Dave, how would you compare the GC and to the Lupo? I’ve been curious of the GCI have the .84 in SB and OC and have had the same experience as Glenn. I prefer easy and mindlessness of the SB....
GC is nice but not as smooth for me. But everyone is different. I can send you the GC .84 SB and OC to try if you want...............................who we kidding, You want to try it. I'll get it in the mail.Dave, how would you compare the GC and to the Lupo? I’ve been curious of the GC
I agree with @Dave in KY that the Lupo is smoother than the GC .84.Dave, how would you compare the GC and to the Lupo? I’ve been curious of the GC
Thanks @bobmsp. I’ve had my eye on it for a while but snagged the Lupo on the last drop instead. I’ve been pretty lucky with blind buys but I know my luck will run out sooner or later.I agree with @Dave in KY that the Lupo is smoother than the GC .84.
You the man, Dave! Can’t wait to give the GC a try.I was going to say more efficient too. Regardless it's on its way to him to see for himself
You should definitely try out the GC, but I think you'll be satisfied with the Lupo that you have. I'll probably be putting the GC up on the BST sometime. Thanks @bobmsp. +1 Gus.The RR GC .84 OC has been relegated to shelf display duty as of late especially ever since I received my RR Lupo. I just reach for it more than any other Razorock razor in my den. Today though, it came out from it’s shave slumber as I’m participating in the OCtober event on another forum. Dropped in a fresh Kai blade, whipped up some suds from the excellent RR The Dead Sea soap and went on to have a very comfortable and easy 3 pass shave that was damn near BBS all around. A couple of tiny stragglers around the Adam’s Apple area but, smooth as silk everywhere else. I’ve forgotten how good and smooth this OC version actually is. Superb tool for the money and a great bang for your buck shaver…..

Great question! It’s certainly possible. The Game Changer is a great modern stainless steel razor option in general. The solid bar versions might be a little more forgiving for someone just starting out. The OC versions are indeed nice though as well! I own a .68 solid bar, and once owned a .84 OC which ended up being too aggressive for me so I traded it for a .68 OC…way better for me!Would this razor in .68 open comb or jaws be a good model for a beginner with no experience using a DE safety razor? I shave once a week, have a lot of growth by them, and have historically used triple blade Dorco cartridge razors?
Where’s the fun in finding refurbished ones? I like fixer uppers myself. If I can find one at an antique store and clean it up myself them I’m in heaven!Where’s a good place to buy refurbished Gillette Fatboys?
I'll just be the contrarían and opine that adjustables are IMO the worst way to learn shaving technique. They tend to let you compensate for poor skill by giving you more gap to work with when your poor mastery of angle and pressure frustrates. Learn angle and pressure from a mid aggressive fixed head and you'll learn a lot quicker. Game Changer 68 or 84 would do just fine.^^^^ What Spider said. A vintage adjustable razor to start with and refine your technique. With the lower entry point you can find what works for your beard. Then spend a bit more on more specific razors that address issues. In the meantime, ask questions. You won’t find a more beginner friendly bunch of guys than here. You might find someone might produce a video to address a nagging problem. They are that friendly. Welcome to a great new hobby!
I really don't want to refurbish a razor for use as my first razor.Where’s the fun in finding refurbished ones? I like fixer uppers myself. If I can find one at an antique store and clean it up myself them I’m in heaven!
But really eBay or BSTs are about the best and easiest places to find one.
There’s really nothing to it aside from cleaning it. They rarely need any true refurb (which I take to mean something is functionally wrong with it). My first razors were a Gillette Slim and a Blue Tipped superspeed that I got from an antique store. An overnight soak in some soapy water, then a good scrubbing with a tooth brush and some scrubbing bubbles and they were good to go.I really don't want to refurbish a razor for use as my first razor.
I tend to agree and for several other reasons think a new non-adjustable razor is the best way to learn but would a GC .68 OC or GC .84 SB be better for infrequenct shaving for a beginner?I'll just be the contrarían and opine that adjustables are IMO the worst way to learn shaving technique.
