Not quite Music City USA

I stuck with Jeff's Lavender again today.

Prep: Hot shower, Stirling Charcoal Facial Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red
Brush: Simpson Berkeley 46 Best Badger
Soap: Mystic Water Jeff's Lavender
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Pinaud Clubman Osage Rub

Not too much to tell today. I tried a Personna Israeli Red today, and it was great. I nicked myself right up under my nose. My fault for carelessness. I'm loving Jeff's Lavender, and may just do my own little lavender shootout. I slathered Osage Rub all over my BBS face and upper body and I'm revelling in the menthol goodness. And I tried out CK One for the fragrance. It arrived in the mail today. Grey Flannel gets here Friday.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

Mystic Water Jasmine is such a wonderful soap. The Jasmine is so up front, and yet it is not cloying at all.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (2)
Brush: West Coast Shaving Silvertip Badger
Soap: Mystic Water Jasmine
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Ethos Pineapple Noir

I used the WCS Silvertip brush tonight, and it really is right up my alley. Very soft on the face, but not limp. It whipped up a great lather with the Mystic Water in no time, and a 20 second load made more than enough for four passes. The soap leaves my face feeling so hydrated and supple, I almost didn't use alum or AS. But I had a sample of Ethos Pineapple Noir, which is very nice. I got a BBS shave with no irritation, and yesterday's Nick under my nose is almost completely healed up.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

Today I joined the talc club, and learned that it doesn't take much. A little goes a long way!

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Foaming Face Cleanser, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Personna Israeli Red (3)
Brush: Omega Pro 48
Soap: Mystic Water Adirondack Jack (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse, Borotalco Talcum Powder
After-Shave: Speick aftershave
Fragrance: Grey Flannel

Another first use of a Mystic Water soap. Adirondack Jack is lightly scented, and I like the scent. I can't really place any notes or say what it smells like, but it's nice and fresh. Not as strong as the Jasmine or the lavender. Performance was excellent as usual with her soaps. I got a nice, relaxing, four pass BBS with no irritation. I used the alum, and rinsed my brush, rinsed my face, dried it, applied the Speick and let it dry down. Then I put what turned out to be too much powder to the new powder brush. I started brushing the talc on my face and disappeared into a powdery cloud. I used way more than I needed! It went everywhere! So talc will require a lighter touch, and another wipe down of my surfaces. I really like the feel of it though, so I'm going to keep it as a part of my post shave routine. Thanks to @BarberDave for the inspiration!

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

It's a really nice, assertive, but fresh and light Jasmine scent! I love it. I hope you do too.

A fantastic shave today:

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (1)
Brush: PAA Atomic Rocket
Soap: Mystic Water Brown Windsor (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Florida Water, Borotalco
Fragrance: Grey Flannel

So my Captain's Choice shipment finally arrived - a very nice copper bowl and a bottle of Venture. The Captain is the only AS vendor for which I'm a completist. I have them all, and love them all. I have a half bottle of North that I'm saving for special occasions during cold weather. I'm always on the lookout for more. I love the bowl, and will be breaking it in next week as I'm going to do a shootout of my 6 lavender soaps next week. I just got a tub of AoS lavender cream, so I figured, why not do a comparison of the lavender products I own just for kicks.

Today I tried out a new soap - Mystic Water Brown Windsor, which is supposedly a classic scent popular with Napoleon and Lewis and Clark. It's definitely an interesting scent. It immediately reminded me of Florida Water, which is what I chose for my AS today. The Mystic Water is nice and assertive, but didn't overwhelm me with aroma. And I think it went very well with the Florida Water. Today I used an appropriate amount of Borotalco, and wasn't consumed in a cloud of powder, so that's nice. After everything dried down nicely, I applied some Grey Flannel, which I'm loving in its current formulation. It's not nearly as pungent as I remember from 30 years ago. I used a Feather in the Diamondback, and it was smooth and sharp. I have all these vintage razors sitting there, and a few new SS razors, and the brass Karve, but I keep reaching for the Diamondback. It's just so consistently superb, I just hate to go with something else. I may have to sell off some razors and get more fragrances or even soaps. We'll see. I'm in no hurry to start divesting. It took years to assemble my small collection. There's no hurry. I hate that I'll have to pass on the group buy of the beautiful SV brush! It's really beautiful, but I can't assemble the funds right now, and I've spent a fair amount on brushes this year, so I'll have to pass. It looks great though! Congratulations to all the group buyers!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

Scott is a great support/vendor to the shave community! Good stuff.

Bummer you have to miss out on the brush buy. It’s going to be a big stretch for me too, but hoping to make it work. This year has been pretty landmark for big purchases. Judging by the look in the eye of SWMBO, I think this may be my last for the rest of it.😅

It should worth it !!!

It occurred to me that lately I've been spending an hour a day watching member shave videos. Definitely a privilege of quarantine! Also, I've noticed several members refer to a "tiered" classification system for soaps. "Elite" seems to be the top, followed by Tier 1, 2, all the way down to "turd." Is this a formalized system, or is it sort of a casual system for convenience sake? Personally, I have some soaps I prefer, but I haven't really classified them... yet. I'm going to do a week with my different lavender soaps and creams this next week, and I do plan on picking a winner, but I don't really have a formalized scoring system. Perhaps I need to get my act together in this regard.

Yea, totally made up system for quantification. It helps, in a limited manner, for someone who is unacquainted with a certain soap and wants an idea about it’s general qualities.

Sunday morning special shave.

Prep: Hot Shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Green Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (2)
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
Soap: Ethos/CBL Lime
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Ethos/CBL Lime Skin Food Splash
And of course, a bit too much Borotalco!

This morning I inaugurated my new Captain's Choice Copper Lather Bowl, using the Chubby 2 to whip up a nice bowl of yogurty Ethos/CBL lime lather. They really nailed the essence of fresh lime with this soap, and I got to enjoy that scent throughout the four leisurely passes that resulted in a BBS, irritation-free result. I hit the talc a bit too hard again. It really doesn't take much at all. This 17oz bottle of Borotalco is going to last a long time!

This week I'm going to switch things up a bit. I have 6 different lavender soaps and creams, and I'm going to use them all this week and make some comparative notes here. I'm also going to switch out razors and go with a NEW Short Comb, and a Gillette Silver Blue blade. I'll be using my trusty Omega Pro 48 boar, and I'll bowl lather everything. Anyway, that's the plan.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!
