Not quite Music City USA

I had a shave like that once. It was a three piece and I was wondering why I felt the blade as much as I did. I just powered through it. Lot's of blood. Turns out that I didn't have the handle tightened all the way.

A much better shave today with the 1960 Gillette Fat Not Adjustable.

Prep: Hot Shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: Gillette Fat Boy
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Soap: Hub City Soap Company Morning Hike
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Razorock XXX
Talc: Borotalco

I dropped the Astra into the razor and tightened it up, making sure I got that fabled last 1/4 turn. I decided to start off on setting 5. It was definitely cutting hair at that setting, so on the second pass I set it to 9, just to experience the extreme. I'd say on setting 9 I definitely got a good amount of blade feel. Comparable to the Rex Envoy. But even then, it was a comfortable shave. I like the Fat Boy, and I'm glad I got to try one (thanks @Spider !) but I don't know if I'll get one. Certainly not while I'm between jobs. But I don't have an adjustable in my collection, so I'll try the others in the passaround and maybe find a candidate. I went with Hub City Soap Company Morning Hike again. I really like this soap a lot! Fruity and fresh, and the residual slickness is fantastic. I was able to do the little bit of touch up after the fourth pass without difficulty. I finished up with a cool comfortable application of alum, rinsed, and splashed some Razorock XXX. After dry down, I hit the talc, and I'm ready to go! Now, all I need is somewhere to go!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Everyone should own a Fatboy!
I just looked on eBay and a NOS is going for $497! If I could pick one up for around $50 I might do it next month. It's a very nice solid razor.

That's ridiculous! And being loose and out of the case, how can you guarantee it's NOS??? Unless something is in the packaging and sealed, that's the only way to know for sure it's NOS.

That's definitely dooable if you're patient and shop around, especially on BSTs. Or you can get really lucky at antique stores! I found one for $3. (of course John, @The Monkey has me beat by finding a Toggle for $3!!)

Get your facts straight.... it was $1.55!

A late afternoon shave with the newly arrived SV Opuntia.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Gillette Fat Boy
Blade: Astra SP (2)
Brush: Simpson Berkeley 46 Best Badger
Soap: SV Opuntia (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: PAA Irish Springs
Talc: Borotalco

First off, I really like Opuntia, even though I felt like the Patchouli dominated the aroma. My nose isn't particularly refined, and I'm overly sensitive to patchouli because I wore it when I was a damn dirty Dead Head, decades ago. I can really spot it in a lineup. It's not a negative, really, I was just hoping I'd catch the pineapple or the Vetiver, but I couldn't discern those, or anything else really. That is to say, I could tell patchouli wasn't all there was, I just couldn't recognize what else was there. It loaded like a dream, and produced voluminous, rich lather that was plenty slick and had good residual slickness. After the rinse following the final fourth pass, my face felt hydrated and clean, like with MdC, but it lacked the feeling of being deeply moisturized, like with MWF. That's probably the lanolin. All in all, I like this soap a lot, and don't regret the purchase one bit. My second go with the Fat Boy was error free, and it gave me a good BBS shave on setting 9. I like it most on 9, but at that setting, it's much like the Rex Supply Envoy, so I probably won't be getting a Fat Boy any time soon. Tomorrow I'll give the Slim a try.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

I tried out Stirling Texas on Fire and the Gillette Slim for the first time this morning.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Gillette Slim (first use)
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Soap: Stirling Texas On Fire
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Skin Bracer
Talc: Borotalco

The Slim, on setting 9, gave me a very close BBS shave, but I have to say that it's a little, um, slim. I think I prefer the Fat Boy. Texas On Fire, I love! It's great performance and strong smoky smell are right up my alley. I think it's cool that they've succeeded in presenting a fresh smoke and not the murky dampness of a doused fire. Well done Stirling! I broke out the trusty Skin Bracer after too long and now I'm relishing it's perfect chilliness. Not much else to report, so I won't write just to fill space!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!
