Glad you got to use the Santal Auster, Don! They really did do a great job on that base...performance is off the charts good! Hopefully getting caught up at work doesn't take all that long.

They really did. I am going to do a full review in the appropriate section within the next few days. I actually used it again today and made a video of it that I should be able to post later today.

Straight shave# 62

Waterville Cutlery 6/8
Made Rite 1000
DG Santal Auster
DG Santal Auster Salve

This morning, I had to use this soap again. It was that good. Also, yesterday, the scent wasn't very strong, but I got occasional whiffs of it all day, so I wanted to check to see if it was the DG or the CC. Because of this, I went with just the DG today. I recorded this shave and hope to have it up later today. Unfortunately, because I am shaving before everyone wakes up and they are all very light sleepers, it had to be a silent shave. I got a couple small weepers, probably because I was distracted, but nothing that wouldn't seal up with the cold water rinse. After 2 passes, I am very happily DFS.

Have a great day everyone!

I wouldn't worry about silent shaves...have you seen Chris' shaves? Great shave other Don!

German 37 / GSB
Shavemac Finest
CF Santa Paula
LT VC / Fine L'Orange Noir

Went with the DE today because one of the little bites I got yesterday didn't really bleed, but it did raise up a bit and didn't want to risk opening it up more. I love the orange stem scent of this soap. It really takes me back to my childhood because of all the citrus trees around the house. This Shavemac though, it is going to be relegated to just being used for creams. My Maggard 2 bands have spoiled me with their density and backbone. This brush is just too floppy to use on normal soaps. But, it works great with creams. Finished everything off with some orange dirt and I am good to go. However, this killed my orange dirt sample. It is on my list to buy now.

Have a great day everyone.

nice shave Don...Santa Paula is a good scent, quite a bit different than the normal orange based scents. Going with the DE today was probably a smart move following the inadvertent murphy visit from yesterday's shave!

Sounds like a winner of a shave, with a smart call on the DE. I don't own any big badgers, so I can only imagine what a floppy brush would feel like.

Thanks Josh!
