wizamet. The best experience was with the Wizamet although by that time I was more familiar with the razor so that could have something to do with it. Besides I haven't met a DE the Wizamet blade doesn't like.

With the grain passes were a breeze for me. The Shark blade got a little caught up around the jaw line, but the other two blades did just fine. Across the grain and against the grain were a little different. Getting that angle just right with those massive safety bars proved to be a task at first. Not only that but lather seems to clog things up rather quickly. However once I got the feel down, it's a very decent shaver. I would recommend this to people who, ironically enough, like more mild shavers. Yes it is a beast of a slant, but those safety bars do a good job of protecting your skin. Although some may find it's a little too much safety bar.

Yes, for it's size and mass, it actually is a rather mild shaver. I am believing that area under the safety bar might be for the purpose of lather management or maybe even stretching the skin (however this razor really prefers riding the cap). I got to try a Wizamet blade.

Okay, now on to the next slant, but mine has been delayed in the mail. I think they removed a bunch of mail sorting machines between DFW and Seattle. ;) You can announce, and I will catch up later with mine.

Yep, an Old Type that's been slanted on a handle that is a 40s Style Super Speed shaft and old type top assembly to make it a 3 piece handle.

Purists weep (JOKES). I know stuff like this can be a little dividing, but hopefully it doesn't start any trouble.

Have you put it through some shaves yet?
