Hello everyone! Hope you had a pleasant evening.
Going with a couple of Rod Stewart for your Thursday. Hope you enjoy.
Excellent shave this morning. New soap/splash/razor day with the arrival of "Atomic Peach" soap and splash along with the "straight" razor from The Hoy Black. So first, the soap / splash. The excellent quality of the lather is a given from PAA, but the scent is phenomenal! Bay Rum + peach may sound like a strange combination but, like bay rum with other fruit scents, this works wonderfully. Great lather built with the Simpson Chubby 2. I was eager to break in the straight so I decided I'd use it for the first WTG pass. I avoid using straights/shavettes on weekday mornings because I shave in the shower and that's not the place to use a filly exposed, literally "razor sharp" hunk of metal. After the first pass, I finished up the shave with the '56 Super Speed followed by alum, Quinn's Pink Grapefruit and Orange Rind witch hazel, the matching aftershave lotion, Pecksniff's "Grapefruit and Citron" talc & Ogallala "Double Strength Bay Rum" EdC.
The "Happy Hogan" Homefront Report: So, a little more on today's shave with the new THB straight... I thought that this thing wouldn't be much different than using my Feather shavette and that maybe I'd go ahead and use it for the XTG pass as well. I found out very quickly that
this mother-lover didn't come to play! Immediately on the first pass I felt it dig into the skin. So yeah, instantaneous realization that this is going to be "interesting".. I stop, back it up, re-check my attack angle and proceed. A couple of more points where it dug in left me bleeding on both cheeks. Nothing bad but enough to let me know that this thing requires total focus when being used. As I said, the rest of the shave passed uneventfully. So, lesson learned.. A blood tribute paid to the Shave Gods for my hubris.
Hope you have a great day.
