Lavender shootout sounds really cool! I have several lavender soaps myself. Not going to do one at the moment...but it's a good idea down the road. thanks for posting!

It's a really nice, assertive, but fresh and light Jasmine scent! I love it. I hope you do too.

The Jasmine is definitely on my list. We have a big jasmine bush next to our driveway and I like smelling that everyone morning while climbing in my truck.

I did a quick two pass shave tonight to reset my beard for evening shaves for the weeklong lavender excursion.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red
Razor: Karve Brass OC B plate
Blade: Gillette Nacet (1)
Brush: PAA Star Craft
Soap: Mystic Water Bay Rum
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Captain's Choice Venture (first use)
Talc: Borotalco

I want my lavender shaves to be at night because lavender is a nighttime scent to me. More on my relationship with lavender tomorrow.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

My week of lavender begins!

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap

Brush: Omega Pro 48
Cream: TOBS Lavender
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Cella
Talc: Borotalco
Fragrance: Eternity

When I lived in Baltimore, I had water that would only lather creams without arduous effort, so I pretty much used TOBS creams, mainly grapefruit. I have great lathering water where I live now, so I mainly use a wide variety of soaps, but I decided to start off my lavender week with TOBS. It has a very nice lavender scent, more of a French than Bulgarian profile, not as sharp as Bulgarian lavender, but it's plenty assertive. I could fully enjoy the lavender throughout the four passes. TOBS is plenty slick, and while it doesn't leave my face feeling as soft as a superfatted soap, it's a very comfortable post shave feel and not at all drying like Arko. It's a great lavender cream, and I'm happy to have it in my collection. Tomorrow, it's Kiss My Face!!

I wanted to add a bit of personal History to my Lavender journey. I use lavender essential oil as an aromatherapy agent, both by itself and in conjunction with Roman chamomile essential oils. I currently have two varieties of lavender EO, Bulgarian and Provence. The Bulgarian is a sharper, more pungent scent. And is much sharper than a spoonful of blossoms in hot water. I find it effective as a calming and sleep aiding agent. My single strongest lavender memory is from a visit to a lavender farm on Maui, which I visited 4 years ago. There, I walked through fields of lavender, had lavender tea, and lavender scones. It was an immersive experience that I'll never forget. This week, I'll be using the following products:

TOBS Lavender cream
Kiss My Face Lavender and Shea Butter
Art of Shaving Lavender Cream
Mystic Water Jeff's Lavender
PAA Lavender Planet
Stirling Bergamot Lavender

It's a modest collection, but it should make for an enjoyable week! I'm not doing ratings, but I might choose a favorite. As the week progresses, I should be able to make some comparisons. We'll see how it goes.

As you were writing I was thinking “Where was that place that we...that’s it!”

Well if nothing else you’ll smell very pretty this week.

Yep, of course, since I'm stuck at home, only myself and my mother will enjoy it! We're both pretty high risk, so even though things are opening up here in TN ( and the infection rate is rising) were staying put as much as possible. Shaving is pretty much the high point of every day right now, so I'm going to really luxuriate in my products!

Day 2 of my lavender week wasn't overwhelming or underwhelming. I guess it was just... whelming.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (3)
Brush: Omega Pro 48 boar
Cream: Kiss My Face Moisture Shave Lavender and Shea
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Grand Bay Bay Rum
Talc: Borotalco
Fragrance: Cool Water Caribbean Summer

Kiss My Face (KMF) is a brand I first encountered back when I was following the Grateful Dead around the Eastern US one Summer, selling hot dogs and falafel balls to pay for gas and food. The specific product was an olive oil bar soap that I bought in the same health food store where I got my patchouli oil and bulk falafel. It was in Annapolis, MD where I went to school, and this was an old school health food store from a time way before Whole Foods. I can still smell that place in my mind. Anyway, decades later I was surprised to see they had a moisture shaving product, and it was pretty well reviewed by Mantic59, so I picked up a bottle. It is very reasonably priced, and it's ingredients are all natural (the list is long - there are myriad herbal and flower extracts, probably in very minute portions). It does a good job. Four pumps gives more than enough lather for my four passes. It's slick, although the residual slickness isn't great - and there's not really much of a post shave face feel. It rinses clean. As to the lavender, it's supplied by an essential oil, but I would categorize it as lightly scented - not as strong as TOBS, and lacking in sharpness. On the face, I just got hints of lavender and no retained scent after rinsing. It's vegan, so if that's important, there's that going for it. All in all, it's worth the $8 a pump bottle costs, but if you're a lavender fan, there are other, more impressive, better performing soaps. I got a BBS with no irritation. It was an enjoyable shave, but the soap was very good, not great. I haven't developed for myself a tier system for soaps, but KMF wouldn't be elite or tier 1, that much I feel safe saying. I finished off with a splash of Grand Bay Bay Rum, my first use of it. It's nice, but pretty ephemeral. It pretty much vanished as it dried. Borotalco was applied, this time in an appropriately sparing amount. I'm getting the hang of it, and am really enjoying this new addition to my routine. Tomorrow, it's PAA Lavender Planet. I'm excited!

Hot dogs & falafel... Mystery meat in tube form and something made with ground up chickpeas & fava beans... Wouldn't wanna be in that crowd!

I've used the KMF stuff in the distant past.. I agree, it gets the job done but nothing special..

Today's shave was with Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements' Lavender Planet. Now, we're talking.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Platinum (1)
Brush: Omega Pro 48 boar
Soap: PAA Lavender Planet
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
Talc: Borotalco
After-Shave: Pinaud Clubman Tequila Tease
Fragrance: Joop!

My third lavender selection is by far the most assertive lavender product I've used. Where TOBS has a solid essential oil aroma, and KMF was lightly scented, Lavender Planet celebrates lavender, and it hits you the moment you open the tub. PAA touts three sources of fragrance for this soap. Two different essential oils and an absolute. This diversity of sources may contribute to the superior freshness of the aroma of Lavender Planet - there's a small bit of green, if that makes sense. The CK base loads quickly, and the performance is top notch. Very slick, lots of residual slickness, and it left my face supple and hydrated. I really can't say enough about the lavender in this soap. It is prominent even from the lather on the face. It's perfect for shaving before bed, when I like to immerse myself in lavender to help fight insomnia. Lavender Planet makes for a wonderful lavender experience. If you want lavender in your soap, this is a great place to go. The shave was a four pass BBS, with the slightest bit of irritation on my throat, which I think is from the new blade and too much pressure. Tomorrow, Mystic Water Jeff's Lavender!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!
