What does a post shave lather do?
Well, instead of immediately washing it down the drain, I will take what’s left and smear it on my face. Once I have cleaned my shave gear up, I’ll rinse it off and apply AS. I just figured with all the butters and such in it, it can’t hurt to try and absorb a little more.

Shave Count (DE: 442 SE: 9 SR: 562)

Pre Shave-
Strop: Tony Miller Plain Vanilla
Splash and go

Shave-
Razor: Solingen SR
Blade: none
Brush: Zenith Boar
Soap: Stirling Nag Champa

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
AS: Stirling Nag Champ

Late morning shave today and it was very nice. Did I mention that I am doing a staycation this week? Yup, burning more PTO before the end of the year. So I grabbed the Zenith out of the trade/sale pile. I wanted to pay more attention and see why I’m not overly fond of it. It’s a 24mm and it’s not very dense. Paints well and soft bristles, but not much backbone and no scritch. Hit the soap for a 30 second load time and got to work.

10 laps on cotton and 40 on leather to get started. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. A very relaxing 3 passes and I am BBS for the win! The soap was the typical great Stirling performance and the scent was strong throughout the shave. I did have enough lather left for a post shave lather while I cleaned my shave gear.

Wrapped everything up with a quick rinse and pat dry. A healthy splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! You know it was. The soap starts out with a slightly different scent than the final dry down. But I really dig the scent! Still not sure about the brush. I may hang on to it and reknot with a different boar. Life is good!

Man, I miss using my straights.. Not a good idea to use them in the shower though..

Great shave, Tim! Hope you have a relaxing stay--cation! :)

Thanks Mark!

Hoping it will be quiet this week. But my email has blown up my phone all day. Garage cleaning today and hopefully car detailing tomorrow.

Man, good to see you back online again!

If you want to play with one, I can hone up a spare one for you to play with. I can also shoot you a link to a cheap strop to get you started. You could practice on weekends when you have more time.

How are the shaves going?
How is life going?
Thanks Tim!

@uacowboy actually hooked me up a while ago and fixed up my dad’s straight for me. And I have my grandfather’s, although I doubt that’s shave ready lol. I bought the cheap strop that WSP offers on their site too. I just don’t know what I’m doing with it so I’m nervous to give it a go and ruin the edge haha. I did shave with it once though and managed to not cut my face off!

Shaves are going good again. I accidentally grew a playoff beard when the Flyers went on their short lived run this year. Just got lazy and it happened to coincide with the NHL playoffs 😂😂😂.
Other than that I’ve just been extremely busy at work. I’m running the joint now. The current state of the world isn’t making it very easy though!

I do the same. Sure feels extra special on the skin when it’s a great soap!

Great start to the staycation Tim!

Nice! Sounds like everything is right with the world. Well except for the whole Rona thing.

Shave-
Razor: Hyashi Diamond SR
Blade: none
Brush: Stirling Boar
Soap: Stirling Triumph

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
AS: Stirling Triumph

The Process-
Late morning shave today because I could. Stirling once again got the nod and man, I dig this scent. A 30 second load time whipped up a ton of great lather.

10 laps on cotton and 40 on leather and it was go time. On deck today is the Hyashi Diamond, what a Japanese beauty. It’s all Ken’s fault I bought this razor, but I have no regrets. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. That was an outstanding shave, three smooth passes delivered a comfortable BBS for the win. I also had plenty of lather for a post shave lather while I cleaned my shave gear.

Wrapped everything up with a quick rinse and pat dry. Followed that up with a splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! Yup ... a great shave indeed and I smell amazing! Life is good!

That razor doesn't have the usual step between the tang and the blade, what is the reason for the step anyway, crack prevention?

The stabiliser protects the blade from torsional bending in the transverse direction (transverse spine).

I’m not sure why some razors have it and some don’t though.

Horse poo,... I'm stickin' with crack prevention, and the step is easier to make than a multi-radius thickness reduction in that application.

Razor: Hyashi Diamond SR
Blade: none
Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia Badger
Soap: AA Bay Rum

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
AS: AA Bay Rum

The Process-
A very nice late morning shave today. I wasn’t sure what the weather would be like today, but it seemed like a good day to put on the eye patch and grab the Bay Rum. A twenty second load time and I had plenty of lather to work with. This brush is starting to loosen up a bit and may end up being a lather beastie.

10 laps on cotton and 40 on leather and it was go time. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. That was another outstanding shave and I was almost completely BBS after the second pass. The 3rd pass brought everything together. Man that was a great shave. The brush still had enough lather for a post shave too.

Wrapped everything up with a healthy splash of the AS and everything was right as rain! Yup, it’s a great day for Bay Rum. Life is good ... arrrrgh!
